My goats have learned “go to the barn” “get in the truck” “let’s go to the trailer”. They are so smart and sensitive. My Husband was hospitalized for three weeks, and our little doe was inconsolable, as he had never been away for more than two or three nights before. Every evening I would put him on Speaker phone to talk with her and she would perk up. FaceTime didn’t work though (I don’t think they see screens the same way we do, or at least not phones!). As our girl was a feral orphan and we couldn’t find her a companion she really bonded to us and came everywhere with us, slept in the bedroom, so we were her only little “herd”. I need more goats… two just isn’t enough but it’s a start.

I have a single goat. He was a bottle fed rescue I've had since he was 4 days old. My boyfriend & I are his herd as well. He lives in the house & sleeps in our room. He is 3 years old & I want to get him a friend but don't want 2 house goats & I don't think he would take being an outside goat very well (even with a friend).

As always, great info. I personally think goats are the smartest most complex four legged animal. I tell people all the time that our goats truly love us and their response is usually, "May dog/cat loves me too", but I'm sure you understand that it's just not the same. We have a wether right now who is 11 months old and would rather be a "people". Depression is an issue with him and he wants to hang with us rather than the other goats, but as he grows bigger he is finding his place.

Awesome video with excellent info. Being medically retired from the army 92-2014, I was lost in a lot of ways. Mainly, because I couldn’t do the job that I loved so much anymore. No team, squad, platoon. My goats saved me in a lot of ways!! The connection is unbelievable!

I notice how static your goats are in the cold weather. Here in QLD Australia our goats never stand still. I actually thought you were standing in front of a green screen with a photo of goats in the background:) Our goats are always active unless they’re chilling to chew cud. I also appreciate your honesty about handling them. New goat owners, just like new parents, can lose their cool and get rough. The key is time, patience, knowledge and experience that teaches us to put our ego aside, and work with our animals as they understand the world, instead of how we preconceive the world. You’re a good teacher, mate. And I very much appreciate your input. Regards from Armstrong Beach, Australia.

I have Kiko goats, and one dairy goat. They all free range. I have seen where the herd will head out but the young kids will stay behind. For the first couple of weeks I will see one of the mums stay behind to "babysit" and I have even seen my dairy goat take that role on occasion. As the kids get older some will go with the herd, some will stay back. So long as there are at least 2 kids staying behind, or one kid and an older sister, they are fine. My dairy goat is the exception and will stay behind by herself on occasion. But she is accustomed to being by herself from her previous owner. She does enjoy being in a herd, but sometimes she just doesn't want to leave the barn area.

I love your channel. I’ve had goats for about a year and a half now, knowing nothing about them when I got the first young buck as a companion/playmate for my overly high energy puppy. They played hard and really enjoyed each other, and I began to learn about goats. He left when he got too buckish for my dog to play with without injury. I have a buck and two fresheners now - one due to kid again in a couple of months. I will milk her and love the kids. When I got the current buck, Zachariah, I was told he would eat from my hand but not let me touch him. That was true for about a month. After watching me brush and love on Elizabeth every morning, he decided he wanted some of that too. Now he is the biggest love me, scratch me, brush me snuggle bunny goat. My newest doe Abigail, was wild as could be, but after a month of seeing the others enjoy treats and love, she decided to give it a try. Now I need another arm/hand to brush them all at the same time so no one gets jealous, which they do. Goats are so affectionate, intelligent and just wonderful animals to be around. I thank God every day for creating them and leading me to them.

I met a black goat at our local pet farm yesterday. I patted him like there was no tomorrow. Then I took a selfie with him. He looks so gappy in it. I actually miss him! I'm a goat too (Capricorn), so I empathise a lot with their depression.

My goat imprinted on me. We bought her alone, and she stayed alone for a year. Her herd was me and my chickens (about 20) so she was never alone. Recently, we had a LOT of fox attacks, and we lost all of our chickens in the span of a week. So we looked for another goat, but we wanted a tiny one (my current one is almost 70kg and we don’t want one as big) so we got a dwarf goat. However, it has been hard. Bella, my big goat, will NOT let the dwarf goat get near me. Every time the dwarf tries to bond with me, Bella gets angry and head-but’s her. I got no idea how to make them get along...

thx, you are really a help me. My ram (my 1st one) was at another heard servicing the does (about a week ago) and he came back a complete ashole. He flipped me over. Thank goodness for your and other videos on how to flip a goat. I was able to avoid the full brunt of his horns, get his stinking beard and flip him. He is smashing his horns against the gates and I tried to get some branches in for him and his son to eat. Not a chance he just head butts the gate. I am tossing their food over the fence at this point. He talks to me a lot and before he went for his visit I could give him scratches. Took food and water into the camp no problem. PS I am an xhorse owner/trainer. 55yrs old. I don't need an other injury

My goats would follow me to end of the universe and have ball doing it. It’s kind of crazy close they get to you. It’s funny as well when I’m giving one the one that I was super close to when it was a kid gets super jealous. They also became super protective over my 8 chickens. They all free range an wherever the chickens are grazing the goats are. Stray dog comes on the property an gets near the chickens they are getting the horns

Actually goats don't really bleat in the technical sense, they "Hum" as well as bellow, bray and scream. Sheep strictly bleat and its a very gutteral bleat. Been around livestock my whole life and have been raising goats for 8 years now. I'm gonna say right now, this is an okay video but there is the tip of the iceberg of goats. I have bonded to adult goats who are as or more bonded than bottle babies I've raised. Bottle babies are sometimes more chill about certain handling like getting their hooves done. Not all bottle babies become super friendly. Their teenage puberty months are no joke. 🤪 In a breeding herd, the King plays just as interesting a role as the Queen. I have seen my Billy try to break up fights between his "wives" Other nannies I've seen while not dominant, served as Admins, keeping the peace and tag team working to deal with insurrections. Also, newborn kids are truly fascinating to study. They recognise their nanny's voice from the time they are about 4 monts old inside her. It takes a nanny 1-3 days to learn the voices of her kids. I was helping a nanny deliver triplets this year, she would maternal hum to them, they turned to her and called back. I humed at them the same way and the remembered my voice from while they were pregnant because I also hum to my goats as part of their training for fence-free shepherding. Like pack goats, mine also follow me anywhere I lead them. Only their job is to eat every weed in sight and raise kids for market. A good video but goat psychology is a huge and sorely misunderstood field to study.
