Paddy's Irish Whiskey | The Whiskey Dictionary

Paddy's Irish Whiskey is an OLD whiskey... it's been around for hundreds of years at this point and although some older whiskies don' really live up to the legacy compared to what's being made today, I feel strongly that Paddy's does. What do you think?

Redbreast 12 is the gold standard Irish whiskey with Knappogue Castle 12 a close second. I'm interested in some of the Teeling Irish whiskies and Midleton Rare (if it's worth the hefty price tag!).

Bill, most everyone will mention Redbreast and the Spots but a bit off main stream and very good, Powers John's Lane 12 year. And if you like some sherry, Limavady Single Malt. Cheers.

The Whistler line up is fun to go through. Maybe some of the Irishman line up. There is also an American distillery that sells an Irish whiskey called The Sons of Erin. That would be neat to see as well. Cheers Bill!

Favorite would have to be Daer Ghaelich, but that's hard to find, and very pricey. Powers John's Lane and Three Swallows are both really good options, too.

I'm doing Irish month too. Still have Glendalough 13 Mizunara & Waterford Cuvee from a couple years back now. The Peaky Blinders Bushmills also and newly purchased a Leoville Barton Green Spot I can't wait to open.

Spot on review, totally agree with everything you said. Since I don't like bourbon, this is my "go to" budget whiskey when I don't want to fork out over $30 for a drinkable scotch. This is the best value for a bottom shelf, non-bourbon whiskey that I've found. Personally, I prefer it to Jameson as well.

Yes my Irish neighbour broke me in with...a drop of not your father's....years ago. He bought Paddy's by case since it was uncommon. A good part of the taste is memories...he has since passed...sadly...glad to see it on your table...a good taste to me neat...

I prefer Paddy over the standard Jameson or Bushmills, but my favourite budget Irish has to be Powers Gold Label. Paddy makes a lovely hot toddy though, and that's how most irish people who I know drink it.

My first take on Paddy's irish whiskey was close to what you had to say about it, but when you sip it and close your eyes and just enjoy it, it reminds me of a memory of eating apple pie outside in the fall.

It’s comparable to Bushmills and Jameson, but much more Bidenomical being about 30% or so less costly ☘️

Paddy's has become my daily jam. Goes down smooth, no headache, super cheap.

Ohio just had an Irish event with an extremely overcrowded tasting of 20 or so brands. I didn't make it to half but found a couple real gems. Bunratty is a lightly peated whiskey with a nice maple/brown sugar/sherry sweetness overlaying the nice peat smoke. Fercullen Falls has a pretty small batch that's just bursting with fruit flavors and some vanilla & is really quite yummy. Both retail for about $35. Fercullen also has a single malt, 15 year-old & 21 year-old for $50, $65, & $200 respectively that I didn't have an opportunity to try (each brand was only pouring 1 whiskey).

I just went to an event here in MA on Sunday that had over 80 brands and each had about 4-6 pours. It was amazing. It's called "The Grand Dram"

The one I went to was crammed in the cafe of a grocery store so we were all pretty much shoulder to shoulder trying to make our way around. There were a couple fancy tasting events, but they cost $250-$2500. Hopefully the Ohio Department of Liquor sees this as a success and uses a government building or rents a facility for future tastings. What was your favorite from The Grand Dram?

Never had the regular Paddy's but I recently bought a Paddy's Share which is bottled at 47% and for €25 here in Ireland, it's a great budget whiskey.

Haven’t had many Irish whiskeys. Favorite would have to go with Redbreast 12, but I think Bushmills Prohibition Recipe is good too. Plus it’s Thomas Shelby approved. 😊

I stopped in the Shrewsbury Total Wine just before St Pats Day. Went in looking dor some more Tullamore Dew. Out of stock and i didn't want to deop much $$. Ended up buying this on a whim for $16. So glad i did. Easy drinker and will buy it again and put the savings towards another new find. Great review and i enjoyed your Irish Whiskey month.

Right, so couple questions... 1. Is this the same as Paddy, cause in Europe we have Paddy Irish Whiskey 2. If not, then is this one of those weird products, that have different labels for different regions? Also lovely to see you pay attention to the low budget whiskeys. It's interesting to see how people react to 200$ bottle of scotch, but then again everyone go back to sip their cheap daily...

As a Corkman it saddens me that, because Paddy was sold to Sazerac, it will likely eventually cease to be distilled in Midleton, Cork. Of the three companies that came together in the 60s to form Irish Distillers (Paddy, Powers, and Jameson) Paddy was the one originally made in Midleton (the other two coming from Dublin) and its the one that gets sold off.
