They most genuine proof is that if this was just a poem than it couldn't be possible to be sung in folk songs of mewari people, Because that was a urdu poem. And second thing historicians only claim the character of maharani padmavati is imaginary not whole incident. The jauhar actually happened in 1303 in chittorgarh and sufficient historical facts are available for this.

It is called Saka. In this process, Johar and Keshariya both were happened simultaneously. If one of them were not completed then it was called half Saka. 1. In Johar, Being captured and raped by enemies was unconscionable to Rajput women, who upon getting word that their armies had lost, would voluntarily jump into flames and commit jauhar to avoid capture. 2. In Keshriya, Simultaneously or thereafter, the men would ritually march to the battlefield expecting death. Jalore - 1311 In this video, First Jauhar of Chittorgarh In 1303 AD, Ala-ud- din- khilji, the Muslim Sultan of Delhi besieged Chittor fort, which was under the control of Rana Rawal Ratan Singh The Rana allowed Khilji one glimpse of his wife, Rani Padmini, in a mirror, before he was at the gates and held hostage for Padmini. Padmini sent misleading information that she would join Ala-ud-din, but she was to come with 700 women as befitted her status. The Rajputs were thus able to infiltrate about 2000 men into Ala-ud-din's camp.. Ala-ud-din allowed Padmini one final meeting with her husband, which allowed the Rajputs to whisk Ratan Singh out from under the Khilji king's nose. Beaten, Ala-ud-din returned to Delhi, only to come back better equipped early the next year. The Rajput defence failed as a result of this second attack and, to a man, perished on the battlefield while their womenfolk, led by Maharani Padmini, performed Jauhar. The siege of Chittor, its brave defence by the Guhilas, the saga Padmini and the Jauhar she led are legendary. This incident has had a defining impact upon the Rajput character and is detailed in a succeeding section.

The man you saw running was the enemy king, he started the war that killed the women’s husbands and sons...and he did it all because he wanted to take the queen as his wife after he killed her husband. She was considered to be the most beautiful women in the world and he wanted her for himself. By choosing the fire the women made all that he had done to take that castle absolutely pointless. Then a war began between the rajputs and the invaders.... The actual practice is known as saka. It has two parts kesariya done by men and women commit jauhar. Both wear their marriage dress. Men wear kesariya headgear/safa. Women wear their marriage dress along with all jewellery. Saka is committed when defeat is certain and all belive that they will be together after death that's why their marriage dress. If kesariya and jauhar both takes place it is full saka. If only one takes place it's half saka. Death before dishonour....

You wanna know why you tear up on seeing these scenes??.. First of all it relates to religion, but don't take it in a offensive way.. think with logic and you will get what I say.... So Sanatan Dharma popularly known as Hinduism was the first religion, ever on this planet found in 2300 BCE..Yes for us its more like a way of life, than Religion, but still for easy understanding.. here I take it as religion.. No hate to any religion, but all other religions came up after that like the 2nd religion was Judaism which was found in 640 BCE...So think of it carefully... since the start of Hinduism till the day the 2nd religion was born.. Every person on this planet I mean our ancestors, were either a Hindu or Athiest.. Now The chances of being a Athiest in that era was very less.. still lets say 10% people were Athiests . so basically Almost every Non Hindu, has a past connected to Hinduism... somewhere in thier hearts, which were passed from their ancestors.. so scenes like this, will light up, the Hindu part of yours... It is called Sati System/ritual in which a woman used sacrifice her life voluntarily when her husband gets assassinated. In Rajasthan, its called Jauhar. This shows how much Indian woman used to love their husbands but now it hurts to see many Indian woman using nice guys and making them heartbroken. I do not want to be rude or condescending but modt Americans or Europeans do not have an indepth knowledge and understanding of South Asia. You must have learn't that Afghanistan has been conquered by the Taliban. This Afghanistan is the same Afghanistan where Khilji and his men were born, and from where they captured Delhi in India. These Khiljis were the ancesters of the present day Taliban and were far more ruthless, cruel and deceitful than the present day Taliban.
