Applying firm, steady upward pressure at a 45-degree angle, the curved laryngoscope is used to lift the epiglottis and expose the vocal cords. Once the glottis is visualized, the operator will ask the respiratory assistant to place the endotracheal tube with the malleable stylet on the operator's right hand

She looks really peaceful asleep tho in till the doctor shoved that huge tube down her throat

@@BeckyBeaglethis is a normal protocol for intubation, nothing rough about it. Spend some time in an emergency department or operating room and you’ll see.

Could someone explain to me why is it important to maintain cricoid pressure?
@diio_rio Жыл бұрын
i think to prevent aspiration of gastric contents
@Petterwass Жыл бұрын
I it believed so, though IIRC the evidence is quite weak for it and in many countries it is no longer recommended@@diio_rio

they also do that aneathesia variant to put someone to sleep for medical procedures like surgery when the patient may have a full stomach and is at risk for choking on food vomited up, which is called aspiraton pneumonia. i had that done a few weeks ago for surgery when i could not be npo a full 8 hours prior due to needing to treat a low blood glucose level in december. Having cared for individuals with aspiration pneumonia, I know is really hard to treat and sadly, it frequently has terrible or deadly outcomes.
