My state (and the neighbor state) eliminated inspections about 25 years ago and there has never been an uptick of unsafe vehicles. The only ones that were hurt were crooked or unscrupulous auto repair shops who demanded expensive repairs in order to get a sticker.

if you cant hear or feel a bad wheel bearing or a bad brakes then you have bigger problems. I keep my cars and a few buddy's cars in tip top then you go to a shop and they try and tell you you need brakes and drums in the rear when they got less then 1k miles on both and it needed inner and outer tie rods when I had checked it the week before it when for its inspection to make sure it didn't need any thing and I at the time had a PA inspection lic just didn't work at a shop the rear shoes was 8/32 bonded Callahan ceramic thank god we live in a small town we started spreading to double check anything they say is bad it didn't take to long for a lot of people to find they was being ripped off they went out of biz a few yrs later but how many got ripped off before they got busted and how many more do the same thing.. garages will make money without inspection and be just as busy just like every state that has none is and studys show it makes the roads no safer. we save 30 and tey get 15 more to help fix these crap roads

I'm very tired of being extorted, I do all the maintenance and repairs on my vehicles I take care of my vehicles meticulously and those who insist upon paying for this BULLSHIT should also have no problem paying to have my vehicles inspected as well !

I have always thought they didn't need inspection stickers. Play I might have taped doors in that on back in her day but I have never seen that know people still would make sure their vehicles are safe for their families such. The garages don't want to lose that money.

Pennsylvania can fail a car if the headlight candle power is insufficient or over the amount that’s in the inspection manual I believe. That state should change the name to taxalvania also . Pennsylvania also classifies electric scooters like Segway as motorcycles under vehicle code. They are legal. I believe this is the only state that does that.

It is pretty foolish to have our vehicles inspected every year, to ensure that our vehicles are fit for our roads. When our roads are not fit for out vehicles.

"2 / $300 repair if you catch it in time" ...lol. There are really no $200/$300 repairs. Rotors and a synthetic oil change alone just cost me $350. Being from Ohio, over the last decade, this is the second biggest scam I have seen for PA residents next to the rapid turnpike increases. 5 straight years it was like $1,000, $1100, $700, $900, $600 for my other half to pass inspection. The stuff they would come up with IMO was suspect. She finally gave up and went the leasing route. With that being said there are some buckets of junk on the road in Ohio. Tweak the system to where new cars don't need an inspection for the first 3/36. Used cars every 2 years with a grading system where shops have updated guidelines they have to follow for non urgent repairs that get recorded, but do not cause a failure to pass inspection. The right to a second opinion cancelling out a previous estimate although that may have already been allowed. A buffer period to continue to drive a vehicle if a repair is too expensive while the person saves up for it. Lots of tweaks can be made.
