Grand Funk Railroad is the greatest band in my lifetime & will never be replaced. I'm 64 & heard every genre of Rock, Hard Rock. heavy Metal & in my opinion no one compares to the very short career they had, thanks to a crooked manager that divided them against each other. Long Live Grand Funk

The New York Daily News' Nationwide Readers' Poll for 1971. Tens of thousands of votes were cast from every state in the nation. Whe the final score was tallied, Grand Funk Railroad had garnered a whopping 75% of the total vote as "Best Rock Group In The U.S." Left to split up the remaining 25% were: 2 Creedence Clearwater, 3. Jackson Five, 4. Led Zeppelin, 5. Three Dog Night, 6. The Who, 7. Sly, 8. Santana, 9.Chicago, and 10.Ten Years After!

It's happened to so many bands that did not bother to gain a basic understanding of contract law, instead opting to let their musical talents see them through. Very bad strategy. All GF needed to do was hang in there for 3 more months until the contract with their producer had expired, and not renew it. So simple. One can only imagine how far this band would have gone if they'd put their egos aside and gotten some legal council. Mark, in my opinion, is in a class of his own talentwise. The three guys were a solid unit that their fans went crazy for. I was 14 in 1971...so I was there.

Here is a bit of GFRxR history that I found interesting. At a sold-out outdoor concert in Tokyo 1970, an estimated croud of 80,000 outside the stadium without tickets pushed over a telephone pole & used it as a battering ram to bust the gates open. The band risked electrocution by performing outdoors for many hours in a monsoon to prevent a riot. Anyone who believes GFRxR was not popular overseas is out of their mind.
@jakdrpr2106 Жыл бұрын
Oh man these guys were everywhere. Back in the 80s doing time in the Navy I remember in Singapore at one of the bootleg cassette shops there was this massive poster of GFR and half the shop was loaded with bootleg GFR tapes. And a lot of them were being passed around on ship when the Sony walkman was introduced.

koolbossjock, you are so lucky to have been at these great concerts. I say that Don Brewer is without a doubt, the BEST drummer in the world. Also, is there a better front-man than Mark Farner? All things considered, song writing, voice, lead guitar, keyboards, harmonica. Mark Farner is a Force as a front-man. That "crunching" bass of Mel is revolutionary. All added up, this the best live band of all time. No one Rocks like this anymore.
