Use the BCB Crusader with a trangia stove, fits perfectly, mega heat and boils much faster than using gel fuel. Well, thats what we do in the UK.

I find the sweet spot for the Pack Stove is biofuel and alcohol burners. I have several twig stoves and the Pack Stove is at the top of the list when burning wood and debris. That looks like something that would be more of a struggle for the canteen stove. It looks like it is designed purely for the gel fuel, where the Pack Stove is a multi fuel stove and works well with several fuel types. Definitely an interesting design. I'm not a solid fuel guy, but it looks like a great stove for those fuel products.

The BCB stove is designed for solid fuel, but I was able to get it to boil water with wood for fuel. With gel fuel, the gel seems to run a little bit. I think I am going to find a small stainless steel bowl (like a spice bowl on a cooking show) to burn the gel fuel in. This would keep the mass together and may create more heat.

Looks like the pots are made of different metals which could account for heat transfer

Awesome Video! So my thoughts on the questions you noted at the end of the video are as follows: You are spot on about the loss of heat due to the open structure of our stove. Also, the Stanley’s design, long and thin... especially with the top open, doesn’t transfer heat as well as the more compact canteen cup. Finally, being a generalist style stove, some of our measurements are not as dialed in as optimally as in a stove engineered to match more intimately with one particular fuel. In this case, the distance between the fuel and bottom of the Stanley is a bit too small and therefore the residue which is a sign of some incomplete combustion. One thing I’ve been trialing is how to best and most safely increase that distance. I would be very interested in hearing your thoughts. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I agree that the design of the Stanley cup makes it take longer to heat. A lid would have added heat, but I was too lazy to go make a foil lid for the video. I know soot and resin are properties of incomplete combustion and that is to be expected in stoves like this. I’ll just usually wipe it in dirt and call it good. I just wanted people to see what they could possible expect. I’m excited to see what you have in store for us down the road.
