Pablo Picasso's Blue and Rose Period | Behind the Masterpiece

Pablo Picasso is unquestionably one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. For nearly 80 of his 91 years, Picasso devoted himself to creating over 50,000 works of art. He founded and led many artistic movements, two of the most prominent being his Blue and Rose periods. Earlier on in his career, he was faced with financial, and emotional tragedies and it was these struggles that he channeled into his Blue and Rose period.

I hope you do more videos on Picasso's work! The Blue and Rose period covered his earlier pieces, but I would love to see a video on his later artwork such as the Crystal period (1909ish? to 1919). When I go to a museum, I love to listen to an audiobook describing what I'm seeing, the history, etc... Love how similar vibe this video gives. I wish there was maybe a one second longer pause to enjoy the artwork!

No actually the reason his hand was like that wasn’t because he was pointing at the mother it was a Greek hand sign that meant “to move on”

The hand sign can actually be found in a 1525 artwork by Correggio named, Noli me Tangere (Touch me not--in the latin version). At least according to John 20:17 this is what Jesus said to Mary when she saw him after his resurrection. On examining Correggio's painting you can see that Picasso used the exact same hand gesture. But the original Greek phrase can be translated to "cease holding on to me." So if you allow a bit of deductive reasoning, I would bet holy apples to hell that Correggio's work is what influenced Picasso.

Picasso was, and is, overrated. He is simply a caricature of what the 20th century imagined an artist should look like. But I suppose every generation imposes fame on those who do not deserve the attention. Looking at you Kardashian’s.
