I've noticed that most people don't like to sleep out in the woods, most folks want to be in a tent even if there's no chance of rain. avoiding the darkness some how makes makes you feel more secure even though it is only a thin layer of nylon between you and the unknown Maybe it's mostly because I'm lazy but I really like sleeping out, I love the cool breeze, being able to see the stars and feeling like i'm part of nature. That having been said, I am still human and occasionally (quite rarely anymore) have to push out thoughts of bears or other predators that may be close by. Thankfully, I'm usually tired from all the hiking and fall to asleep quickly.
How do you deal with fears when you're in the wilderness?
It's pretty easy for me to relax when i'm in the woods but is easy to feel vulnerable and exposed. I get that. If you think about the possible hazards and the fact that you are so far from emergency services. It's easy to get anxious. I realize those hazards exist , I try to stay aware and try to be prepared but I don't dwell. If I know that I've done everything I can, it's easier to put it out of my mind which is when the magic happens!

I really enjoyed your video. Several years ago I went up the Amazon River in Peru. I did a bunch of research before the trip and found mosquitos there cause malaria. I found Sawyer brand mosquito repellant and fabric treatment that USA armed forces used. I ordered it. I treated some of my clothing and bandanas with the product and packed those items in an extra large zip lock back. I wore the treated shirt and put a treated bandana on my hat as a hat band. I also sprayed the product around the bottom of my pants legs. We traveled by boat miles up river to the jungle and back. The mosquitos were fierce like in your video. I did not get bitten at all. They would not even light on my clothing. There are several products for dogs and horses that work quite well and I'm sure for goats as well!

Hey man, I just want to thank you for doing these videos. I live in NC and used to make my way out west to hunt and hike, I've hikes the Tetons, Yosemite, Yellowstone, Crater Lake, and a number of places around Oregon, Utah and Washington. I've since been diagnosed with a pretty debilitating form of Rheumatoid Arthritis and can't do the long trips anymore. I still get out around the Carolinas and do what I can, but it's not the west! Anyhow, I can get lost in your videos and actually feel the feelings I used to get out west, and I appreciate it more than you can know!

Like most Kids I used to go night fishing on the River for a week at a time with my step Dad George and the dogs came with us except they weren't as well trained as yours and everytime we caught a big fish the dogs would jump in the river after it 😁🤭. Nothing like sitting around a big fire in the evening:) You should get one of those anti mosquito devices they create a few feet of midget free space :)

I agree with your sentiment about loving to sleep in the woods - I make a point to sleep in a hammock during my backpacking trips. (with other gear of course). Sometimes I find myself with anxious thoughts about predators, etc but have grown to ease those intrusive thoughts especially deep in nature.

Great video as always I love Ash, Juni, Bill and Levi always brings out more in your videos I got a Lab Terrier mix we call Poppy, she’s 9 weeks old now and full of energy at about 12-15 lbs already can’t wait to take her out on adventures once she gets more trained
