A great complimentary video to this one, would be light weight travel bags🙏 for those of us travelling through the Asian Pacific countries and budget European airlines - that have a carry on limit of 7-10 kg depending on the airline.

I bought a cheap shell style suitcase - you could buy a kids Mickey Mouse for instance. Then remove the extendable handle and all the stuff inside the case that the handle slides through. Now you have probably have a sub 1kg hard shell roomy case that will fit under the seat. To make it lighter - remove the wheels and just carry it by it’s normal handle.

My father has the zojirushi mug he uses it for taking tea to the office works great for him keeps tea hot for 6 or more hours. He has the matte black color. I think the size is the middle one 700 ml. It is hard to clean the tea stains Edit: I checked the size it was 16 ounces

This is helpful gear for EDC too! Definitely keeping an eye on that power bank and device stand for my sling to keep it lightweight. 👍🏻 And the packability of the rain jacket is perfect for a larger sling!

I love my Travelon tech organizer! I picked it up a few years ago at TJ Maxx for about $7 (they still have them). Despite its small size, it holds a lot. I keep mine in my work backpack (EDC?) and it holds 2 Apple charging bricks (USB A and C), a couple multi-head charging cables, Apple USB C cable, Apple Watch charger, Aftershokz headphone charger, 10,000mA battery, and a little suction cup phone stand.

I love to carry my Sea to Summit Poncho (packs fairly small and is really light). I think it has 2 advantages over a rain jacket. Better when it is warm (ok, that also means, it is worse when it is cold). And secondly, it also protects your backpack (especially useful in heavy rain).

Would not recommend the helium 2 to anyone looking to stay dry. I've had 3, and a coupled friends that have some. they have all wet though quickly. they work great as a wind break to improve your mid layers effectiveness. and its okay for a light sprinkle. but i would not recommend if you are going to rely on it as a rain jacket for medium to heavy downpours.

@@JAFrk If you’re looking for an ultralight rain shell I’d recommend the Montbell Versalite. Similar weight specs, and a bit more expensive, but it’s made of actual goretex infinium. While infinium is technically only windproof it’s highly water resistant, more so than the Helium. Packs stupid small, and even has pitzips, which for me are a non-negotiable part of a rain shell. All the real world reviews of the Helium I’ve seen echo what Tancrad has said. Not sure why it gets recommended in gear reviews as often as it does.
@geoffj83
@geoffj83 Жыл бұрын
I disagree. I traveled with the O.R. Helium rain jacket for a while in SEA. Was stuck on an island during a typhoon and used it during many heavy rain storms. Always kept me dry and performed way better than everyone else's rain jacket. No point in carrying a bigger and heavier rain jacket, unless you're going to be using it daily.

Cool stuff as always, thanks a lot! Yes the nitecore powerbank seems to be ultralight compared to conventional powerbanks from Anker etc. but compared to other lithium polymer powerbanks it is more or less in the range. For example the mi pro 10.000 weights just 40 grams more compared to the nitecore but delivers one more output port and can even give 22,5 Watts of output power whiles the nitecore does only 18 Watts. Yet the nitecore costs around three times the price of the mi ... The carbonfibre comb looks fine, I have to check for it. Did you already check out the Keith Titanium Combs? I love their Ti1731 model - and yes of course I'm a baldhead but a bearded one ;-)

I’ve got the three different sizes of this Zojirushi bottle. They’re the best I’ve used - and hold a lot more than the small size suggests. I usually carry mine empty through security - get a strong latte and that lasts me through a two hour flight.

@@PackHacker pro tip; denture tablets are great for cleaning water bottles, etc. They are meant to clean and disinfect “teeth” so they are safe to use (assuming you rinse it out really well). Works great on coffee and tea stains as well as slimy ick from water sitting too long. I fill my bottle with really hot water, drop in 2 tablets and let sit overnight.

Info about Nitecore. Just to cover it, if a battery says it's 10,000mAh that doesn't mean you're getting 10,000mAh. The batteries are a certain voltage but the voltage has to be changed to your cell phones (etc) voltage. That process reduces efficiency (other things do too.) If you start going on about total density of 38,500 and how it should be considered, then please describe it simply. ;)

Zojirushi is the norm in Japan and I picked one up years ago when this flip top first came out. I could never understand why thermos brand in Japan provides lightweight options yet thermos brand and all the others in the US are so bloody heavy!?!
@JAFrk
@JAFrk Жыл бұрын
Lifestyle. People in Japan walk A LOT. While there are many people who drive in Japan, there are tons of people who walk/train for their daily commute, so carry weight is important to prevent fatigue. On the other hand, majority of people in the USA drive unless you're in a city with good public transit, so having a weighty thermos isn't much of an issue.
@blakew5672
@blakew5672 Жыл бұрын
Weight is typically though of as a marker of quality in America. Not unfair given the way most American companies lighten certain products is by using inferior and less-durable components. Thermos also makes American products that heavy on the nostalgia of the brand. They’re the redwing boots of water bottles whereas the zojirushi is the carbon-plate track running shoe. I agree with ya though, I place more importance on quality goods that are also lightweight, especially when it’s something meant to be carried. Then again that could be the overly obsessive ultralight backpacker side of me coming out

I am so proud of my travel bag which is just 1kg, and I am traveling with it any countries, weeks to months. but I didn't know about the mobile battery which weighs just 150g. mine is Anker, called PowerCore 10000mAh PD Redux 25W, and which is about 194g. it would be so awesome if I can reduce 44g. so I added that battery in my wishlist. please let know any recommandations for shavers. mine is 70g, I believe that it could have been more lighter.

That powerbank invests too much into luxury exterior. The carbon case boosts the price tag to unreasonable level, otherwise it is just an average powerbank with typical technologies, no superior to competitors. Slightly lighter though, but the weight economy varies in wide range depending on the competitor. For example, Hoco Q7 weighs just 7 grams heavier, costs half the price. I'm pretty sure there are much more options to consider, if research deeper. Well, unless you're charmed by shining carbon texture.

@@PackHacker I acknowledge that this info isn’t conducive to affiliate marketing. :) But seriously. If you are buying a special bag to protect your packing from a bar of soap… instead of just not packing the soap… Or buying little plastic bottles for shampoo and hand wash… instead of not packing the hand wash or shampoo… Or carrying a drinks holder… instead of just using what the drink normally comes in… Then you aren’t really packing lighter at all. I have lived out of a suitcase permanently for 15 years. I started with 40kg. Now I generally travel with a total weight of 10 to 12kg. That includes mirror less camera and three lens; a 1.5m tripod; GoPro and kit; mask and flippers; laptop; powerbank; messenger bag for carryon; hardshell suitcase for checkin (can also carryon if weight allows) and a JBL flip. It’s actually much easier to travel light by not buying anything.
