Packing for a DISNEY CRUISE with a SERVICE DOG

In today's video I talk about what I'm packing for my service dog for our Disney Cruise. Packing for a cruise is an extra challenge (especially with a dog) because you're stuck in the middle of the ocean, so it is more important not to forget anything. I hope this is helpful if you're going on a cruise soon, and let me know in comments if you have any questions!
As for the thumbnail photo- obviously I did not try to make my dog sleep in his crate sideways. I had to flip it over for a few seconds to attach the luggage tag, and as soon as I flipped it over he ran right in! It was adorable, so I had to get a photo.

I love the idea of bringing a P pad as an Emergency potty spot. I have heard horror stories of dogs getting diarrhea in the middle of the airport, and I couldn’t imagine how horrible that would be! What a great idea! I do the same thing with bringing paper towels and wipes and sanitizer but I’m going to add the P pad to my repertoire. In terms of going on a cruise, I have seen what the relief areas look like on them, and I just know my girl would not want to use it. It would be stressful for both of us since she can be a picky reliever when she wants to. I am actually going on my first cruise in May, but I have decided to leave my dog with friends just because of the relieving spots! Hope you guys have a great time though!

We had a great time! It depends on the cruise line, but we went with Disney, and they had real grass outside, so my dog had no problem. I made some videos on the cruise, and they should be up in a week or two, so you can see what it looks like then. Zenith is good at relieving as long as we are outside. He refuses to go at indoor relief areas at airports, so I wouldn't go on a cruise line that didn't have an outdoor relief area. Anyway have fun on your cruise!!

Yes, I always take them when traveling. My dog had a poop in the airport, I used the absorbent granules they’re so helpful.

It seems to me if it is a real service dog, it should be trained to go on command.

I just got back from a cruise with my service dog - we had a BLAST!!! I did a series of videos on the whole experience, mostly so my Mom could 'be there with us' through KZbin! We chose Royal Caribbean, and everything was set up very nice for Mavis. I also brought pee pads just in case I needed to get her to potty somewhere where there was no potty spot. Didn't need them, but I was glad I brought them! The Bahamas paperwork was a huge pain - for the future, you can fax it to them for a 2-day turn around to get your paperwork back. You might know this, but for those that don't, you can write "Service Dog" at the top and request that they waive the fees. It only cost me the price of the fax, well ... faxes because I messed up the first time! I took a doggy cooling coat and didn't end up needing it, nor did I use her booties. It was warm out, but the ground remained reasonable. Mavis was very popular in her clownfish-themed life vest during the Muster Drill too! Looking forward to seeing your next videos! We went on a Disney cruise that left from Florida. Disney is really good with disabilities.

Great videos! Our youngest daughter was recently matched with her guide dog. Where did you buy your blue harness for the beach with the loop leash handle? We live close to the beach, but I worry about her hardness from the guide dog school getting ruined at the beach.

Hmm that's an interesting idea. I'll think about it. My concern is that laws, etc. can change. I would be afraid that if I were to make a video, someone could watch it a year later and the information might be outdated. But maybe I'll make a video talking about it on a more general level. Basically, I called Disney Special Services first, then I called the USDA, got paperwork on their website, filled it out, mailed it to the Bahamas, then the Bahamas mailed me paperwork that I had to have filled out by my vet. My dog had to get a physical right before we left, then we emailed the paperwork to Disney and brought many copies with us spread out among different suitcases to make sure we wouldn't lose it. They checked the paperwork at Guest's Services as soon as we got on the ship, then we were good to go. Hope that helps!

No, this is not true for flying in the US at the present moment. Here is a helpful chart from the US government explaining the law: www.transportation.gov/sites/dot.gov/files/docs/P3.SA_.HUD%20Matrix.6-28-6.pdf . Please see page 2, row 3, column 2. The new law under consideration would count psychiatric service dogs as being the same as any other kind of task trained service dog for a person with a disability as in the ADA, but that law is not yet in effect, and it would require more paperwork for both of us. I personally believe psychiatric service dogs should be legally identical to any other service dog so long as it is task trained for a person with a disability, but that is not currently the law when it comes to flying in the US.

You are right currently under the DOT (air carrier access act), psychiatric service animals need a doctors note because they are considered ESAs. However, the law is supposed to be updated to include psychiatric service dogs as service animals in the near future and ban all ESAs. However, for general access to public places a doctors note is not required and a psychiatric service animal is under the service animal umbrella by the ADA. Furthermore, ESAs are not allowed public access rights under the ADA sorry for any of the confusion.

Service Dog or Pet Dog disguised as a Service Dog? With that said, there are some really great items she talks about that you can really use if you have a Real Service Dog.
