Varun is extremely intelligent. He is an Engineer who briefly worked with a large IT Company and then chose to become poet, writer etc. His flavour of comedy is unique. Watch his stand-up on Demonetisation. He is very critical of current Govt, and rightly so. Varun and couple others do a great show called Aisi Tasi Democracy which involves music and stand-up.

That was totally wrong what these people said about Deepika and how they wanted to cut her nose and all. Actually there was a rumor back then that Ranveer and Deepika have an intimate scene in the film which Ranveer's character khilji imagines. So people were upset that a historical figure like Rani Padmavati was maligned by Sanjay Leela Bhansaliji, whom they actually worship like a goddess. I agree, whatever ruckus they created was totally wrong after hearing just a rumor. They should have waited for the film to be released before even protesting (peacefully).

Studying History is complicated. Many times you have to take account of poems and epics with other material. But in this case, Padmaavat epic is way different than actual history. The account of Queen Padmini did happen but not in this manner. That's why his standup doesn't hurt my sentiments because he clarified that he is commenting on the epic and the movie.
