Insane good or insane bad? In BC, my power is 11¢/kWh + 22.5¢ per day as a basic charge. 3100 sq ft older home with basic needs. Electricity runs a pump and 3 solenoids for our natural gas boiler with hydronic heat, but other than that, I don't use electricity for heat. 2 fridges, stove, dishwasher, washer, dryer are all electric. One 60" plasma TV, 1 projector, lots of audio gear, 3 amplifiers, 11.1 surround, 2 PVRs, 2 laptops, 2 phones, kitchen appliances, 2 electric mattress pads, general lights (all LED), 1 small heated tile floor in the main bath. Last month (Oct 2024) 2 people consumed 470 kWhs. Our bill is was $50.69. There is tax included but also a few government monthly rebates involved. It's cheap, IMO.

We just had a blackout during a huge storm that just passed by. No matter the weather what does every good ole American household require first thing in the morning . . . . . . ? Coffee! And without electricity it ain't happening. So I pulled my Kill a watt after the storm and measured the electrical usage of our coffee maker which allowed me to buy a simple Ryobi 150 watt power source @ $39.00. The Kill-a-Watt helped me choose the power source that will bring hot coffee to the kitchen table no matter the weather. PS - I've had this Kilowatt device for over 10 years and when I pushed it into the outlet the legs for the liquid crystal readout was missing. I got the legs to all work just by pressing the device extra hard into the outlet and the display revealed all the legs on the display from the poor electrical connection. So removal requires you to hold onto the back half of the device as demonstrated in this video so you won't inadvertently separate the connections to the legs of the display like I did.

150 Watt coffee only? Usually, the power requirement is more since it uses heating elements.
@breeze787Ай бұрын
@@BeatTheBushDIY I had to get a new kilowatt meter to verify that you're right a coffee maker can consume up to 1400 watts. Mine sucks up 1150 watts so that 150 watter wouldn't a worked. Thanks for the pushback.

Will these units provide both surge and running watts for a refrigerator when the electricity is provided by a generator? Thanks, Dan
@BeatTheBushDIY3 ай бұрын
I haven't seen many with surge capabilities. I do have a clamp meter to do surge but that's 20x more expensive.
@dananderson98363 ай бұрын
@@BeatTheBushDIY Greatly appreciate your response.
@OMGWTFLOLSMHАй бұрын
You can simply watch the meter when your compressor starts up to see the surge.

People should also look closer at their bills and note that this meter gives you the base cost but your bill is also full of fee's that are also calculated using your total kWh for that billing period... example my last bill was $92 based on usage but another $82 in what I'm summarizing as "fee's" but you can see it on your own bill... in my case that's an additional 89% of the usage! When using a watt meter like this, if I calculated my cost to run something will be say $4.00/mo? It's really going to be more like $7.56/mo after all those "fee's" on your bill are factored in... hope that helps someone else plan / save some skrilla!
@uploadJ11 ай бұрын
Ya - a usage meter, not a 'fee' meter! Heh.
@OMGWTFLOLSMHАй бұрын
Take your monthly bill and divide it by kWhs used to figure out the true cost per kWh. Yes, the actual energy used is only one part of the bill.

do you know diff. between P4460 and P 4460.01. also do you know what EZ stands for
@OMGWTFLOLSMHАй бұрын
EZ stands for easy. It makes it easy to calculate the cost of any appliance and easy to keep track of it because it holds the data in memory until reset. You can unplug it and not lose your data.

Do you recommend the Kill-a-watt over cheaper/more basic watt meters?

Honestly, I cannot say just yet. I will be comparing a cheaper one to this one soon.

I saw a few cheap ones started to burn, scorch, melt on the cheaper ones. I’d say pay an extra $20 for this brand.

I have the killa watt Flex p3, However I unplug it and nothing resets. There is no Reset Button on it. I unplugged it and went to bed. woke up plugged it in, and still had the same usage hours and "$ Money Spent" How can I reset this? I also Held Down Every Button, Quick Unplug and Plug back in, and it keeps just Adding to the calculations before. ( i got this 12/10/23) so you got a new one because old one would retain memory?

No such thing as a space heater that runs on electricity. They are the heater equivalent of a jet engine.
