Why is Abraham Shakespeare on this list? He was targeted and killed by a predator who wanted his money. I read a story about him years ago that described him as kind, giving, and maybe a little developmentally challenged. He felt overwhelmed after winning the lottery, and THAT is why he turned to that con artist who eventually took his life. Abraham appeared to be a kind soul living in a sea of sharks, and his story is heartbreaking. Just by how his story is presented alone, I can tell due diligence was not implemented here. Furthermore, crapping on someone who decided to live an honest life as a truck driver is utterly distasteful. I have an advanced degree in biomedicine, and I am also a physician in training. During my first two years of medical school, a CLEANING LADY ended up being someone I leaned on when I felt stressed. What if I had an attitude that as a future physician, I shouldn't waste my time listening to janitors? I would have missed out on getting to know a wonderful person. Simply because people don't have accomplishments that our society deems noteworthy, that does not mean that they cannot teach us anything of value.

Thank you for speaking up!! How dare this guy disparage someone who I have only ever heard described as caring good person! What happened to him was a tragedy that he couldn’t have seen coming. As far as him talking down on truck drivers ect….My favorite story is of a college professor who gave his class a final with one question worth 50% of their grade….”What is the Janitor’s name?” Only a few passed. My grandpa was a research physicist and I never once heard him talk down to anyone. Iam lucky to have had that influence in my life and I have talked to and met some amazing individuals!❤️

never forget the gov can withhold your monthly payments if it's not in the budget to pay you. take the lump some.
@reggierodriguez65467 жыл бұрын
You don't get your entire lottery winning if you choose to receive the one lump sum. I rather have a recurring cash flow for the next 30 years or so than the one lump sum where I can end up dwindling the cash and end up broke. Next instead of spending, I would invest my money into business that'll create cash flow for me. This way I'll never go broke. Third. I wouldn't advertise myself than I'm a rich guy. If I win the lottery, I would decline to be on tv
@evraljones98627 жыл бұрын
Reggie Rodriguez the problem is, every single person on this earth that is poor(meaning, your making less than 6 figures a year) will say exactly that. Then they come in contact with 30 mil. All of a sudden, your life is no longer your life, those good intentions of starting a business dont happen. You don't hire an financial advisor because, you "can count money". You splurge on family and friends. Anything you've ever wanted you'll buy. It's not until people are neatly broke again do those ideas surface. I'm not saying you in particular will do all these things, but trust me, starting a business off the bat is not one of the first things you'll be doing.
@pHoTyPHoToN7 жыл бұрын
Evral Jones I just wouldn't touch it period. Why does anything have to change because you get a lump of money? I'd rather have a fat ass bank account. Put enough for retirement away so it didn't really matter what I did along the way
@richellepina16 жыл бұрын
Enter User Name Here. I would take the lump sum as well for a couple reasons. 1. If the economy in the United States crashed and we went into a depression it could effect those payments if the lottery had to claim bankruptcy. It is highly unlikely but not worth the risk. 2. If you take the lump sum you would make at least 2.5% in a money market with no risk at all. If you won 20 million with a lump sum and taxes already taken out. By putting half 10 million into a money market every year you would earn $250,000.00 enough to retire comfortably with steady cash flow coming In. The other 10 million I would diversify a portfolio, spending 4 million on precious metals gold, silver ect. Take 3 million and find a good fiduciary and have him invest that 3 million. I would take 1 million and invest in high risk high reward stocks. With the last 2 million I would help my immediate family and find at least 5 people who are trying as hard as they can to better their life and I would Change their life forever. 3. If I died 2 years from now I would not want to take the risk of that money not going to my family.

I just finished reading the affidavit concerning the case of Abraham Shakespear before seeing this video. Talk about a Shakespearian tragedy! I somehow knew he would be on this list. He belongs. He was a generous guy, who was taken advantage of that's true. However he WAS dumb, he was "functionally" illiterate as well. It took her (Dee Dee Moore) only 4-5 months to gain control of over 5 million dollars of his wealth, including the 1.2 mil home he purchased. In addition to the LLC that he allowed her to set up and control on his behalf, he signed a power of attorney giving another female "friend" that he knew who was also working with Dee Dee on the scam. "A fool and his money shall soon be parted".
@koolhandduke40877 жыл бұрын
Phillip Calloway--I get what you're saying. And that could be true when a lot of money and too little brains are at issue. But Dee Dee Moore was neither family or friend. Neither was the lawyer she and Abraham shared (who was also in on the scam). So much so, she even accused him of killing Abraham. But she would accuse anybody, including her 14yo son.

