If you've never traveled with just a carry-on, we highly recommend it. Why? Because it’s freeing. There’s no need to wait at the airport to get your checked luggage. You can breeze through security quickly. And you have everything you need on you at all times.

This might be easier for females, but I always find that a nice big size but thin material scarf is an excellent thing to have while traveling. It can be a pillow, blanket, swimming cover, dress up accessory, or modesty garment for religious spaces.

Right? Even if you get a cheap bag/bags (one shoe in an individual bag), for use with one trip it's a much better thing than to have germs from the floor touching your clothes. I about cringe now when I see someone just throw shoes in there.

Great tips, and I know from own experience that they all work. Here two of my tips: a) there is a clothes grouping method which is especially practical on short trips, e.g. whiles going a short trail or for trips of some professionals like truckers etc: the day roll method. Means: Form a roll from whatever you need on one day - socks, underwear, shirts etc. - so you don't have to open your sock bag, your underwear bag, your shirt bag etc. but just grab the Friday roll, the Saturday roll, etc. b) Always carry a pashmina stola (approx. 30"x80", if possible at least 70% pashmina/cashmere wool) with you. Has almost no weight (max 250 g) and takes zero space in whatever luggage. But it doubles as your blanket in the airplane, as replacement for a pullover on cold evenings, as additional blanket layer on your bed in the hostel, comforts you in the early morning taxi to the airport etc. Carry it especially also for summer or tropical destinations, cos you will definitely need it at least in the evenings - when it turns down from 38° C to 23° you will feel cold. Pro tip: works also for men. ;-)

I saw comments about what a female would pack: here’s my two-cents:: As a female who is becoming more experienced in traveling out of only carry one, (specifically via planes) I’m also a chronic over packer I like to pack 1 shirt per day up to 5, after that I’ll have to rewear/wash, and 2-4 pants or bottoms. Plus one nice outfit. I find that solid colors work best. I have 2 toiletries bag- one for normal bathrooms items (including Tide Pen, sunscreen, bug spray, itchy cream, bandaids, anti-bacterial cream, Advil) and 1 for makeup, both are about 8”x5” by 3” (or so) deep. I’ve also had no need to place them in clear zip lock bags, everything is under FDA Carry on liquid size. I like packing cubes (Amazon recommended work well enough for me) sometimes I will put a smaller one with underwear/bathing suits inside other packing cubes. I also roll the majority of my clothes and fold the “bigger” clothes such as a nice dresser type sweater. I like to wear my boots, jeans, belt, coat while traveling because it’s the hardest to pack. Id possible I like to pack 1 set of nicer or open toe shoe and one light weight closed toe shoe. If I will be on planes for more than 4 hours I will bring a neck pillow, I also bring 1 book (just in case) my phone, headphones (& chargers) with movies/shows downloaded, and a phone holder that clips to the tray table in front of me. (Best thing I’ve purchased yet!) An umbrella, I also pack 1 or 2 snacks, and EMPTY water bottle, and wipes (face/hands + disinfectant). Of course I can’t forget hand sanitizer. Lastly I only take 1 set of jewelry which I wear 100% of the time unless I’m swimming. I also suggest using a lock on your backpack for the added security. Please if you have any advice to add or experience I’d like to hear your standard packing list!!

I practice packing MULTIPLE times before trips - and edit, re-pack, and repeat! I also take a large lightweight laundry bag on road trips. When going home, I hate to re-pack into my suitcase. Usually I just throw my clothes into the laundry bag and toss that into the car. A scrapbooker friend taught me that track.

Yes! They really need to do a women's edition. I feel like women have to pack more than guys, especially toiletries: Hair brush, make-up, sanitary products, etc. Even our clothes are tougher to pack. A guy can get away with wearing the same dress shirt multiple times, but we are expected to have more variety in our wardrobe.

If I had it my way, I wouldn't wear make-up and just dress in shorts/jeans, t-shirt and flipflops. This pandemic has made that a reality for the past year. But once everything opens up again, I'll be required to put on make-up, wear dress skirts or pants or shirts with fancy cutouts or designs and appear "put together" for society.

I have been doing one bag travel (internationally) for almost a year now and yes these tips are really helpful. I am strictly Merino wool when I am traveling. Firstly it's wearable when hot or even when it's a bit chilly...regulating my body temperature a bit better than most other clothes. Secondly it's anti-microbial so you don't have body odour and you don't have to wash it every day. Finally it's less prone to wrinkles. I still haven't found a formal shirt equivalent to it but that's okay for now since I mostly travel for fun and not business. However for people who travel for a bit of work and fun mixed together, it will be great to have something formal that doesn't wrinkle up and can be chucked inside the bag without a worry.

Been one bagging for 35 years (same eagle creek bag) and I still learned a few tips from this channel. Two inexpensive suggestions for you. Consider a 100% thin batik/patterned sarong (72x36 inches). It works as a towel, a coverup, a bed sheet, privacy shade, laptop case, sling bag and a hundred other things. It will replace a few things you mentioned, weighs little and is multi purpose. I also bring a shemagh or keffiyah that works as a warming or cooling scarf, hat, sling, etc but is smaller at ~42x42 inches. Worth knowing how to use it from other KZbin videos.

