I'm telling ya, this winter we are gonna get slammed a few times with some good heavy snowfall in the lowlands. The way its been raining I think its going to do the same when it gets cold.

What is lowlands?
@crystalh32486 күн бұрын
@terryleung622 The lowlands are the area's we live in. When the snow levels drop.

@@terryleung622 yep. Here in WA state specifically is what I'm talking about. Seattle area. We have the Olympic mountain range to the west and the Cascade mountains to the east. In between the two is the "lowlands"

I did indeed see snowflakes on my forecast earlier today, 1000ft outside Longview. Not there now, but I remember the early snow storm when we first moved here three years ago, so not ruling out snow before the New Year!

I'm not quite ready to start thinking about lowland snow just yet, but with December less than three weeks away I suppose it's time to start preparing, both vehicle-wise and mentally. I bet we get at least one or two travel-disrupting dumps this year. Thanks Michael!

We didn't get much for a wind event inland. We're just shy of 90 miles from the coastline here in Parkrose. I was able to log two gusts at 17 mph each but that was it wind storm wise. We did receive nearly 1 inch of rain though!

If you're smart phone shows snowflakes that forecast app is not very good. Unfortunately many forecast apps are completely AI and they just look at the low temperature, they don't consider whether the precip and low temperature will occur at the same time and they don't look at the temperature at different altitudes. That's where it really helps to have a human forecaster. If you look at 925 milibar 2,500 feet temperature you will see that it is way above freezing for the foreseeable future. Snow falls about 1,000 feet below the freezing level so to get snow at sea level the 2500 ft temperature would have to be about 27 degrees F, -3 degrees C. A human forecaster would also say wait a minute the air is coming off the ocean and ocean air is almost always too warm for snow, to get snow you need the wind to be blowing off land.

True but I've seen it snow in Marysville at 100' at 41° so you can't rule anything out😂 especially when mine occasionally shows it over 500' in North Lynnwood

Michael... it's all hands on deck as the new administration assembles the Cabinet. Each of the nominees are the antithesis of the agency's mission(s) they are assigned to serve and that's to dismantle the regulatory and administrative state. NOAA is on the chopping block. The National Weather Service would be spun off and privatized. The USGS would be stripped of funding and unable to properly provide essential safety information during tectonic events. The EPA is poised to be ripped of its enforcement powers, and the mention of climate change will be officially removed from the public square. Quite frankly, we are entering a frighteningly dystopian nightmare scenario where all norms will disappear. I've tried to keep this as apolitical as possible. I believe in facts and being WELL informed. Anyone who has doubts needs to learn about Project 2025. It's all there and it's happening right now. Meanwhile, keep up the great forecasting. Your neighbor in North City, Seattle.
@matthewlarson7387 күн бұрын
P 2025 is not and has never been a part of the incoming administration's agenda. The heritage foundation created it as a "wishlist" of what _they_ want the new administration to achieve. Keep an eye out to see if any of their members get appointed to a cabinet position. You should write your statement down somewhere you will see it regularly. Then see if any of the dramatic changes to the NWS, USGS, and EPA you've claimed will happen by July 4, 2026, the deadline Trump gave the proposed department of government efficiency to complete their work.
