thanks for being completely honest about the bags. I absolutely LUV the fact that they are made with such a high quality of silicone (medical grade); the fact that you can use them to warm things up in the oven; throw them in a boiling pot of water, the microwave & the dishwasher! But the fact that they are not waterproof is the downfall for me. They are far too expensive to 'Not' be waterproof. And I guess I'm just going to have to continue searching for another product.

Super curious on how well they store, especially the stand-up model, if it's not being used while one bagging for a trip. I'm concerned how heavy they are and how much room they take up. Exploring their use as a tech pack or alternative to a collapsible food storage container. Would be sweet if you could share more on that! 😊

did you end up trying these? Im looking for an option to replace single servings of meat frozen, so like snack size/sandwich. Ive tried a couple now, but they deteriorate fast after multiple uses.

How easy it is to load stuff, slide into pack, are they slippery or tacky, can you fold them?

I have a question, are they sweat resistant? I plan on possibly using them to store ice and to use for a cooler bag. I can’t seem to find an answer anywhere else. Will they sweat water as much as other plastic bags? Thanks!!

Would the small one be good for a zippo? I am wanting a pouch to hold it to: 1. keep scratches to a minimum while in my pack/pocket and 2. help with evaporation I know there’s dedicated cases like Thyrm PyroVault, but I want my EDC zippo to be seen when in use. The titanium is too beautiful for a plastic case. I just need a small water-resistant pouch of some sort. Help?

Did you ever try this? If it works I might get mine out of whatever box it got dropped into after running out of fuel over the course of a two day hike in summer...

Reviews don't talk about the seal enough. I want to know how easy it is to close and open. My husband has arthritis and has trouble with the silicone bags I have now.
@veggirl1964
@veggirl1964 2 жыл бұрын
I find them easier to open than a regular plastic ziplock bag. I have arthritis and have managed to get these open. The trick for me is to open at the corners rather than trying to open by grasping the middle of the seal. I am completely unable to open them from grasping the middle of the zipper seal (grasping is anything is difficult for my fingers). At the corners, however, they are stiff enough that I can pry it open with the sides of my thumbs to get it started rather than needing to grasp and pull. I've used the pocket and the sandwich size like that. I hope that makes sense; it's easier to do than to explain. :)

Not that great for freezer then. I brought some and seals are annoying to clean if using them for messy things like spaghetti Bolognese sauce. They are expensive. And they take up a lot of space considering capacity. But they are more earth friendly and I've boiled thinly sliced chicken in them and used them for refrigerated foods and I am glad I brought them despite the cons.

Hey Daphne - these clean up easily if you're handwashing them too, just be sure to stand them up (or even pop them over your water bottle) so that they dry quickly. 😊 - Rebecca

Hey PCBfighting - we haven't tested this out ourselves, so we're unable to verify how well this works, but Stasher does state on their site that they are sous vide ready. 😊You can also find out more info on this in our full written review here packhacker.com/travel-gear/stasher/reusable-silicone-bags/ 👍 - Rebecca

Sorry but plastic ziplock bags aren't single use bags. You can wash them if get have food residue and re use them. I re use them all the time. I use them until the bag's lock stops working which happens almost after 6-8months of use. Why are you guys using it just once?

@@louisle974 Oh I don't mean to say silicone bags are wasteful or a bad alternative. They would be long term for sure, no doubt about that. I use silicone bags but much bigger and flatter ones but for ID cards and essential smaller document storage while traveling. I was just irked by the statement that 'ziploc bags are single use bags.' They definitely are not. Silicone bags can be useful but they are much expensive and to be honest I feel they aren't really that good for food to store as thicker the bag, higher chance for the ziplock to open if filled a little above its limit which defeats the purpose of the bag. Ziploc on the other hand don't mind having a fat belly they would stay sealed. I feel like Silicone bags are like the premium version of ziploc bags, buy them if they justify the price for you. Ziploc bags are easy to clean. Turn them inside out, use warm water and a few drops of dish soap to clean/wash them, rinse and let them air dry. Do not use hot water, it will weaken the plastic and stretch it out. And make sure you air dry or it could get moldy and/or smelly.

I believe the important part about using these bags is that they reduce the use of plastic in general. Plastic Ziploc bags with an actual lock is fine to use... for a while. Like you said, the closure may break over time. I have had a lot of unsuccessful attempts with trying to reuse ziplock bags because they rip. Then they become useless and end up in the trash and then go to landfills or in our oceans. There are single-use sandwich bags that have no locking zip, and simply fold over the top. These are especially wasteful, as the fact that they have no zip makes it much more difficult to reuse them. It's more about the longevity of the item than anything. Or, if you don't really care that you're helping the earth, you are saving your money as well. If I bought Stasher bags right now, I could probably pay off my purchase within a year by not having to buy more sandwich bags. There are some things that freezer Ziploc bags do better, I think, which is prevent freezer burn. But that may be the only thing I can think of.