I have traveled in 9 countries. I roll together 1 slacks or jeans, a pr. underwear, a pr. Socks and 1 top in one bundle. And put them in packing cubes. I put other tops in a separate packing cube. Just grab one bundle and you have saved a lot of time. For skirts I lay out the skirt, a pr underwear,, then a slip, then a top, fold lengthwise and roll them together. Same convenience. I pack overshirts, jackets, etc in 2.5 gallon Hefty zip lock bags. Fold them sleeves in and then in thirds. They easily slide in, compress and pack flat. It is handy to have the zip lock bag to put a wet raincoat in. Pack shoes each separate and line the edges of the bag with them. Cram extra Socks or belts into the shoes. Just some ideas. These have really worked for me! HAPPY TRAILS!

Hi Guys Really nice to see you guys up to speed again with your videos and travel. Thank goodness, we can start travelling again. As you said, carry on travel is THE best way to travel. I bought the Osprey 55cm long ruckdack after your recommendation. The only disadvantage I found to this was even just 8kg srarts to weigh down tremendously when you have to hang around in the airport fir a few hours. The wheeled trolly cases look really nice at those times!! Do you have any suggestions/ideas for how to roll/wheel a rucksack such as the Osprey 55l which does not have wheels?

I have the Peak Design as my travel backpack. I like the simple sleek design without all the stuff on the outside. I snapped the top to it to make it look smaller and for a sleeker contour rather than boxy looking. The main reason I chose this backpack was for the security features it provides when you are traveling in crowded public spaces. Thanks for a common sense approach to packing. Some videos I've seen have you doing some weird folding techniques or require specialized equipment (like a vacuum) to pack your bag. As another commenter said, I would really love to see a women's edition. Most of your tips work perfectly fine for everyone, but I'd like to know how the heck to pack a dress/skirt properly. No matter how I fold them or lay them out, they always have wrinkles in the oddest places.

We've found creasing can be reduced depending on the materials. Items like the Wool& Rowena Swing Dress and Bluffworks Trevi Dress have impressed up so far, even if there are a few wrinkles they drop out pretty quickly. - Rebecca

No matter the fabric, wrinkles will release easily without ironing. I just pack a small water spray bottle. FIll with water upon arrival, unpack, hang wrinkled stuff in bathroom and lightly spray both sides with water. 99% of the time, the wrinkles 'release' in seconds...no bathroom steaming or ironing required. Best travel fabrics are blends - I prefer rayon - I stay away from polyester - it's too hot for me. But even wools (I like merino), cotton, and linen 'release' wrinkles when lightly sprayed with water. I never travel with or wear denim jeans. Too thick, hot, uncomfortable for me.

For Australia, and nearby countries, there’s a 7kg (15 pound) limit for carry-on luggage,. That pack, as configured, would’ve needed to be checked. I think the GR2 pack weighs around 2kg, and I suspect the rest of the items would weigh between 6-8 kgs. I’ve got an osprey transporter 36 ltr and I was able to pack enough for 3 days, but I had to work from my iPad, as the addition of my lap-top took my pack over the allowable weight. (It was 6.7 kgs in the end). Good video though.👍🏼

2kg is too heavy. A good ultralight backpack for about 35l would be less than .4kg. Couldn't you bring a personal bag that could fit your laptop as well as the carry-on?

@@canyonoverlook9937 Regarding the personal item, it depends on what airline, the ticket you purchase and whether you're flying domestic or international. For example, Qantas International economy (from what I've seen on their website) has a 7kg limit on carry on bag, and allows a personal item. The allowances differ if you buy a premium economy, business and first class ticket. They further differ if you fly domestic! Jetstar allows a personal item, but the combined weight of the carry on item and personal item must be less than 7kg (as stated on their website. In practice, I don't know if Jetstar weight both items!). In any case, 7kg isn't much to play with!

I find lots of vids on packing but I barely see any vids on laundry and used stuff. Do you just put them back on the compartments then you wash the compartments with the clothes as soon as you get home? That's the part I might need some more tips on travelling.

I think it is better to put sandals sideways inside the bag or in the pocket that easy to reach for. Most of the time you have to change from wearing shoes to sandals on your travel.

I have been searching for a good travel backpack for years, and I always end up using my years old Northface Overhaul 40. It is literally the only pack I have ever had that has a nice easy access pouch that I can put in my large bluetooth headphones and have easy access to them. I wish I could have that AND a clamshell opener as that would be ideal. Any suggestions? BTW - I have the GR1 and I hate it.

Great video..It would be nice to see how to pack by weight limit. In Asia, carryon luggage is limited by weight, not so much size. 7kg is the limit. Having moved to SE Asia I find that it has really changed by packing routine. It would be nice for you to address this issue. I imagine that some travelers would be unaware of this. Great tips, as usual. I plan on starting my world travels next year. The one thing I never hear or see about with packing is the CPAP machine. It's medically exempt from weight for flying; however, the portable machines and tubes still take up room. Any insight would be helpful.

