Sometimes you can not find the right tool you need, so you have to make it. Here I make some mini gouges using tempered steel rod. I prefer to make cold work instead of using power tools. This way I am sure I do not loose any hardness. I decided to include the handle making process (padauk wood) and how I carve some details on a treble viol's peghead. You can make different shapes using rod, platen or tube. The hot gun glue provides very desireable non-slippery point. If you need to take the steel out, you just have to heaten the lower part without any damage on the edge. This is a very versatile technique. You can make bigger and various tools this way depending on the steel you have. I hope you find it interesting.
