Excellent video. King Pakal was obviously a powerful man. Wow, hopefully we can learn more about Palenque through future excavations. 'Vision Serpent' stele that has an entity coming out of smoke in a bowl with what looks like burning sticks is another favorite of mine.

The Mayan culture fascinates me. I have visited 10-12,sites in the northern half of the Yucatán. They’re all distinctly different, yet have many similarities. Well told story Doctor. Thank you. 🙏

Wow, so July 26 is also considered Mayan New Year as well, is that a coincidence? Btw Congratulations on your 300 episode!!

Thanks for the congratulations. I appreciate every subscriber and every thoughtful comment. To your question, many Maya rulers were enthroned/crowned on the new year day. I think Pacal became king on the first July 26th after his 12th birthday. Too bad we don't know his actual birth date (yet).

Not discounting this important ancient ruler, but I thought Ramses II of Egypt ruled longer than both of them.

Great presentation! You mentioned something about this culture perhaps having contact with Asian culture briefly. How do you all feel about that? I see soooo many similarities in the art and architecture between the Mayan and the cultures of the Indus valley. The more I study both the stronger I feel they are connected. I'm not claiming either way and am certainly no expert. It's just that their art, the way they present things within the art..... It seems one culture is an offshoot from another, in my eyes. Interesting topic either way!

The European explorers and conquerors etc would hate for the Asians to have gotten to America before them.

I did a show about the possible Chinese contact with ancient Mexico. It was an early show, so I apologize for the poor quality. Here is a link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oaCpomakiZifd5o

@Zizzi, Why would they have even cared? I think they knew there were people there before them, at least those who came in the 15th Century (Columbus, etc.)
