I had my baby in January 2022 and my hospital was out of the cooling pads and Dermoplast! I was wishing I listened to myself and packed my own when everyone told me "the hospital provides that so don't pack it." I also loved everything to be TIGHT, especially around my stomach, I lived in high waisted leggings, nursing tank top, and my belly bandit. MY experience was I felt like i could literally feel my organs moving around so it was nice to have the belly bandit. A portable sound machine was a life saver for us and the baby. Our baby was measuring 2 weeks ahead when I was pregnant and ended up not fitting in any newborn clothes so it's great you're bringing 0-3!! Wishing for a safe delivery for you!

It seems like youre pretty well prepared, just make sure you have one item, it can be something small, that makes you feel really pretty. I know that might sound stupid, but babygirl will be a blessing, but remember to always love on you as well. When they gave me a menu, I (stupidly😮) thought they wanted to know what I liked to eat, so I checked many foods. When my first meal was delivered, I wad given 3 trays of piled up food! I was horrified!!!😮Anyway, blessings to you and enjoy this special time.❤

I’m an overpacked myself Demi and I must have watched 50plus “what’s in my bag” videos. I wanted help to not overpack and only take the things I need. I thought I did a great job of taking only the essential. But when I gave birth to my first child 5months ago I really did overpack because I didn’t need most of it! Toiletries, long t-shirts and infinity depends underwear were literally all I used for my 2day stay. And I was induced lol I didn’t need anything for baby except swaddle and name plate for pictures as the hospital supplied everything. Even post partum care. Literally everything. But I will say regardless of others experience and advice, as a first time mom, please pack any and everything you think you’ll need . This is a completely new experience for you so take whatever it is you want and need to feel comfortable and complete. Sending you Tom and baby girl some love ❤

I’d Definitely bring a post partum belly wrap. I ended up needing a C-section. My biggest regret was not thinking about that or packing one. But even with a vaginal birth, it’ll make you feel more comfortable to have a belly binder for postpartum to wear at the hospital And the following 6 to 8 weeks. That’s the only extra thing I would pack. I was also self-conscious because I couldn’t see below my belly so I got fully waxed down there a few days before delivery. Nobody Has to do that. That was just my own insecurity.

I was w/my daughter & my son-in-law w/all 3 of her babies at the hospital. She brought cute outfits to wear but each time the nurses said - you’ll want to wear their hospital gowns so your own clothes don’t get all messed up w/any bodily fluids etc. Don’t think you’ll need a bath towel as the hospital will provide that & if you do bring it - where will you put it to come home w/you if it’s wet? Lots of lip balm/chap stick of some sort. Waiting to see that baby, Good Luck to you & Tom!

