Fascinating stuff - the Leam was so overgrown at the start, who keeps the narrow passage open at all ? Just river users like you?

Yes I think that's possibly the case although where I live the Avon looks very similar and I'm possibly the only person to have ever paddled it when I made a coracle to do it in. I think when it gets choked up in summer by reeds like that the current becomes stronger along a slimmer channel and keeps it open... but that's only a theory. 🙂
