I found a number of airlines made me check my 45 litre M.E.I. bag or Tortuga 45 litre. But when I went smaller to 35 litre Minaal bag, then they always allowed me to carry on. Now I’ve gone even smaller, to a 21 litre Minaal Daily, plus a 6 litre cross body sling bag, and travel months at a time. Carry on always now.
@KeithandDev2 жыл бұрын
So far we have had no troubles getting on airplanes with our bags :) we have flown, air transit, air iberia, Ryanair, and Pegasus (although with Pegasus you were only allowed one bag, no personal item, which we both have so getting everything to fit in one bag was stressful. So probably won’t fly with them again :) That’s amazing you can travel so lightly ! We find our camera gear does take up a good amount of space but we do still have a good amount of stuff. It could be nice to down size :)
@robertwilliamson61212 жыл бұрын
@@KeithandDev The airlines that gave me a problem with my 45 litre bags were Cathay Pacific, Bangkok Airways, and Dragon Air. For going smaller I’ve adopted a minimalist style of one bag carry on travel. I can now go months, and indefinitely with just my 21 litre Minaal Daily and my Osprey 6 litre cross body sling. It helps that I travel only warm tropical countries. So no need of heavier clothing.
@KeithandDev2 жыл бұрын
@@robertwilliamson6121 thanks Robert, we will keep those airlines in mind about maybe avoiding when booking flights in the future :) thanks! @@KeithandDev My only cameras are the camera on my iPhone and the camera on my Sonim XP3 phone and the camera on my iPad Mini. No other camera equipment, and no laptop or sound equipment. I’m also 70 years old now, and it’s much easier for me going much lighter and taking less stuff, much of which I used only once, or not at all, or that I could buy at my destination much cheaper than in my own country. I feel more free also being able to just pick up and go. Grab my bag out of the overhead, and never have to wait at airport carousels anymore, or wonder who’s handling my luggage, or hoping it didn’t accidentally get put on the wrong plane. Probably the most useful and fun one bag travel video I have ever seen. Awesome job! Have y'all run in to any issues where the airlines don't allow both a personal item and carry on yet? And where they weight he carry on bag? I have read certain international flights like Emirates and Qatar airways have started doing this and that can get in the way of one bag travel.
@KeithandDev2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jez T, thanks for all the kind words and thanks for watching! 😊 Yes we recently had that come up with Pegasus Airlines, where they only allowed one bag even though we paid extra. We managed to downsize Devons laptop bag so her personal item could be the burgundy purse she has. We both wore more layers and my front carrying sling was allowed as my personal item at the check in desk (although at the gate, one of the staff questioned it and another said it was alright). I told them I was good to go based on the check in desk. It does make it more stressful though and we’ll try to avoid those Airlines I think in the future. Hope this helps!

Here in Australia there's a 7 kilo max weight for carry-on bags.

Great video full of helpful advice. (I wish I’d had the benefit of your views prior to taking 12 years pairs of footwear on a not-very-recent three week road trip with Jen… which she has never let me forget…) I’m outing you both as hockey players - not pairs or ice-dancers - given your “spinning”abilities!

Shoes wise all you need is black runners (so they can be fancy) and sandles for warm weather! (So far we’ve been good ☺️) Also JR (this is Devon and I actually laughed out loud at your hockey comment 😂, very true, very true)

So awesome! I love following along your trip! How much do you think your bags weigh?!
@KeithandDev2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for following along Ellen we really appreciate it 🥰 we weighted them before we left and Keith’s was heavier than mine but they were literally right at the limit. Just under 30 pounds. (They do get heavy after a while but totally manageable :) )

Very informativne video, thank you! I noticed quite a few liquids. How did you manage to get all into carry-on?
@KeithandDev Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Naruto :) so far in our travels we have not had any troubles with our liquids. We separate then between the two of us which I think it helps a lot.

Once you settle into the hotel what do you take out into the town with you?

If we are going in for the day, we will bring the sling with our camera gear and the one of the packable backpacks with our water bottle and whatever else we need for the day. The small backpacks are really handy :)

Good job! Keith in your clothing you have a blue(gray) zipped jacket, fleece maybe. It's not on your Amazon shopping list, any idea of the brand? Thanks you!

Hi thanks! Yeah it's not on the update packing list, but it's still a fantastic fleece by Burton. Im unable to find it online unfortunately. Anyhow thanks so much for watching! :)

Hi you two! Really enjoy watching your videos, especially this one! What's your solution with towel(s)? Do you have a lightweight shower towel with you or do you use the ones provided in hotels/hostels? Also, what would you recommend for SE Asia? xx Sara
@KeithandDev2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Sara 😊 for towels we normally use the ones from hotels, Airbnb’s, friends house etc, but when we’re out or on the beach or when we’re desperate, we use the microfibre towels we brought and they can be life savers (check gear list for info). They aren’t the softest or most absorbant but they do the trick, pack tightly, and most importantly DRY VERY QUICKLY! I say it’s a must as a travel item. Although we haven’t yet been to SE Asia we know it’s humid and hot (Towel would be good for when sweaty, at the beach, or doing water activities). For hostels sometime towels cost extra and in SE Asia depending on accommodations it might just be BYO towel… best of luck and safe travels!

Great, but here in Europe most carry on luggage has a maximum weight of 7 kg, if you also take a handbag the 2 TOGETHER can not weigh more than 12 kg. No change in hell to pack for a year with that limit. Their are also strict size restrictions
@KeithandDev2 жыл бұрын
Hey Mary, we totally appreciate your knowledge. We just finished 9 months in Europe with those bags and were able to get on every flight with no issues :)
@jaypp93722 жыл бұрын
Most airlines seem to have a weight limit for carry on of 7kgs unless you go Business and it increases to 15kgs. Your bags look heavier, I would be interested to know their weight?

I got my laptop bag at our local mall at a bentlys I believe which is a travel bag store. I’d you check out our packing list in the description it has the brand on it :). My other little bag is a lululemon sling :)

Did you have any trouble with carry on bag weight? In Australia, airlines will often weight your carry on and make you check it in (and charge you a fee to do so) if it's over the weight limit, which is 7 or 10 kg depending on the airline.
@KeithandDev Жыл бұрын
Hi Rachel, so far in our travels we have not had any troubles with our carry-on bags, we also have a few strategies, if we see they are going to weigh the bags. We are working on a website with blog posts so will create a post about that :)
@KeithandDev Жыл бұрын
That being said we still have not managed to make it to Australia so have not tested our bags there :)

Salutations à vous deux de la ville de Québec ! I'm currently planning my first backpacking trip to Europe next year and your video has helped me a great deal. A 45L backpack seems a little big to be considered carry-on size. What has your experience at airports been like with this particular backpack so far ? Also, how do you prevent pickpocketing and theft on the road with that many bags ?
@KeithandDev2 жыл бұрын
Allo Charles! Nous sommes heureux de vous avoir aidé avec votre planif! Yes 45L is technically bigger than instructed dimensions for some airlines, but not by much and hasn't been an issue for us so far. If you are able check in online for your flight you won't likely get questioned, the bag is close enough to most required dimensions, in fact most peoples carry on bags/luggage look bigger than ours. Even at check in desks for boarding passes they don't usually question you if you carry your bag with confidence. The peak design backpack looks smaller than it is too and it fits nicely into overhead compartment so there's no issue there either. As for pickpocketing, all 5 bags have strong inconspicuous zippers and some tuck away or tie up together. I wear the peak design sling on my front and Devon wears her wallet pouch on her front too. We keep our bags close and avoid carrying them around for extended periods of time in the open. Hope this helps!