I don't know why weight has never been an issue in videos like this. Many airlines weigh carry on luggage and if they exceed 7kgs, you will be asked to check-in the luggage. You can stuff all the travel items in one bag, that's for sure. But, will they stay below 7kgs?

He may not mention it here, but he does in other videos. He mentions that you should wear your heaviest items in this video, but also you can put heavy clothes on or in your pockets if necessary.

With my 33l bag pack that opens nearly halfway down: I usually just fold larger items in the center: pants, shirts, sweater. Below dirty clothes and shoes in separate plastic bags. Then put smaller clothes in rolls to the sides to maximize the volume use: one side for socks and other for underpants. That leaves the top of the bag for easy access and heavier stuff like chargers, toiletries and so on. Laptop has a dedicated pocket which it slides into.

My observations: 1. Packing super efficiently, and completely filling our luggage, is a double-edged sword. You can take more, and perhaps downsize your main bag, but keep in mind that pre-departure we packed under ideal conditions, but on the road we'll be tired and not at our best. I find it's better to pack less efficiently outbound (packing cubes for organization, instead of space-saving military rolling),. 2. No one has really figured out whether its better to use a 7 lb roller/spinner or a 3 lb one bag - is it worth an extra 4-5 lbs to get the weight off our backs? 3. Rollers and spinners won't compress into a tight taxi trunk. They also take up space at home, unless they can be repurposed for underbed storage,. 4. Duffles, especially rollinng duffles, have some appeal. They are uusually 2 lbs lighter than hardside luggage. They don't need space for a lid to open. However, duffles in perfectly efficient rectangular - not oval or round - shapes are a litttle harder to find. Since only the toboggan bottom is a shell, they can be flattened down for underbed storage at home. 5. I hate one bags with 17" laptop slots, which waste a lot of empty space when I stow my 13" Mac Air. Also, there's no way to make sure the laptop stays centered, or doesn't simply carom from one side to the other. eBags solved the problem with an adjustable laptop slot (at least adjustable vertically) and the bagside panel is soft, thin draping fabric instead of a foam panel 0 the soft fabric will drape over the laptop edges and close out empty space, due to their rigidity, foam panels preserve the dead air space. 6. On the old Patagonia MLC Dawn Patrol "onepack", there was a frontmost wet slot; intended for some wet suit gear back in the day, but also good for swiming trunks that don't have time to dry, and rain shells that need to be stowed until later. 7. Water bottle slots are good for many things but not bottles, which inevitably slide out. Use them for gloves and mittens, watch caps, snacks, but be careful using them for water 8. Every quality travel pack I own has suspended laptop slots these days, but no provision to keep the laptop from sliding upwards into the unpadded top of the pack, if the pack inverts during a fall or tumble. 9. Most travel packs, travel duffles, flight bags invite casual pilfering. They are poorly thought out in terms of intrusions. 10. Never, ever use tear drop shaped backpacks as carryone or personal item; the tear drop shape is terribly inefficient due to the sloped front and tapered sides.

The way I learned this was to make three piles, what you need, what you want and luxuries. You then pack the first pile and leave the other two.

Plus, (for women) we really ONLY need PJs, toothbrush, deodorant (which you can also get from the hotel - if staying there), undies, swimsuit, swim coverup, dressy scarf, thong sandals, plus 2 tops...skip makeup, nix jewelry, delete hair accessories - unless traveling for work or a wedding.

Please consider a range of women, not just younger ones with youthful skin, slender bodies, and pain-free feet. Of course it's easy for them to pack. Or grab something at the store that will suffice if a need arises - everything fits! Everything works! I'm content to scurry around the EU with my larger hardside until someone produces a video that TRUTHFULLY addresses a wider demographic than is presented here and on most other channels. Anything less becomes a vehicle for shaming those with greater needs.

If traveling to a location with cold climate, just layer and invest in a heated vest. It'll help you avoid bringing a bulky jacket. To carry less gear, just bring an iPad pro then remote to a cloud virtual machine or remote to your home PC.

Me too... light packing, the extreme one I just pack 3 shirts, 1 trousers, 2 shorts and 4 underwears for a month. Plus 1 jacket ultralight & vest. Do washing every third days... , the rest is my gadgets heavier than my clothes 🤣🤣🤣

For ultra-cold climates: Check what the locals wear. You may not need those bulky boots. Thin under layers and easily adjustable warm layers for transitioning to and from sweltering interiors and freezing exteriors (no hot, bulky pullovers that can't be easily removed). Two layerable hats for visual variety and greater temperature regulation: ultra-warm thin bottom layer hat (fleece or smart wool) plus 2nd stretchier hat that fits comfortably over the top when very cold. Outer layer warm scarf plus multiple ultralight (even summer weight) scarves (layer or swap once inside). Waterproof or resistant shoes well broken in before trip.

I travel for work & only carry my work bag with a suit carrier onboard the plane. I take 2 suits & 3 shirts, socks, underwear, casual polo shirt / shorts clothes & another pair of sports shoes. I hate waiting for bags & on a longer trip I swap a small carryon bag with a satchel inside. All my electronics are USB-C chargeable & I use 1 type of cable from a USB port.
