That is the Scottish Highland Bagpipe. There are many types of "bagpipe" found all over the world. They are very different in size, tone and volume as well as shape. Some, like these, are blown by mouth but others are blown by bellows under the other arm. These bagpipes were made "famous" by the Scottish Regiments in the British Army during colonial times (perhaps infamous) but are now played around the world as a legacy to those who freely gave of their time and talents to teach the instrument

@IC2720 that is true - however, the title of the tune is Canon. Perhaps if you sing along you could be the second voice? The Simon Fraser University pipe Band have done it properly - I don't have the technical know how or software to enable multiple tracks, sorry!!

I learned to play in Johannesburg, South Africa and have been able to play all over from Bangkok and Jakarta to Johannesburg, London, Glasgow, Dublin and the USA and Canada. The tune is BIG too, a classical piece which tests the bagpipes limited scale!! Thanks for asking.

Thanks for the input. It's true that the pipes cannot play in D, well, the GHB can't but other pipes can. I don't know what the fascination is with playing non-bagpipe tunes on the pipes here in North America but it sure is there because this is by FAR my most popular tune. The other obvious shortcoming of the GHB is it's restricted scale of one octave so one is continually transposing and this can sound, frankly, crap! I put it up to see responses and they have been fairly positive-so far....

@agricolae101 Yes, you are right. I intentionally made it slow as I did not want to hit a flat spin when I reached the final part. Obviously sounds MUCH better with harmonies and counter melodies etc. It has shocked me in its popularity, though, Definitely NOT a piping tune, in my opinion, but obviously much sought after for some reason!!

Dave, searched everywhere and your version of the Canon in D strikes me as being one of the better ones for weddings with a solo piper. I've found 2 other bagpipe versions of this tune but they are designed with 4 to 6 pipers. Would it be possible to obtain a copy of your score as you played it in your video?? My son is getting married June 2017 and his fiance wants this played for the occasion. Or maybe you could let me know where to find a copy!!
