Well, considering Del Toro is a fan of Evangelion, which came about from the same company that did Gunbuster, both of which were inspired by Ideon mostly.. It's not surprising. As usual, we can link everything back to Tomino sooner or later. I'm sure he'd be glad to see the real robot genre finally pulling out of its hyper grim roots in to a world where little death or horror occur as heroic soldiers battle evil.

Except that Del Toro has NEVER seen Evangelion. observationdeck.io9.com/the-comparison-everyone-wants-to-make-evangelion-vs-p-805474792

Darren180223 I've never seen it either and I'm a fan. I like the concept, but don't like Shinji, so I haven't seen 90% of Evangelion.

Del Toro has never seen Evangelion. Both Evangelion and Pacific Rim are tributes to Giant Hero vs Giant Monster shows like Ultraman, Evangelion takes a darker twist by including apocalyptic/religious elements reminiscent of Go Nagai's Devilman and Yoshiyuki Tomino's Ideon.

Primus Productions I'd say it's closer to Power Rangers than anything else, personally.

onigojira I don't remember morphing heroes in Pacific Rim, the only comparison is Giant Robots and they aren't even the same kind, every Sentai series since Sun Vulcan has had combining robots Pacific Rim has a variety of inspirations, and it shares some of them with Evangelion, that is why they are similar, not because one inspired the other but because they share inspirations. Both Anno and Del Torro grew up watching mecha anime and Tokusatsu shows on opposites sides of the Pacific.

Pacific Rim is a total rip of Evengelion, Gunbuster, Godzilla and every japanese monster movie ever made.
@18022310 жыл бұрын
Brainless idiots like you say rip-off. Everyone else with a brain will say HOMAGE.
@PrimusProductions10 жыл бұрын
1. Del Toro has never seen Evangelion 2. This was a tribute to Mazinger Z, Godzilla etc. all shows Anno and Del Toro grew up watching on opposite sides of the Pacific.

I know that, maybe you misunderstood my comment? What I meant to say is that since NGE has the whole "monster of the week" thing, Pacific Rim was/is inspired by it.
@cruzgonzalez706111 жыл бұрын
NGE much? Oh that's right that's because it was inspired by NGE. Herr Derr.

i though you meant gunbuster was inspired by nge, but it wasnt inspired by nge
@whathefuzizthiz11 жыл бұрын
no, nge came after gunbuster, the only thing pacific rim has got in common with nge is mechas
