One thing I like to do is check the locking stows before getting started flattening the canopy. It sucks to get yourself committed to folding up and find out that you have to run get another stow.

Excellent video - thank you! One question though - I'm surprised you didn't really do anything with the fabric for the brakes before wrapping it all up with the tail. I've seen some people alternate fold/flake them over each other towards the center - but just leaving them as-is is recommended?

I was wondering the same thing. I was taught to tuck the flaked ends into the centre to help avoid a line over malfunction. Then pull up tail as he did. It would be interesting if Beau could clarify this step.

@@mattgaetz5548 just make sure your lines stay in the center of the pack job, folding the tail to the center or leaving them like beau has them doesn't make a difference.

Got a question, got new gear I jumped yet and working on learning pro packing. I have rubber bands that appear tighter than in the videos you all posted so should I get looser bands to double stow or single stow the smaller ones? Thanks for your excellent content!!

Hey there Marty! We recommend always double stowing each line stow. For the most part, you'll usually see two sizes of rubber bands used for packing. The "Large" is the way to go! You can buy them at most dropzones and online gear stores.

Could you explain why you don't push the nose in, not neccessarily rolling it or pushing it in deep?

Just leave it like that, rolling the nose does not will softener the opening, straight nose will lead the canopy to a on heading opening, thats the reason. and the only device that will soft your opening is the slider, do what he did with the slider, with the closing tail and with the nose and test it. You will see the difference, i did and just realize they are 100% right.

If you push the nose and slider too far in they won't be the first thing to catch air and you run the risk of a high-speed opening which could snap your back or neck.

When you make your first “S fold” you’re pulling from the lines, wouldn’t that drag your rig on the ground? I love that technique better that starting at the top, but I’m concerned about dragging my rig on the rings.

There are some fabrics you can get to place the rig while folding the parachute. Then you can drag the rig without any risks 👍🏽 After you stowed the lines you just remove the fabric. It has some velcros to secure it

I see people dragging their rigs all the time. Depending on the packing surface it could create friction. I would guess to say it’s not recommended but certainly not something that’s very frowned upon

I use a purpose build "Packing mat" it attaches to the rig and then can be dragged, I would not drag container accros the floor without it.

It’s Just going to change the amount of force to pull the stows out. I imagine that single stows on the last few could help prevent a bag lock as if your pilot chute doesn’t catch air well because it gets trapped on top of you it’s still likely to pull the stows out.

New chutes are not fun !!! My Saber 2 was so difficult, in fact it seemed to doubled my packing time. Then slowly the "slippery" wore off (20-40 pack jobs) and now it is much easier to pack. The big thing for me was controlling the fabric better. Looking forward to jumping in 2021. Happy New Year

I also noted that you NEVER laid prone on the pack job to push air out of the cocooned canopy. I think that your strategy of using a lower leg to put pressure on the pack job after you have "stripped out air" with alternating forearms is perhaps the critical part of your modus operandi. Secondarily, there was that other important point you made about sizing properly the first fold at the slider grommets somewhere in a tight range between "too big" and "too small". Everybody can appreciate that making that fold too small would be bad, but hardly anybody seems to mention that making it too large also can lead to very certain doom when the final S-fold is attempted --- hardly any of the big shots around here in MN ever make that particular point to earnest newbies floundering on the packing floor. Are beginners allowed to suffer just for the apparent enjoyment of silent, sadistic, and sideline elders ? Thanks for putting this video online.

You raise an interesting point with the nose & it seems to be a personal preference thing. If I pro pack I put the nose in. If I psycho pack I leave the nose out. I get good openings with both methods so long may that continue !!!

@@skydiverc1656 straight nose lead to an on heading opening and an on heading opening can save your life, thats a good reason to follow the manufacturer's rules and theres more about the slider and how you close the tail, you are not saving anybodies time.
