Thank you so much! I couldn't find any videos of Form 7233-4. Life saver ! Btw, Im studying on the knowledge test and Im sure you need to do two flight plans if doing partially VFR and IFR ? Question from 1:46
@theacslibrary44043 жыл бұрын
Hey William! That’s a great question. You may still file just one flight plan in this case! If beginning VFR and later going IFR, you would put a Z in Section 8. If beginning IFR and transitioning to VFR later, you would put a Y in Section 8. When you take off VFR and plan to go IFR later (Z), report your departure time to the FSS you filed with. When you reach the point in your flight that you plan to go IFR, contact the FSS and request cancellation of the VFR flight plan and clearance to continue IFR for the remainder of the flight. When departing IFR and going VFR later (Y), the departure procedure won’t feel different. Get your clearance and that whole C-R-A-F-T list jotted down and everything. You’ll normally be cleared to the point at which you plan to change to VFR. Depart as you normally would, and when you get to that VFR point, if it is actually VFR, cancel the IFR flight plan and contact the FSS to activate the VFR portion. If you’re getting near that point and you notice that conditions are still IFR, that’s no problem. Alert ATC at least 5 minutes prior to getting there that you’d like to continue IFR. If/when the weather clears up, you can cancel the IFR flight plan and contact the nearest FSS to activate the VFR portion. I hope this helps! Let me know if any of that info is unclear!

When is the changeover date? Or did it occur already? Getting back into filing - thanks.

Hey Mike! Sorry for letting this comment slip through the cracks. It looks like the changeover date has already occurred. The international flight plan form, Form 7233-4, is to be used for filing now, unless it’s a civilian stereo route flight or a particular type of DOD flight. Here it is directly from the FAA below. Use of the international format flight plan format is mandatory for: Any flight plan filed through a FSS or FAA contracted flight plan filing service; with the exception of Department of Defense flight plans and civilian stereo route flight plans, which can still be filed using the format prescribed in FAA Form 7233-1. I’m getting this info from… www.faa.gov/air_traffic/publications/atpubs/fs_html/appendix_b.html

Oh man that sounds daunting haha. I’d love to hear how it goes getting that approved and also flying through it. Don’t forget, 7777 and rock your wings if the F16’s show up!😂
