Sir, I would like to thank you for your scuba lessons on this channel. The lessons for beginners were very useful to me when I was taking the Open Water course in September last year. I became a certified diver, and once again I would like to thank you. Live long and prosper.

I have a really hard time equalizing my left ear. Any tips?
@WaterlineShorts
@WaterlineShorts 4 жыл бұрын
Over the years it's gotten harder for me to equalise my left ear too. I try to equalise before the dive to loosen the ear canal. In all honesty though I need to force it a little. It's really the only thing that works for me. I also have to give it some time off diving to let it rest. If you cant equalise then I suggest you speak to a dive doctor. I get the odd ear infection so I keep a close eye on it but if you have a narrow ear canal then your options are limited. I've never had it so bad that I can't equalise and I've never investigated surgery. I can't really help more than a dive doctor. Your GP is no good on this because you need to know the long term effects of any surgery on diving.

I have tympanosclerosis from ear issues as a child. When diving, is it easy to tell when your ears are clear?
@WaterlineShorts
@WaterlineShorts 3 жыл бұрын
It’s easy to tell because it hurts if they’re not clear but you will have to see a doctor to get signed off to dive. I would recommend finding a diving specialist because they will know. A simple way to tell for yourself is to find a deep pool, swim down and see if you can clear your ears. 2-3m do you can tell quite quickly. Even If you can clear your ears, you still need to see a diving doctor.

Why on PADI divers wear snorkel underwater all the time? Better to put it in your pocket or attach it to the D-Ring. Then it won't catch on anything that could pull the mask off your face. Possibly, it could become entangled e.g. in a net.
@WaterlineShorts
@WaterlineShorts 3 жыл бұрын
You will use a snorkel at three beginning and end of almost every dive. Better to have it in one place with easy access. Probably best to avoid nets. I've done a few dives and never been entangled.

@@WaterlineShorts In my opinion, the equipment should be configured in such a way that there are as few elements as possible that can be attached to something. If I change any element in the configuration, be it a flashlight, a new twinset or a nitrox stage, I do a lot of practice dives so that in case of problems underwater automatically (on the basis of muscle memory) I know what is where. If I see divers with snorkel, they are always doing the PADI Basic Course, I don't see it in other organizations. And in the waters in which I dive (lakes in Poland), the water transparency varies from 30cm to 15m (it depends on the lake and the season of the year. In winter there is the best visibility) so it is very easy to enter the net, and each protruding element can make it difficult for us to cut out of the net .

I’m thinking about getting my PADI next time I’m in Egypt. Did an introduction dive a few years ago, in the Red Sea. Once you’ve done that, you never wanna dive in a pool anymore. Or the sea in my country, which is very cold and hard to see under water.
@WaterlineShorts
@WaterlineShorts 3 жыл бұрын
Yes I feel the same way. I dived mostly in South Africa and since living in Europe, I make an effort to go to warm water places. I havent dived the Red Sea yet. Would love to go.

I got my sports diver cert. 1975 , over the many years i have lost the card and need replacement, HOW should I go about this
@ivoryjohnson4662
@ivoryjohnson4662 3 жыл бұрын
Go to a local dive shop, I would suggest getting the new open water course or if you dive regularly then take refresher course. A lot has changed since '75. i.e. no dive tables but great exercises. For liability sake most places will probably have you take the open water course. Its super fun.

@ivoryjohnson4662
@ivoryjohnson4662 3 жыл бұрын
@@timothymorgan9531 sorry didn’t know your skill level. But if you lost your card you should be able to go back to your agency and get another card.
@WaterlineShorts
@WaterlineShorts 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Timothy. What agency did you certify with? You will be able to get a replacement card. I think there is likely a charge for a card but should be nominal. Depending on your enthusiasm for it, you could possibly take another course to level up and use that card in future. ie: if you are a sport diver, maybe go for rescue diver and then you have a new card with the next level up. If its just the card you want then I would call up the agency who you certified with and talk with the certifications department. Going back to 1975 might be tricky because at that point it was all paper based so best to call and see where they stand. Failing that, hit me up and I will see what else we can do to get you sorted.
