Hi Rocket, maybe Bobcat! I know you don’t want to be looking at poop 😆 but usually if there’s prints, there is scat. That can tell you if it’s a wolf, Fox or cat, very hairy scat! Great videos! Love the sierra and your adventure! Doing great!

Majority of not young hikers I encounter, like myself, actually have one or more chronic injuries. Such things make it more difficult, but it's ironic that with perfect health more often than not people stay in the "one day" category instead of the "day one and more after that" category. Injuries motivate some of us because we know that physical conditions are more likely to decline than improve over time, so we get out and do what we can do. It's not a race, mountains don't care, and the reward is not in proportion to miles. It does have some relation to the number of wilderness days and nights and that can often be achieved regardless of injuries.

Lol been there with the heavy pack climb out of Kearsarge. We were finishing our Sierra miles that we skipped in 2019 and loaded up for a 9 day stretch to Mammoth, and VVR/MTR/Red's Meadow were closed due to Covid still. Also it was probably a bad idea to start that section with only a day of acclimation from sea level, but we made it 😂 these videos are bringing back the best memories for me!

Hi guys- beautiful scenery and mountain passes. I have a house in the woods near Pichot estate in Pike Co Pa, located in the Poconos. Lots of history in the names of the mountains there. Southerners had named some nearby mountains the Alabama Hills. Then northerners named a nearby mine and mountain Kearsarge after the USS Kearsarge which had sunk the CSS Alabama, a Confederate cruiser, off Normandy, France in June 1864.

There is a Pinchot Trail in PA in the old Lackawanna State Forest. It's pretty flat and only 26 miles, but a nice trail to take beginners (great river and waterfall!). I just did it as my first solo trip - was so nervous to do it alone but I did! I think you would like it in the fall, and I know you were interested in taking out groups and guiding (pre-covid). Anyway, thanks for always inspiring me!

There is a gray wolf that has traveled in your area from Oregon. It maybe be him if not the a mountain fox. He is labeled OR-93 from his tracking collar. And thanks for way to donate in your last video. Will send the money to help keep the trail’s going. Just wanted to buy guys a meal while your out. But if making the trails safe and secure is your wish then I will comply. It’s always a pleasure to watch your adventures. Your in areas I could not cover as a veteran. That’s why I follow your segments. Have fun stay safe and healthy. SEMPER FI
@robbrandtBSA2 жыл бұрын
No confirmed wolves in Central or Southern Sierra at this time. OR-93 died in November. The tracks are most likely coyote, they are all over the Sierra. I had the most wonderful serenade by a pack of them at Vermilion Valley last year just past midnight, it was beautiful.

Another very good video. Someone gave a demonstration of the features of those shirts and it was impressive. I see a lot of them on the AT this year. When we met, my wife and I wore matching clothes(Army Uniforms). We lasted almost 39 years until she died from a tick bite. The olive oil is a very good idea. Happy Trails. Good Luck, Rick

Here are 4-5 Wolf packs in California for a total of < 30 wolves. I’d still lean towards coyote, as the wolves in CA are in Northern CA.

You'll run into Gifford Pinchot again at the Columbia River crossing on Bridge of the Gods when you leave the Mt Hood NF in Oregon and enter the Gifford Pinchot NF in Washington. After Pinchot left the Forest Service, the next Chief began industrial clear cutting, destroying millions of acres of forest. Pinchot came west to see the destruction and declared that Washington and Oregon forests should never again be clearcut. It's a fight that continues today, but most cutting is handled in a manner that is more sympathetic to the forests because of laws enacted in the 1970s and 1980s, and continuing today for a more balanced approach.

I’m glad I’m not the only one to reuse a backpacking meal bag. They are like a stand to keep the food upright. And work good to keep the heat in too. You could have seen a coyote print. There are a lot of them up there. I’m guessing it was that. Don’t think there are wolves here in CA. But I’ve seen coyotes in the parking lots in sequoia and Yosemite national parks. I’m gonna guess that’s what you saw.
@blueboats75302 жыл бұрын
I agree, not really any other viable candidates other than coyotes
@tw65702 жыл бұрын
Hi guys! I wait for your uploads and I'm living vicariously through you until I can get back up into the Sierras. Hopefully soon permanently! Anyway, the print you saw was probably a coyote (as someone else pointed out too). Just a few wolves have made it back into California so far, you'd be very lucky to encounter one and I don't think they've made it down to where you are. Coyotes are everywhere. Crafty little buggers and nothing to worry about.
@deflep712 жыл бұрын
Gifford Pinchot was the first chief of the U. S Forest service. Stephen Mather of Mather pass was the first head of the National Park service. John Muir of Muir pass is self explanatory

Hello from PA! Wondering if the local Pinchot trails were named after the governor. Love yr videos!
@justdavethehikingguy14802 жыл бұрын
A fox print and wolf print are going to be waaaaaay different in size. If you see a wolf track, you will think "OMG, that's gotta be the biggest dog in the world." A coyote track will be about the same size as a medium sized dog. A fox track will be slightly bigger than a house cat track but canine looking.

The Jolly button down, triple crown shirts RULE! The breath very well, dry fast, don’t stink out, and have excellent abrasion resistance. Looks like the color holds up well too, given the minimal level of fade that Corey’s shirt is showing when compared to Julia’s brand new shirt.
