hi, I've been watching your videos and,I'm about to pull the trigger on a tig welder, did some tig welding in school years ago ,but definitely not a tig expert, but Im pretty sure I want an everlast ,just wondering witch model you reccomend? I was leaning toward a 210 ext ..but are ext models better ? and is there much difference between the 255 and the 210 ? I'm looking to weld aluminum, various types and also would like to be able to weld stainless,headers and exhaust.. if you could take a lil time to point me in the right direction, I would extremely appreciate it thanks ...Eric

Hey Dusty, one feature of the 255EXT you may not have noticed is that if you push in the setting knob while turning, it magnifies the step size 10X, so you can make large changes MUCH faster. My personal biggest gripe is that the fan blows out the front so I have to keep the machine well away from my work area or divert the blast with a towel. My second biggest gripe is the noise of the constantly running fan. I wish it would shut off or at least slow down when not welding. A third annoyance is probably the norm for full-digital welders, and one the analog models (with knobs & switches) don't have. When you shut it off, it forgets your settings if they're not saved in a memory slot. This makes it a pain when you want a quiet coffee break but don't want to overwrite your current saved configuration. I find myself leaving the machine on when I would like to shut it down for half an hour. I made my own water cooler that shuts off the pump a minute after welding, and it verifies adequate torch flow before sending my weld command on to the 255EXT. Your viewers may not realize that the cable in a water cooled torch is much smaller than an air-cooled equivalent and NEEDS coolant flow to keep from melting down.
@mjbright9460
@mjbright9460 10 ай бұрын
So is air cooled more efficient or are there options for larger hoses?
@ralphwaters8905
@ralphwaters8905 10 ай бұрын
@@mjbright9460 - Water cooled TIG torches do not offer different sizes of cable. The head, handle, and cable are all part of a system designed to handle a specific current rating. Technically, the larger cable in an air-cooled torch would make it slightly more efficient than a water-cooled torch, electrically speaking, but this does not affect you directly. TIG and SMAW (stick) welding are both constant-CURRENT processes, so the slight extra voltage drop thru a smaller torch cable will be handled automatically by the machine. If you were running a MIG (GMAW, FCAW) machine (constant VOLTAGE process) you might notice a slight difference between guns with different cable sizes. Of course, machines differ as much as people, and we all must play with our settings experimentally so this overrides all else.

Watching your channel is probably the main reason I invested in a ACDC TIG Welder. I had recently purchased a "multi-process" machine for general welding work and quickly realised that the various "multi" machines tend to be a "jack of all trades and master on none" kinda thing. I'm in Oz and bought a well respected and well featured 200A ACDC TIG machine (In Oz its a Unimig but I think you guys see them as a Jasic or Razorweld). The biggest omission on my machine to me is the lack of an ability to store jobs/setups. I say that .. but I got the machine to learn on and I still don't have power to the workshop ;( The next model up in their range (415V 20A) does store jobs! Although I haven't even sparked an arc I'm already looking at my next TIG machine. I really like the "Torchology" torches and consumables that come with my machine but they're non standard and if I want to stick with them I'm kinda locked into a brand. I recently found that Everlast is available to me here at similar prices to the Unimig (Razorweld) brand and that's a really good thing. Thanks for your reviews and insight.

I was a TIG welder professionally 30 years ago and picked up a 200 amp Everlast machine for home and hobby stuff now I'm retired. Can't fault the way it welds, just I'm a bit shaky now. @@jesspierce5626 Sorry for taking so long to reply. I missed the message. Anyway, I bought two 25' runs of #1 cable and kept the #4 that came with the welder to make a short whip for the stinger. #1 is probably overkill for a 200 amp machine, but you know, go big or go home, right.

@@caseyrakes6184 Everlast claim their machines are compatible with industry standard fittings. However, the cable connectors are smaller than the ones on the heavy duty welders I used in the trade. That said these suit case style welders are getting very popular and I'm sure your local welding supply store has connectors that will fit. Cables of course will fit any connector that is rated for the size. My welded shipped with #4 cable, but I was able to get #1 cable to fit the original connectors. #1 is the biggest they could take though. Hope that helps.

Great video and thanks for posting the video. I own an everlast 255 ext. Although I use it to stick weld mostly, I have a lot to learn more about tig. I did have an issue with the machine going crazy, I called customer support and they were helpful. The fix was taking apart the cover, tighten all possible connections and and blow out any dust that may have accumulated. It stick welded very nice after that. Now I need more torch time and possibly a water cooler.

I use my 255EXT very little. It’s spent most of five years in air conditioned comfort. Got it out today to make an aluminum repair. Water hose in the torch assembly has turned to glass, broke when uncoiling the torch. Has only had distilled water in it. Argon flowmeter o-rings are shot, spews gas. Swapped another Everlast flowmeter, hose threads are smaller. Changed to its hose and it blew apart at the clamped barb. Hoses have turned sticky and are moldy inside. TIG pedal isn’t tapering amperage properly. I’ll never know if the machine itself is working because I can’t get past the other failures. Yes, I was prepared for potential trouble. The Everlast purchase was an intentional experiment. This is the result.

