The fact that we can still witness his brilliance on the mound this deep in his career is such a blessing. Keep playin', Yu. We still need you in the league.

Even though he lost on 2 runs here, he dominated the Dodgers all season, including Ohtani. The only Dodger who had a good BA against him was Tommy Edman and he could not get a hit against Darvish in this series. He threw insanely good games, but Yamamoto and the Dodger bullpen held the Padres to a handful of hits and 0 runs.

They rescued Ohtani from the Angels too. They rescued Teoscar from a career falling downhill fast. They seem to be good at that when there was a time the Dodgers were a place players came FROM greatness to show mediocrity. This offseason the Padres lost Hader, Snell, and Soto. You won the season series against the Dodgers, and you took us all the way to game 5. I know every fanbase has its bad eggs, and I’ll certainly get some slack from both sides for saying this but this season was thrilling. Don’t let anyone tell you that Dodgers and Padres aren’t a rivalry because they certainly are a worthy adversary 🤝.

A win like this is so special when even though Ohtani didn't hit that big homer that we may have anticipated, the pitching came to play, holding the Padres to 24 scoreless innings, and they got massive contributions from the bottom of their lineup. There's always something special and meaningful about getting to say "we didn't need to rely solely on out top guys to get the job done."
