I have only had to insert supraglottic airways like shown in the video a few times during codes. Although the tube is extremely painful if you are awake with one in place or when being placed, it is a critically needed life-saving medical tool.

*_Two decades ago I had an operation for a groin hernia and I thought I was supposed to be 100% under a general anesthetic. The strange thing is that I felt no surgery being performed but I could feel something in my throat the whole time choking me as though it was a hard obstruction. I never mentioned this to the anesthetist afterward as I wanted to get discharged and get home. I still wonder about this._*
@Petterwass
@Petterwass Жыл бұрын
Likely then, you were under a requisite amount of analgesics (painkillers) to render the surgery painless, but not enough anaesthesia to render you unconscious, which is a mistake on the anaesthesiologists part. Assming your were awake the entire time, and it is not just a impression when you were waking up?
@jean6872
@jean6872 Жыл бұрын
@@Petterwass I was awake the whole time, feeling frightened because I was choking with something in my throat. This was my second operation for the right side hernia. A month earlier I had the operation for the left side and felt no choking. The anesthetist was different in each case.
@Petterwass
@Petterwass Жыл бұрын
@@jean6872 Were you "awake" for the second one too (the best way to check is generally if the patient can repeat the coversation around them afterwards)? Because that's absolutely something you should tell them in case you have future surgery, so they know that you likely require hger doses than normal. Awareness, as it is called, is not something we want patients to have, unless we actually intend for it. Some surgery is done under sedation, then we obviosly want an awake patient but that does not sound like the case here. Some people, such a epilectics, alcoholics, red-heads and some other just simply burn through the anaesthesia medication much quicker.

If any interruptions at that state could really easily get someone killed, so a lot of props I think depends on the surgery i guess.

@fia_drums331
@fia_drums331 4 жыл бұрын
It can be cold as Room temperature is, but for me it never was cold. Yes, it burns but this is because it teases the veins. That’s why it is very important to inject propofol very slowly and/or give it alongside Lidocaine. Lidocaine numbs the veins and reduces the injection pain.

i have had anesthesia awareness happen multiple times and it is incredibly painful and scary to wake up while being operated on. ultimately, the doctors realized i needed a few additional meds like precedex to aid induction due to allergies to other anesthetics. propofol stings when it goes in and does not control pain, but it works great for most people and causes them to go to sleep in 60 seconds or less.

Croup prevents deep breathing airways. Unless of course,in case I were insane n wanted dead. Hard to discuss. Croup is an inflammation of the larynx n sometimes remains chronic in adults too. You have to perceive this state of fact. I was born blue, at 7 months. Resuscitated n rehabilitated to thriving on elbow crutches . I swim, I drive , n I can walk in the water . A. D. This crime. My life is ruined. I love my child.

@technisis3631

If the eye lids naturally open during the procedure, dust and other air pollutants will reach the eye and cause irritation and/or dryness once anesthetics have worn off. It is a inconvenience for the patient. Another reason is to protect the outer layer of the eye.

Its safer to have IV access first, and you gave give a better anaesthesia through it as well as a better induction. Children can't always be reasoned with when it comes to pain, so often we do it the opposte way for them. That is not needed for adults, who can understand the importance of IV access and who won't panic and start to fight over a needle, as a child would.

@@A.97-k4w I've had anesthesia 5 times too. Last time I came to the operation room (no mum😢) and lied down. They gave me the mask and told me to breathe several times deeply. I started getting sleepy and fell asleep. ( the oxygen in the mask smelled like mint, chocolate and something else. It was sweet). I don't remember anything, but when I woke up I felt exhausted and I had a sore throat (that's because of the pipe or whatever they put to the boy's mouth after the mask.) The worst thing is coming after the surgery. You have to eat, but you don't want to, you're sleepy and the throat hurts. You may say something that makes no sense, but I didn't actually. After a few hours you will feel better. (you must not eat anything before surgery, it may cause nausea) Of course it is scary before ( I've had 5 surgeries but was scared every time. Even now I'm shaking 😥). But there's nothing to fear. Hope you will get well ☺️

Paediatrics is the normal spelling but Americans have trouble with spelling. It's the same with 'our' words like colour, flavour etc.

@@MrCrowebobby Please don't use that condescending, hubris filled phrase "educate yourself". The spelling of words like paediatrics is pretty uniform in English speaking countries and uniquely different in the US. That's the point I was making.

@@peterd788 Saying we have trouble with spelling implies we're spelling it wrong. We're not, we're simply using the American spelling, which is just a correct as the English spelling. I'm not a patriot in any sense of the word, but this is a simple fact.