I have an older (2012) 250 EX, bought new on closeout. It's mostly been a good machine, with one outstanding issue - I had to send the machine in for repair in 2016 when the processer board played out. Had to ship it to a service center in ID on my dime, they took 6 months to fix it, and when I got it back the machine looked like little kids did the repair. To the good, Everlast has since upgraded their service and repair network, and have said customers are no longer waiting forever to get their machines back. Also had problems with the machine not liking to pedal pulse (pump the pedal a few times, and the arc will noticeably get dimmer and lose power). Does it if you use the pulse function too, but if you cycle the main power switch it will pulse normally for a while. Planning to upgrade to an EXT machine next year so I haven't really tried to get to the bottom of that. Like Dusty said, the fans are really loud. It seems like I read the newer 325EXT models have or will have fan-on-demand, but don't take my word for it. My plan is to get their new remote foot pedal, a longer torch cable, and park the machine a little further away from my table.

210 EXT does almost everything the 255 does (that really matters) for a nice chunk of change less (even for the air-cooled 255). From memory the 210 gives up these to the 255: - No sine wave in A/C (but it has the other 3) - No specific 6010 rod function - Easy setup functions (seems like a pretty useless feature) - Probably has a lower duty cycle (but I'm just assuming here) - And of course 45 AMPS lower top end. The 210 will also work with a water cooler if you decide to get one later. I say get the 210 unless you KNOW you need to weld thicker aluminum. Even then I'll bet a 200A machine can get it done with an extra pass...

So I’ve been in the business 25 years and my old thermal ac started dying last year so in a pinch I bought a Vulcan from hf because of the warranty and it isn’t all bad but mostly the pedal and high frequency such. So I’m looking to upgrade and have been eyeing this...I’d really prefer a fronius Miller or htp but for now none of those are friendly to my budget. Now are you using this as a daily driver versus your HTP? Does the high frequency compare to one of the big brands or is is weak on AC and require changing electrodes often?

@@smokefentanyl Not a fair comment. Practically every USA mfr of anything tech, including welders, uses Asian pieces/parts, even if they appear to claim otherwise. We get what we pay for, certainly at least in the long run, but IMHO the main reason there is a really big gap between the lower end - mid machines and blue/red/yellow (eh...) is that the latter have raised prices much more aggressively over the last year or so. Surely Everlast is not Vevor or Yeswelder class.

@@smokefentanylI have a 255ext and a 400ext, plus a 253 dpi MIG, along with my millermatic 200. Previously owned a Miller Dynasty 350dx and an XMT with the 22A feeder. All of the Millers I love, but I actually give the 255 and 400 preference over the Dynasty in the arc. Now, the Miller is a much better build quality, but I can pound on these everlast machines and they do well. They have great performance on low amp dc and high Amp aluminum. Miller just has nicer buttons/knobs, made heavier. The DPI I wouldn't purchase again. It welds nice, but it's no Millermatic. I only bought it to build a tank that was all vertical welding and it couldn't have any leaks. I had one issue with the DPI, sent it in and no troubles since. Service took 4 weeks door to door.

I have had both everlast and primeweld mig and stick machines mainly just to see what they are about. They have some great features but when you dig them in for hours on end up toward 200 amps welding 3/8 or 1/2 or 5/8 or more like us loggers do their duty cycles are a joke next to my Lincoln Idealarc 250, Miller Bobcat 250 portable, and my Forney 270 amp mig. Now to be honest I also have a millermatic 250 that has always been junk.

Yeah. I'm on the verge of buying something and I was leaning toward the Canaweld TIG AC/DC 201 Pulse-D based on his past videos (and a little, honestly, on the fact I'm Canadian) but I get the sense Dusty has entered into a marketing relationship that prevents him from saying much about anything non-Everlast. Did you notice the tape or sticky note placed over the name of his Canaweld unit? When companies make agreements with "influencers" they will often try to bind them into special conditions. "You can keep the welder as long as when you do your review, you make sure that our brand name is the only one which can be made out," is the kind of thing that gets put on the table. I do notice that he hasn't compared it to the Canaweld unit. That says something (maybe not a lot, but something nevertheless) and I don't see an "affiliate link" pointing to a Canaweld unit. This isn't adding up, unless Canaweld simply wasn't on board with engaging.
@bruced1429
@bruced1429 2 жыл бұрын
@@jimmurphy5739 you noticed that too, That's marketing. Peter Zila told me that Alcotec aluminum mig wire is the best and the only wire to use with pulse, I bought Nexaloy aluminum mig wire made right here in Canada and it works just fine and i have some (Esab) Alcotec wire to compare and no difference. Zila is big in with HTP, I have an Esab 215 a Fronius Transteel 2200 a HTP pro pulse 220 and a Fronius Transpocket 180. They all work just fine with what ever wire or stick I use . The HTP and Fronius 2200 both mig aluminum well I would say the Fronius has a smoother arc, the only thing the HTP has over it is pulse mig and double pulse mig aluminum.. Anyway they are all out to make a living, Everlast's real competition is coming from Yes Welder in the low to mid range welders.

@@jimmurphy5739 get the Canaweld, by far the best most reliable bang for your buck here in Canada, and they will stick by you for years to come if you need parts for your machine. Everlast is garbage made from scrap used components salvaged from other electronics with god knows how many hours on them. When I have downtime on a machine for 3 weeks to get it repaired and send it to Tennessee I have lost 10 fold. Bought a Miller and it hasn’t skipped a beat.
