14:49 When I was younger I remember passing out homeless care bags and one of the things we put in them were little cards with the information for near by homeless shelters and rehabilitation centers. I felt like this was an amazing item to add especially if you’re embracing them with the warmth of love. They’ll probably be more prone to call one of those numbers/seek help since you were so nice to them. 😊

Hi Adam & Sherri 🤗🙏!!! Isn’t God so great? I have been praying for the longest time for God to “use” me and like you, have the same calling❤ I volunteered at a Christian connected food bank and fell in love with the shoppers, who for a lot of the vol’s did not. Instead really treating them as somehow less than people which made me try that much harder to remember names, smile, laugh share my also hard earned joy🤗🤗🤗(which by the way I knew deeply I would never experience.) Had a pastor when I was 19 that told me so. He was wrong! Back to the food pantry I so loved, I got fired🙀!!! Have you ever??? Anyway, long story….with an amazingly beautiful new mission, I am now going to them, also by being led🙌 My joy is boundless! Mother Theresa knew this and there have been very few so well blessed. TY for all you do, what a wonderful, educational, inspirational video😻

The sad reality is that not everybody is housing ready. And those people are fortunate to have individuals/couples/families like you to stand by the cracks to make sure those people slipping through are not forgotten. Not for a hand out but for a hand up. But it's a big job, and we need more hands...and more hearts.

I'm putting a kit together right now and your video has useful ideas. tonight it's dropping below freezing and we have a lot of homeless in the area and the shelters don't have room, and right now I'm just throwing together anything I have extra of and going for a walk to see if somebody needs it. I searched this to see if there's anything I didn't think of.

One thing to think about two is I have a friend that’s homeless and you have to be because she has to be kind of cautious when she goes into businesses about what she’s scaring and how she looks because otherwise she’ll be thrown out, so so the first thing I did is I went and ordered her a rolling bag. That’s a nice fabric one for shopping so she can put all of her crap in it and it not scream hopeless person you know she’s able to walk into Starbucks or the mall or anywhere with her rolling bag look like anybody else . They’re not cheap but they’re well worth it. They last for years and it gives her some dignity back.. . She said she needed socks and underwear, but there’s no place that gives out socks and underwear really except the shelters. She has some middle illness so she’s kind of afraid of the shelters, but she said, even if you go to Goodwill, they may have like a pair or two but it’s used like there’s nowhere you can go as a homeless person she said really and get stocks and underwear which is something that she _ So I got her a rolling bag a couple months ago I’m kind of adding to it because you know I just can’t go out and buy a bunch of stuff. I’m not working myself but yeah, I’ve kind of added like if I find something at the dollar store and put it in and one thing I’m going to try to get her is like one of those mini stoves that you can fall down they use tablets or you can actually use them with wood that would be another awesome thing to give somebody because that way they could heat some water, you know they can heat water for instant soup instant noodles she’s currently staying in no electricity, but you know, at least with that she could make tea and some small things again there you can get some of them very cheaply and they fold up into nothing. You could also get these little complete meals from Hartville. They’re not super healthy but they’re shit shelf stable so they don’t need to be refrigerated and of course if you get a little tiny stove with a little pot and if she could heat it up and have a nice meal. Also, remember Tylenol and Advil as well as pads and don’t forget to think of homeless pets as well that these people a lot of people have dogs.

Thank you for sharing! It’s such a good thing to do. I like how you say ‘friends’ - I’m sure you have friends experiencing homelessness but it also reminds us that everyone is someone’s son, daughter, bother, sister, friend, etc. Another idea is to have feminine care products for women because they also don’t have access to those items. LOVE this bag idea. I just have separate items. In Calif. I bought small tubes of sun screen. Also, I travel a lot so I save the lotion, body wash and hotel soaps that I don’t use. Many hotels also have coffee packs that include filters. BIG HIT on the street. Gotta find a local charity that may have surplus Bombas. I’ve been buying Costco crew socks. Last, many homeless folks have dogs. Petco gave us a case of dog food (with pull off tops, not everyone has a can opener). You and Sherri are Angels on earth my friend and thanks for the humanity piece reminder. It’s essential.

It is called the Free Out Homelessness 5K. It is always run at night in January. This helps all participants get a better idea what it is like to be outside during the cold winter night. It was also a great reminder to all of us just how blessed we are. 2020 meant no races.....made me sad. This video reminded me there are still things I can do to help the homeless this winter. This year has been so hard on all of us...while I did my usual holiday giving already, I still had the desire on my heart to do a little more so I am going to make some of these and bring them with me to run errands since I know I will pass some spots where the homeless congregate. Adam, just want you to know - I watched a video of yours a while ago where you discussed going to Seattle and bringing socks for the homeless. You inspired me to do the same on my most recent trip there in the fall of 2019 - spent a good part of one of the days I was there walking around and was able to pass out quite a few pairs. Oh, another thing would be like a very small backpacker camping stove you can get them super cheap or they’re just like a little metal piece that is the size small piece of paper and they could use tablets or I think you can also use wood but it’s just big enough to heat Like some water. I had a friend who’s homeless she kind of basically still is and you know even though she’s in a house there’s no electricity so having someway to heat water and cook things is really good.

That Christmas card is an amazing idea. I’ve spent some Thanksgiving and Christmases alone and it’s terrible. I’m very happy now to have somewhere to go for Christmas, but there was a time where I didn’t and it was so hard to see all of my neighbors get presents and it was no Christmas card for me. There was no present coming for me And it was so difficult. It was so difficult to lose my family in the span of two years. You know I went from having family holiday to nothing and nobody it was. It was so hard I remember getting a card like the real estate agent or something like that and see the card being so excited that you know somebody was actually thinking of being ripped the card up and the bill to realize it was like an advert. You know saying that another thing would be you know if you had the money money would be baby to put like a little present in there at Christmas because odds are nobody will be getting an actual wrapped present . I now have the worst to go at Christmas and I’m very very grateful because it’s so hard to be a load of the holidays and I’ll say to people I like to be alone but it’s truth is you know it’s so hard and difficult

Oh, speaking of the dental issues giving somebody a bottle of Listerine can really help. If you have demon issues I have 26 cavities. Yes I do take care of my teeth they’re due to a medical issue. You know I’m kind of fixing one at a time so if you use Listerine and you have an active infection, it’ll really help your teeth and a lot. This is another thing that she told me about because she has a lot of dental issues and she said to make sure that you know I include the Listerine because he could really knock out Some painful teeth and also get some of the numbing gel for teeth when you can always make this a separate little kid if it And just asked if somebody needs it>

Hi hi, i have a question. So, I live in the Vegas area and often drive by people who have signs that just say “hungry.” Now, me and my two roommates are all college student and we receive food from our campus once a week. We usually cook together and share meals, so we have an abundance of canned vegetables that we don’t use. In your opinion, is it appropriate to put some cans in a bag along with some other things even if we can’t provide can openers? Thank you 😊
@LeggLife10 ай бұрын
Such a good question! Yes, I think it's appropriate to still give them. They may have a can opener, or know someone who does, or get creative on how to open them. Either way, it's still a source of food that they may not have had otherwise.

It's hard to say. Sometimes they are, sometimes they may not be.

I see this video is about 4 years old now. Do you still give out masks?

Good question! If I have extras I will include them, but not necessary like they used to be.

Toothbrush and toothpaste is a good idea I believe. Not all homeless have bad teeth, there are homeless from all walks of life these days:( And even if they're teethless they still need to wash their mouth.

I love this. But, I was thinking of giving tea bags, green tea and chamomile. Caffeine is an addictive drug as well.

Community care is different than “ charity”. Look for ways to care.
