Another fun thing to note is that the Flux Raider can take *any* standard sized P320 slides/mags. This includes the .40 cal stuff. Now that in itself may not be all that interesting as .40 is a bit of a niche round, but if you do not care about that you might also want to note that if a gun takes a .40 it also takes a .357 Sig as a drop in barrel replacement. I am not the type of person who cares, so I built a raider in .357 Sig. Now *that* is a PDW. Plus you can still throw a 9mm slide on there if you want to practice for cheaper. .357 Sig is not exactly plinking ammo.

That on-gun spare mag stowage also allows for a VERY fast "load from empty" - have the gun unloaded, spare mag in the stowage, and then that single-button release and rapid transfer of the loaded mag into the grip. (for places that don't consider a loaded magazine stored with the gun as a "loaded" gun)

The maximum length stock really puts the gun into the "same size as a genuine SMG", which seems counterproductive. It looks slightly longer with the stock stowed than the 1990s MP5K-PDW with a side folded stock. The minimum length stock seems the most in line with the design intent of the chassis, although I wonder if reducing the vertical length to about even with the bottom of the grip would compromise its utility as a stock all that much. The medium length is probably a practical compromise. I also wonder if there is an extended slide and barrel combo that comes right to the end of the chassis. Since you can't make the gun any shorter than the frame, might as well use ALL the frame length forward and eke out an extra 50 FPS or so, if you can.
@BenfromFlux
@BenfromFlux 4 күн бұрын
Good thoughts. The 5.5 inch full size threaded barrel is flush with the end of the frame, I have various comp designs that would make the slide aesthetically flush. It’s still very small with the 1.5”, much smaller than SMGs. The 1.5” stock is the most used variant by SOF.
@MrTrilbe
@MrTrilbe 4 күн бұрын
This really does look like "a solution looking for a problem", or "a we could so we did" or more likely "how can we get someones bean counter happy", there's better SMG's, better carbines, and better PDW's for its role, it's good points are you already have a SLA with Sig and you have Sig mags and 9mm, downsides is you have a P320's range, stopping power, and penetration, and I would rather have any one of the things it lacks over all of it's good points be that stay away, stay down, or stay in cover.

@@MrTrilbego ahead name few PDWs in this size class. I could mention B&T's USW A1 and Glock/320 Chassis, TP9/MP9, Micro Uzi, MAC-10. Flux Raider surprisingly is one of the better option. MP5K is just too big. Also if you haven't grasp the concept of PDW, go watch Brass Facts' video about it
@tiredsoldier
@tiredsoldier 4 күн бұрын
Y'all folks comparing it to SMGs and going "So what?" are missing the point. Even at SIG prices, it's still lots of kilobucks less than the entry price for a 40+ year old SMG, not to mention finding parts when something breaks while you're converting dollars to holiness. Start thinking of it as a pistol-caliber carbine which fits in the nightstand drawer and you'll find it's legitimate raison d'être. Which would you rather have when investigating something that went bump in the night: two hands on one of these or one hand on a (pick your favorite 9mm pistol)?
@edwardscott3262

PDWs always suffer from the "Hey that's too cool for the losers who it was designed for." effect. They end up on the tip of the spear where people find out it's still just a slightly easier to shoot pistol. Which shouldn't be shocking but as generations of PDW design has shown. It always is.

While it is not much shorter than a compact SMG in an intermediate caliber but also much more bulky than a pistol, I think there is a good reason behind this PDW: One single gun can be an officer´s sidearm (in pistol config with a normal mag) and a PDW for vehicle/crew/policing uses. Eases maintenance and ammo logistics a lot!
@silphonym

Yes. The pistol to PDW conversion frames all fit this paradigm. This fad exists to sell the military/militaries another breakable doohicky that they'll waste millions on, if we're being honest. It's still a neat fad that's resulting in some interesting products for civvies, but I think this is a stepping stone towards the repopularization of micro-SMGs/machine pistols. Modern materials and ergonomics made possible through new production methods = a perfect combination to make "micro-PDWs" a more feasible concept.
@sbreheny
@sbreheny 3 күн бұрын
It looks like it could be advantageous if the stock had two pieces - the actual butt plate and a cheek weld pad which sits part-way along the rails. You could make it slide into place automatically when the stock is deployed and then slide back up against the buttplate when you push the stock back into the chassis to store it. This would allow the collapsed length to be just as short as if the cheek weld pad were integrated into the buttplate, but still allow a cheek weld further down the rails.

I do have a question: would this be viable with a full auto trigger? Surely since it has a stock (and a compensator in your case), it negates the uncontrollability of a machine pistol while potentially being usefull in tight spaces, where this thing might already see use. Happy Christmas (birthday)when it happens, GunJesus, but how does it shoot un stocked, and as a pistol. The intended market are likely to go for accuracy by volume in the first instance of a contact, and then pop the stock out when its time to manoeuvre of the x. So still needs to be functionable as a pistol with all the strap on fun strapped on

Even if it didn't end up being reliable, this is just cool enough to warrant use. But fortunately it seems to actually be highly functional. I was hoping he'd try out the iron sights as well since there is the little passthrough under the rail.
@MrTribalpanther
@MrTribalpanther 17 сағат бұрын
I found out this existed when a buddy of mine showed up to the range with one a couple weeks ago. No optics, so that's how we shot it, iron sights from the pass through. Works great, but you really have to get your head down to look under it, so it's not the most comfortable. Still a fun toy, though.

In the other video didn't Ian say there's only a trigger safety? I thought he said the stock blocks the manual safety. And you have to rack the slide from the front. Is it safe to carry chambered? A cocking handle adds weight and size but might save a pinky finger or two lol

Needs a slightly longer barrel & slide or a shorter frame. I'dve thought that the brace would work fine as a stock especially for a lefty. As you sbr'd it anyway you'd still be legal.

If that last one had a cheeck weld (maybe on top) that you could slide forward once the brace is extended, that would be great.

Thanks Ian. I enjoyed the video. But you also pointed out the convolutions we have to go through in the US to use a really functional rifle or pistol caliber carbine because some idiots decided they were "evil" short, barreled weapons is really beyond silly. I'd love to have some pistol caliber carbines in proper configurations, not in 16-inch barrels that make them impractical to carry.

The carbine module for a pistol is a concept I don't really get. If you plan to SBR the chasis, why not just buy a ready made pistol carbine? It will give you greater barrel length improving acuracy and velocity. This to me is like putting giant rear tires on a car and calling it a dragster.

It looks like an interesting system, but I need to see how it works in a holster with a spare magazine in the holder. I feel like if you get to the point that you can't easily carry it holstered, if you're wearing it slung, you might as well go to a compact PCC like the CMMG Banshee.

We’ve done a fair bit of scaling the last few months to the point where if you want one, they are readily available most weeks after a restock. We’ve also made sure to always prioritize customer sales. We’ve barred many influencers and employees from getting units in the past until they are readily available or at least more available than every 6 months.

This would be a ideal fit for a micro prism sight. That way you get some magnification, a BDC reticle, and a etched reticle in case the battery runs out. And micro prisms is compact enough to fit on the short top rail. Eye relief will not be a problem because the rail is really close to your face anyway.
