Hi Mike, I managed to 'resurrect' a stock '76 FXE in the mid 80's here in England. A grey import in non-running condition, but under all the dirt it was exactly as it left the factory some 14,000mls earlier & judging by the black 'tar' in lieu of oil, it had never been serviced either! After a week of cleaning out gunge & bird nests (the tappet oil screens looked like plugs of liquorice with wire mesh in the middle.), we lubed him up & hit the button . . . then I fitted a new starter clutch & tried again, it worked. After another week of riding & fettling, the motor was as sweet as a nut & spoke reliably about potatoes at every set of lights. 'Dennis', as we called him, was sold to a guy in Lincoln & as far as I know, is still trotting around. Great motor, great result : )

Use to own an old pan head in the sixties, 66 electro glide in the eighties. Can’t remember when I got rid of it. Have a 96 Vulcan 1500 now, been relegated to the garage for over 12 years. ( Vietnam war still trying to kill me). Doubtful I’ll ever ride again, good memories though. Thanks for posting this video

Thank you for your service. I've had quite a few friends who aren't able to ride anymore. That's why there are sidecars and convertibles and who knows what else. There should be a way to at least get you in the wind.

Great job on that build! Sounds great! I had a ‘78 FLH with dual straight fishtails. Man, I miss that bike!

I am so tempted to buy a Harley just for the pleasure of listening to the engine idle. My '70 Norton sounds almost like this but there is never any substitute for cubes. Always remember going for a demo ride on a 1340 back in the early 90's. Wanted to buy that machine so bad but they told me I had to wait one year.

It's the sound of a 45 degree v-twin. But, I love the sound of Nortons, twins and singles. n i

So Sweet a Sound! I get to hear this sound because I still ride (occasionally) my '72 Super Glide-I bought it in '72. It's about 98% factory stock. Around '76 I changed it's stock ugly stovepipe muffler & years later added a new carb and a master cylinder. I only wish it had an electric starter. It has always been a beast to start on these cold days and more difficult now with my knee replacement :( -- Very nice vid - thanks.

Thank you. A really good ignition that you can program for enough retard when starting, would help.