Yes. Bring bottles. Herein follows my practical advice for birth and post natal. Best advice I can give: don't worry what you look like. You will need all your focus on the birth, and recovery afterwards. Especially if it is a natural birth. Look after your comfort, and let everything else go, your husband can take care of the rest. He will be one of your biggest supports. I have advice for Dad, too, so read on. Women worry that they look "terrible" during birth. They don't. They may be sweaty, screaming, exhausted afterwards... but a mother holding her baby for the first time, is the most beautiful thing in God's creation. They shine with happiness (if they are awake, you will need to sleep after the birth.) You should go for looser fitting clothes. Things that are easy to get on, with minimal effort. Nothing tight on your breasts, and lower areas. You will likely be sore, trust me, you won't want anything tight or uncomfortable on your body. Leading up to, and during the birth, it's honestly best if you just forego clothes on your lower half. A robe, and little else. The doctors and midwives, will need access. I'd recommend gas, and air, rather than any morphine based painkillers. Painkillers like that will transfer to the baby, and can cause heart and lung distress. If you are going to have a natural birth, honestly, consider an epidural early on. Often, new mothers will try not to use one, saying "natural birth is better", but, trust me, you may want one. All the zen vibing music in the world won't stop the physical pain that comes from contractions. Squatting, can really help, you may need to lean on a birthing ball, keep moving, but listen to what your body is telling you. When you push, it will feel like you're trying to take a poop, push down hard, right into your bottom, as if you are constipated. It really helps. Also, you may actually poop yourself, it happens a LOT, and it is nothing to be embarrassed over. All your muscles down there will be squeezing like mad, if it happens, don't worry about it. Cursing like a sailor is also acceptable: you are giving birth. Normal social rules can be forgotten. Say whatever you need to, to get you through it. Make sure you have absorbant pads for yourself for your undies. Afterwards, you may keep discharging, which is entirely normal. Also: if you can breastfeed, great. If the baby doesn't take to it, or you can't...? Don't blame yourself! Absolutely do not, even if you feel frustrated. It's not something that magically happens for everyone. It can also take a bit for your milk to come in. Formula milk will be just fine, but if you can, use a breast pump to get out the colostrum, for the baby if she won't latch. Colostrum is important, the best stuff comes from you. However: you will come to a point where your breasts may be too sore to feed. It is perfectly OK, to supplement breastmilk with formula. A BIG point: DO NOT over clean your nipples. Do that too much, and you can get mastitis. This is hugely important, but people don't talk about it much. Pay very close attention to keeping your nipples moisturised, but do not constantly clean them. They have their own biological PH level, and if you keep stripping it with over cleaning, trouble may follow. Babies also love being swaddled. It makes them calmer. If she isn't resting, feed her, change her, swaddle her, and put her on your chest. They love it, they can hear your heartbeat. It is very important for Dad to do the same, she will recognise his voice. He should hold her as soon as possible. Softly singing to her, can also help. You should make sure you have cream for cradle cap, too. Pay close attention to her intimate bits when you change her, look for redness, soreness or swelling. Their skin can sometimes go a bit out of whack until they have adjusted to the new world. Ok, now, for Dad. Dads go through a lot of stress too, but, it's not often addressed. Your lady will be going through something extremely draining. It is one of the toughest things woman has to do. It's OK, for you to feel nervous as well. It is OK to be scared, this is new for both of you. You don't need to be constantly strong: let your feelings out, and keep telling her you are right next to her. But, try not to panic. There will be blood, and likely, screaming. Your main thing: keep mama supplied with whatever she feels she needs. If she tells you not to touch her, all of a sudden, do that. If she tells you to grab her hand the next second after, do that, without question. She will find it hard to communicate properly during all of this. Maybe some of the things she wants, will make zero sense, but get them for her anyway. Make sure you eat, too, and keep hydrated, along with her. You will very likely feel a MASSIVE surge of protectivenes, during this process. It is totally natural, you've probably come across it during pregnancy too. But, it will ramp up during the birth. Seeing your lady in pain, will be hard, and there will be a considerable adrenaline surge through it. If you feel unusually angsty, twitchy or angry at the medics buzzing around mama, again, normal. Just be aware, and catch yourself if it happens. I have known of the sweetest men, suddenly holler at the medics during birth, for seemingly no reason. It is a stress reaction: i hope you do not get it, but if you do, it's OK. Take a breath, take five, and concentrate on your lady instead. Dads can feel a bit powerless when mama's system has dropped solidly into the labour stage, patience, is your key here. Be there, as much as you can, but it IS important that you take breathers too. Keep water, a fan, and whatever else you may need to help her feel comfortable, close at hand. Have her favourite snacks ready. She will be hungry, and thirsty, through this, she is going to be using a lot of calories. Keep talking to your lady, you will both need the distraction. Labour can go on for many hours, sometimes, sixteen. Make sure, though, that the doctors are listening to her. If she feels something is wrong, make she is checked out. Women have amazing instincts during birth, they can pick up on if things aren't going good WAY before the medics do. After the birth, make sure mama can rest. Relatives will want to see the baby, and that's great, but they can wait. Once things are done, you will all three need peace and quiet. Good luck to you both. You have my warmest wishes, for a safe and quick delivery. Apologies is this is a bit too blunt: I'm British, and I wanted to give you practical advice that will be useful. This is from all of my family, mother, grandmother, other parents, and midwives. Hopefully, it can helo somehow. You both got this.

Ugh i still remember how much that hurt. Literally more than giving birth because my OB didnt tell me exactly when she was going to do it. She asked and i said yes then she told me she was just gonna take a look and went for it. It was so painful! Then she apologized saying didnt want to tell me exactly when she was doing it so i wouldnt tense up. 😢 i was pretty annoyed tbh. Then the next day she was off and i ended up with The OB on call from the medical group i was assigned to. Which worked out better because i didnt really like my OB Dr. She was kinda rude after that membrane sweep i was mad about it still lol Hope ur delivery goes smooth. I’d wear a loose dress vs stretch pants or at least bring your me with it. You might not want anything right on the nether regions if you give birth vaginally. But if it’s a c-section you won’t want anything pressing against your abdomen. Sorry if that’s TMI. Don’t overpack. There’s usually not a lot of room to put stuff. Also, the less you have to keep track of the better. Congrats on your little bundle of joy!

Trust . . . . . You’ll have less of a desire to put on all the facial stuff. The baby will be ON you, skin to skin, especially close to your face, and you won’t wan’t baby girl’s delicate skin to get product on it. Earplugs . . .. . You’ll be on high alert for listening for baby, which will likely be in a bassinet IN your room. There will be a lot of staff dipping in & out of your room, so best to keep ears free to hear & respond. Sleep mask, ditch it. You’ll be staring at your daughter the entire time. LOOSE LOOSE LOOSE fitting, DARK bottoms. You WILL ‘leak’, (post birth fun stuff) so anything you soil must be able to hide the stain well! You’ll be sore . . . . Swollen and sore, so think LOOSE, nothing binding. Wear DARK RED WARM SOCKS during delivery. Warmth because feet get cold sometimes during labor, and dark red because . . . . birthing fluids won’t stain DARK RED as much. Music. If your hospital allows it, make a beautiful playlist, something baby girl can slide into this world hearing; it may also help you relax during labor. There is some very lovely celestial music, or look up Hemi-Sync music. Incredibly beautiful pieces. Nursing pads, did you mention them? After the colostrum comes in and baby latches, you’ll be flowing like the Niagara Falls. The hospital will likely give you Kotex, but you’d better have a couple weeks worth of some heavy duty Kotex waiting for you at home. If not, you can always make a fun video of sending Tom into CVS to buy some😜 NO ONESIES til the belly button nub falls off. Pack 2-pieces instead. Are you collecting her stem cells from the umbilical cord, to place into storage? Best decision I made when my daughter was born. It may save her life one day.
