Pablo Escobar was also using a small island between Florida and the Caribbean’s islands as a satellite base to smuggle drugs into the US. After his arrest, The Walt Disney Company rented it out from the Caribbean government for 100 years (till 2099) and now it’s called “Castaway Cay” and Disney Cruise Line brings its guests there to enjoy the beach. It still shows the original runway for Pablos airplanes.

@@21Halfmexi Manatees are thriving? Since when? Last I heard these magnificent, slow-moving, migratory mammals were basically extinct as a species; the ones we have left in the wild in Florida live in an unsustainable community. Think of what things were like in paradise before mankind destroyed Florida! Large herds of manatees filled the warmer water bays and inlets of Florida’s Gulf Coast in winter. These days a manatee sighting is rare outside of their known areas of congregation. I saw a manatee once in the 70’s in a canal in Miami. The only other time I have seen a manatee it was trapped in a tank at SeaWorld. 😭

It seems obvious to me that there isn't a real will to get rid of them! Come on! It's not that difficult to eradicate them! An efficient and simple way to get rid of them in a matter of a few months at worst would be to use a dozen of motorboats equipped with machine guns and scanning sonar, then aligned the boats into a straight line from one shore to the another shore, spaced a dozen of yard apart, and methodically scan the river while moving upstream or downstream. The only issue I can see with this method is the opposition from animal rights activists because it would be an efficient but also a very messy, gory mess!

Interestingly, this is precisely how people die! They do seem harmless and less aggressive than a lion or a crocodile, and this emboldens people around them. The hippo scared by children in the video is certainly an infant. Trying to do that with an adult that can behead an fully-grown lioness with a single bite would probably cause the first casualties in S.A.

@@talesle_roi7991 okay first of all a lot of that stuff is headcanon but it is very good advice to stay safe. Secondly, we do not know the certain ratio of Nature : nurture that causes their aggression. So far they have been some of the most docile large animals within captivity and without predators that shapes a good portion of their aggression. These ones are also not threatened by poaching and habitat loss.

Here's a hypothesis. In Africa they have predators so they have to be more territorial and aggressive. In South America they don't have predators and roam freely so that might explain their docile nature which is very odd. Fascinating animals.
