PADI Scuba Dive Instructor: Instructor Development Course (IDC) & Instructor Exam (IE)

Hi Lyle good video ! Wrestling cats under water ! People come up to me all the time and ask if I will teach them how to scuba dive ? No I have absolutely no intention of teaching any body anything under water . Or potentially killing them selves I wouldn't be able to handle the guilt ! My boat is set up for scuba diving when anybody that scuba dives sees it they ask if they can come along ? I say sure get yourself a dive body and a boat and maby we will see you out there You are on your own ! "Instant buddy "doesn't work for me, It takes a special person to teach good luck to them Have a great day !

Is it worth doing the AI course on its own, I know it’s part of the IDC but is it worth doing the AI only to have to do it all again during the IDC?

Elmo, I actually took the AI separately due to some timing circumstances. PADI IDC Staff Instructors can teach up to the AI level and then I completed the OWSI with a course director. In some ways I liked this because it gave me time to fully digest the material. When you then complete the IDC you won’t have to repeat the AI portion, but there is so much material to cover it’s a good review. Talk this over with an IDC Staff Instructor or Course Director to see what would be best for you. Thanks for your question!

How would I be able to instruct underwater archaeology? I’m currently in university for history and archeology and will be doing field work this summer in the Caribbean. Will having a degree, experience and doing an instructor course be all I need? Or will I need to get someone who teaches underwater archaeology to certify me?

I actually just did the Uw archaeology course through SDI. Super fun and very very interesting. We ran through a scenario of finding a pirates skeleton, treasure, swords, cannonballs, etc. with the intent to recover everything and have it displayed in a museum exactly as we found it. Whoops. NAUI…not SDI for that one
