Fun fact there is a 30 foot log floating in Crater Lake vertically since 1896 it is called the old man. It is so strang to see.

Very cool! Had to look this up as a fellow fun fact connoisseur. The log has been floating about since at least the 1890s, and travels average of 2/3rds of a mile per day. Now I want to see it one day 😁

Thx for the great footage! You mentioned something about why the trail is not more "direct" rather than meandering around for what seems no good reason. The reason might be to avoid steeper grades so that the trail does not erode as much from rain.

Loved this segment! STUNNİNG views again. "Better than pond" made me lol so thanks for that! 1800 seems like a big milestone, hurray! İt's certainly possible to develop allergies later in life btw (my bro in law became very allergic to wasps stings in his mid 40s), might want to get tested once you're home.

I'm really happy for you that you got to see Crater Lake, it's one of those things you just can't comprehend unless you see it in person (sort of like Zion or the Grand Canyon.) I have very fond memories of taking my kids camping and hiking around the rim.

The huge and beautiful Crater Lake Lodge was where most pct hikers ate/stayed/resupplied a few years back but I know there was a big fire there some years ago so it must not be there anymore, 😭 Maybe Mazama Village is the rebuild of the old lodge. Someone out there probably knows. Anyhow, I am sorry you didn't get to go there Frozen. But just seeing that lake is really the big deal. I must get back there one day soon! Hope you have a great time there!

I may reply for nothing but concerning the curves in the trail, when it was traced many years ago, there may have been huge trees blocking the way or bushes of some kind that required attention. A trail follows the least destructive way. Fires may also cause changes in the trail. Just enjoy it!😊 That’s was hiking is all about…

those are all part of it plus as others said/ erosion control. the rains would make a straight trail into a canyon

809 miles left to go, hopefully you'll get past the fires that Kyle was hesitant about, for going thru WA. I got stuck at a Nat'l Monument area near Astoria last SEP, by a hornet. The staff at the desk gave me a little repellent sting kit. It took about 3-4 weeks to heal up.

Gotta say it, some of my fav parts of your AT thruhike were seeing the towns as you went through them a bit more. In this vid around 11:35, you go from the trail, to the shot of the brown wall, to the food layout and back to the trail. Just a weird, too quick sequence and If anything less time just seeing you walk the trail a bit would be better. Still just small critique, thanx as always. Crater lake looked awesome though!

doesn't go to water sources/ haha what sources? no rain = no water yeah there really aren't many ways to fix that unfortunately until you get to WA maybe where it rains a little more.... got to love Crater Lake being so far above the water though, right there but no easy way to drink it... so cool you hike up to and around the Lake, what a great experience. West Coast people dont litter much at these Parks other than to leave TP on trails (yuck) but people really do try ... almost caught up now i head into Yosemite and Death Valley for another week. i'll assume your hike is going well, i'll be back for more videos in a week or so...

it is such a remote and clear lake they are not taking any chances with people bringing the snorkel they used on a Cruise in Crater Lake: To protect the clarity of the lake and decrease the possibility of introducing invasive species these items are not allowed in the lake: scuba and snorkeling gear.// there's no outlet, it's all rain and snow... very easy to spoil it
