I created my own network but couldn't figure out why I couldn't ping through another router. Your description helped me out by describing next hop.

Hi, first of all thanks for great video. I have a question though : Why in previous video 192.168.1.100 when pinging was showing "network unreacheable" yet in this part I see exactly same scenerio with 192.168.5.100 but when pinging it shows "timed out" (it's minute 4 of the video) Would appreciate your response. Thanks

the best tutorial about network. . can i ask a question where do you get the 0.0.0.0 number sir, is it standard to use 0.0.0.0 when jumping to other router/network sir?

i have a question, why didnt we set up both routers with one static route each? we have one static route on router 0 but with router 1 we put two individual routes to each pc network. why is that?

i believe this is to let us know how to configure routers with two different methods - Static routing and default gateway routing

no i mean to say, is the network limited to only 56kbps? which is super slow. what would be a realistic clock speed to allow fast interconnects between networks, as this would only allow 1 client on the other network to use the network as if more people used it the network woudl come to a crawl. how fast can you set the clock, how fast is a serial link capible of and why use serial and not just another ethernet or fibre?

A bit confusing here. You say next hop or next network. You did not set up the next router with the address that will be the next hop. where did you get 10.0,0,1?

I don't understand the 0.0.0.0 network?? Can anyone explain?
@jackhannah3464
@jackhannah3464 8 жыл бұрын
Sure Rasif. The 0.0.0.0 is a meta-address and it's used to designate and unknown addresses in terms of IPV4. The server side sees this and thinks 0.0.0.0 means all IPv4 addresses on the local machine. So say a host has two IP addresses, one is 192.168.1.1 and the other is 10.1.2.1, the server listens to 0.0.0.0 it will be able to reach both of the IP addresses. If we're talking about routers then think of it this way: 0.0.0.0 is the default route, which basically means, "it's not on my local network, it must be somewhere else on the internet" Since the router doesn't have a table of the "the rest of the internet" it needs a way to forward information to the next hop. So basically it's a way to reference any IPv4 address at all and it's used when the the destination is not available/unknown. In terms of IPv6 you would see this "0.0.0.0" simply as "::" which is used with repeating numbers as a shortcut in IPv6. Make sense?
