With our flock it's always a special feeling to herd them in the dark, they stay way closer and act different, People that aren't in sheep and goat herding always can't understand how it works to handle 2 dogs, and a flock between 700-1000 individuals in the dark, but yes it works pretty well, usually our leading sheeps get a distance between 3-100cm, but in the dark you've got them all close to you.

Considering goats have dichromatic vision, have you tried wearing a red headlamp and/or placing red marker lights on the animals?

If you could time a night hike with clear skies & a full moon I bet it'd be beautiful - I've been on some nocturnal walks when the moon was bright enough to throw clear shadows. I hope I'll get opportunity to try it with pack-goats one day...

Take an infrared thermometer out on one of those nights. Check the ground in a shadow, then check in direct moonlight. It will mess with your head.

If your up for it you should try some longer form videos actually showing you hikes with the goats.

A red predator hunting light would be perfect for this situation.
