+John Huldt Seriously. I can barely do an imitation of the piece on an electric and you pull this on an acoustic using fingerpicked harmonics and whatnot. Though I have a pretty stupid pinky that I can't for the life of me curl without having the ring finger tag along, so that makes plenty of things even more difficult then they should be. Everyone I've seen who plays this good never seems to have this problem, so I assume it's the same with you.
@johnhuldt8 жыл бұрын
I had the exact same problem when I started playing. You just have to refuse letting it hinder your playing and eventually it will go away :)
@TLguitar8 жыл бұрын
John Huldt I've been playing for more than 7 years now, I doubt it's something you can practice out of. I read that some (maybe even most, I don't know) people share a tendon between their ring finger and their pinky; I don't know exactly how it works (or doesn't work), but I can curl my RF independently just fine yet when curling the pinky, the RF almost mirrors its movement: if I curl my pinky onto its lowest crease, the RF curls about half-way; if I curl my pinky into the palm itself, the RF curls along perhaps 85% of the way. My father doesn't have this issue but my mother does, and I, one brother and my sister seem to have it, while another brother can curl it independently just fine (I'm the only one who plays an instrument). It's quite an issue because it makes my pinky feel rigid and stiff, and I started getting pains when playing all sorts of phrases.
@johnhuldt8 жыл бұрын
Yeah I had the same thing. I couldn't move the pinky and ring finger independently. I also can't raise the pinky on my left hand if I keep the rest of the fingers closed.

2:58 are you getting that sound by using your wrist to mute the strings? 3:17 wow you do those pinched harmonics so well! I don't use a pick so idk how much easier that makes it, I love that your harmonics go off the frets
@xxstfubmx2 жыл бұрын
The pinches look way more complicated, but it's not a ph. It's a harp monic you just match whatever fret oct above and lightly pick with your thumbnail and touch the fret wire. Look up ted green tutorials. He's the master of it, and it is easy with a bit of understanding easier than a pinch in like metal

Amazing job, world-class. Did you base your arrangement on the version for electric guitar by Michael Fath? His tab was published in a guitar magazine in the early 90s and put this song on the map for a lot more guitar players. Here's the man himself: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m5TVlX96rsSBp9k I think yours is a whole lot more listenable ... and all the more impressive played on an acoustic.