Re: Abraham Shakespeare, aside from the cringy disrespectfulness of the dead, the narrator clown makes it sound as if a multimillionaire buying a $1M house is "stupid". A house is an investment in most cases, so it's rather "dumb" to suggest otherwise. Even if he had bought a $5M house, one could easily argue that would've been a smart decision given the fact that it's a liquid asset with growth potential. Folks invest in real estate as a living.

I live pretty close to where Shakespeare lived and I remember reading all about him in the local news. The story was tragic but it was also pretty ironic, especially in the way DeeDee gave herself away in her attempt to cover up the crime. The most ironic part is that Shakespeare was illiterate and his illiteracy was one of the factors that led to DeeDee getting caught. She sent text messages to his family members from his phone pretending to be him and telling them he is fine and is just travelling abroad, but they knew Shakespeare could not write and realized it wasn't him. DeeDee is one twisted bitch but at least she was caught and brought to justice. She actually went insane in prison, if she wasn't insane to begin with, and there is a prison documentary featuring her so you can see for yourself if you find it.

Just for the record here. Almost every study done and expert asked says that taking the lump sum is the better option to take when winning the lottery. Annuities cant compare to the possibilities of investment with a lump sum win. Annuities are nontransferable and designed to be more stable but ultimately have a payout less than the lump sum. Hiring a good accountant/money manager and being wise with a lump sum will be far more productive and lucrative than a annuity payment. At the very least when you take the lump sum and then die, that money is included as part of your assets. Or, take the annuity and make sure nothing happens to you, or the country, or the lottery system for at least the next 30 years.

You always take the lump sum payout. Always. You can't pass lottery annuity payments on if you pass away either.
@PablitosWay8 жыл бұрын
+Ryan Koehler The only disadvantage is if the winner dies, their heirs have to pay estate taxes. But. Again. Annuity > Lump sum. Easily. True. IF you are a finance professional who has a track record of making the right investments, then yes, taking the lump sum allows you to take your future into your hands. BUT. Most hedge fund managers can't even beat the S&P 500 and they're professionals who take a hefty fee! 😂😂😂 You're expecting some random financial manager to make investments to beat T-bond rates that's essentially presented to the winner? And that's assuming the winner decides to hire one. Too much risk. Factor in the horrific decisions the winners typically make and the ability to protect themselves from themselves, it's a no brainer to take the annuity.
@apexmike8498 жыл бұрын
You take it only if you really do know what is in store and exactly what to do next. As most people have no experience with finance, it is unlikely to end well. At least, with annuity, one can behave like a jerk without losing it all at once. Of course, that doesn't protect you from drink, drugs, gambling and fast cars, etc, which are all very easy ways to die. But people don't want to learn boring stuff, they wanna party, right? RIP.
@BoomerKeith18 жыл бұрын
The first thing any lottery winner should do is make 3 phone calls: 1. Hire a good Attorney. 2. Hire a good Accountant. 3. Hire a good Financial Advisor. Those three calls will take care of any finance/estate planning. When you suddenly come in to a windfall of money, you need to get help, otherwise you're asking for trouble. The annuity payout is moronic. The lump sum is ALWAYS the right option. Hell, you could stick half of it in secure investments (like bonds) and still make more than you would by taking the annuity.
@BoomerKeith18 жыл бұрын
+Pablito's Way - If you are a lottery winner and don't hire professionals to account for and manage your funds, then you're a moron (I'm not saying you Pablito, I'm saying that in general). There are many ways to negate estate taxes for the heirs if things are set up correctly. And there's no reason to invest in equity, a simple bond ladder would still beat the hell out of the annuity rate of return. The problem is that there are some dumb people that win the lottery and make dumb decisions.

I would most definitely take the cash payout. Sure it's a lot less money, but it's also a whole lot more money than you will ever have, and at least you actually have the money, instead of worrying if you're ever going to get the rest of it in the first place. You can't trust anyone. I would even split the money and put it into two different financial institutions. Then I would "hide" from the crowd, and live modestly for a year and adjust to being rich, and watch to see what happens around you. Also realize that people you have associated with will turn evil on you. Getting a whole lot of money, isn't a "fun" thing. It's serious business.

Funny enough the narrator preaches about taking the annuity payment. The problem isn’t that because the lump sum IF INVESTED CORRECTLY is worth far more over the annuity value and ensures you money for the rest of your life vs a fixed amount of years. Interest is a beautiful thing if used correctly

Most of the time, the lump sum is the smarter choice. Recurring payments may stop if you die and your family and children aren't entitled to it, so it's not paid out. Not to mention, you can put all of your money where you want and never have to deal with temptation of borrowing against your "next" payment, due to an unsound financial decision. Invest and hire a reputable accountant and WATCH YOUR MONEY. Lump sums ensure you get what's owed to you.
