AMYGDALA is very autobiographical. His mom had to have heart surgery right after his birth & he lived with his grandmother. He was out of South Korea with BTS when he was called about his dad’s liver cancer. The accident happened & he lived with shoulder pain thru his career &finally got surgery in 2020 during Covid. In his late teens, he developed social anxiety & OCD & went into therapy & was put on medication. This song & mv is part of his working to put that pain in the past & as he says “bloom like a lotus out of the mud”. The song is also inspired by a book “Almond” about a young man who has an under developed amygdala.

The amygdala is the part of our brains that allows us encode memories, process emotions, and identify and defend ourselves from frightening or threatening stimuli. So in the song he’s essentially begging his brain to forget the pain and fear he’s experienced. Everything is true. Starting from the accident he had when he was a trainee, he was working as delivery guy but than one day he had an car accident. His mom's heart surgery and him getting to about his now father's liver cancer during one of his schedule. He is the strongest person I've ever knew. One of the reasons he is my bias.. 😭 (also sorry for my bad englsh. English is not my first language)

Yoongi worked as a delivery boy at the same time he joined Big Hit, yeeaaars ago. His shoulder was heavily injured due to this accident, but he didn't want to tell the company because he was afraid of getting fired. He finally could get surgery on 2020. He has talked about this before, for example, in his song "The Last" ("I debuted holding onto my fucking crushed shoulder thanks to the accident on my part-time delivery job") and on their show Burn The Stage Ep.3. He's had many personal struggles (related to mental health and his family) that he's shared through the years, and many of them are represented on his song Amygdala. What you mentioned about color scheme of Amygdala's is really interesting, because it really is a contrast in comparison to his past videos. He did a livestream today in which he shared that he made this album because can't change his past, and that he needed to forgive himself. It's deeply personal and I'm super proud of him, because being vulnerable like this in front of the world must not be something easy. Thank you for your reaction Pagan!!

Yeah so referring to the scooter accident. Yoongi got into an accident during his trainee days because Big Hit had no money. Because of this, it led to a massive shoulder injury that he didn’t even tell his members or the company in fear of not debuting. He finally got that surgery in 2020. And of course everything else in those lyrics are real. Yoongi is truly so strong for going through all that…

"Amygdala" tells Yoongis story.... how he got the "scar" while fighting "himself" and also the accident he had while working as a delivery man (yes that happened) (also that's why he had problems with his shoulder in the past). And the lyrics are so heartbreaking ;-; ... he's such a strong human being, I really admire him for the things he had to go trough to be where he is now..
@jahnvisharma2415 Жыл бұрын
yes yoongi himself said to watch daechwita, haegeum and amygdala in sequence and also whatever he mentioned in lyrics, everything happened with him in real life.... he got in an accident before BTS debuted, and he also had shoulder surgery and he didn't tell about this to anyone like he said in the lyrics..... everything he mentioned is 200% real..... AMYGDALA was just too much for me coz I cried 4 times watching the MV + lyrics, coz I was getting to know about his pain in the past and I am 20 years old, I can also relate to it, coz I went through a lot too and I still cannot forget it and that's what you can see in the MV, how desperate yoongi was to open the door and get out of his bad memories and the lyrics were like "MY AMYGDALA PLEASE SAVE ME, MY AMYGDALA PLEASE LET ME OUT" , but in the end he was still lying on the floor with his memories, coz door never opened but memories are past, and bad memories are part of past too which makes your present self possible, if you change anything from past your present will be a different thing, the lines "SO, IS ALL THIS COUNTLESS SUFFERING FOR MY OWN GOOD? WHAT DIDN'T KILL ME ONLY MADE ME STRONGER AND I BEGIN TO BLOOM LIKE A LOTUS FLOWER AGAIN" these lines implies that whatever happened in my past, it happened for my good, for my better present..... but still knowing all this when ugly memories trigger, you just want to get out of it soo desperately, you can see yoongi crawling in the end so that the door opens and he can get out his bad memories but he cannot, that's how MV ends and this is how I see this MV aka MASTERPIECE, I was able to relate to it this way only based on my past and experiences but after watching yoongi I wanted to hug him and give him comfort coz Oh my gawwd he went through a lot, watching him made me think that I am not the only one in this world, we all go through pain and this is what life is all about.... I personally think his heart needs to be protected coz it's soft, of course he is strong but his heart is warm and soft...... I want to thank him for trusting us, sharing his vulnerable side with us... it's a big deal sharing your pain in front of the world... I love yoongi , and I admire him as an artist and as a beautiful human being with beautiful and warm heart 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

The Amygdala is not really controlling emotions however it is mainly known as the center of fears. It's very active in moments of fear. For this song it does make perfect sense, really fitting. Basically telling his brain to stop torturing himself with all those bad situations.

Hi it’s amiieeee from ur twitch. Imma explain some stuff based on my knowledge Amygalda is based on all true events. The amygdala is commonly thought to form the core of a neural system for processing fearful and threatening stimuli ), including detection of threat and activation of appropriate fear-related behaviors in response to threatening or dangerous stimuli. Suga says amygalda is -There’s a thing called an ‘amygdala.’ Your brain stores all of your unpleasant memories in the amygdala Yoongi was in a car accident predebut which destroyed his shoulder (quite literally the wheel was on his shoulder) and he hid it from the company as he didn’t want to be kicked from bts (also the Reason he isn’t in the dance line) and only in 2020 did he finally get it treated with surgery and rehab. The pills are antidepressants since he was extremely depressed Suga is known as an idol who used to be su1ci1dal and in his song in “the last” he covers this he has had several attempts. He had/has diagnosed OCD ADHD Depression and social anxiety. He talks openly about topics such as struggle being open with family and friends and saying he didn’t know who he was back then. He is amazing for talking about such a taboo topic. Many people interpret the scar differently imo it’s him showing bothe his external and internal scars from us. (Also a representation of s31f h@rm) I think he is a very amazing person. Him getting up and trying Makes me happy and “the last” was a very relatable song. It’s amazing to see his growth now. I have heard many stories of suga dealing with depression and some things that have made me really sad are him in a concert in Japan. He basically had a really horrible anxiety attack and locked himself in the bathroom. I’m pretty sure he was very terrified. He then left the room and apparently he went back to Korea. However no one knew why suga wasn’t in the concert and were mad. I’m pretty sure he flew back to Japan and sent a public apology+ took pictures next to the stadium. Anyway AGUST D GROWTH! He said -I have massive mood swings whenever I’m working on this song. To work on it, I have to bring up some of my unpleasant memories. But this is actually a very important process to learn to control those memories I cry every time I listen to one of his songs lol 😅😅 oongi referring to himself as a lotus flower that blooms after he describes in Amygdala is so meaningful bc lotus flowers bloom beautifully despite being in muddy waters. This is exactly what Yoongi did - he wasn’t in an “ideal” environment to grow and thrive, but he still did. Ur right about the different personas. This song will probs be his last as agust d as he says agust d was for him to vent about haters and the world. However he has matured and no longer feels anger
@DoctorStrange01 Жыл бұрын
This all happened. He was struggling mentally a lot in younger days. The accident happened because he was working in food delivery as a trainee cause he didn't have money. After getting hit by a car and messing up his shoulder badly, he didn't tell the company cause he was scared he will get kicked out. Pills are probably anti-depressants since he had depression and anxiety (no wonder knowing his life back then).

The Agust D trilogy is actually three albums: Agust D, D-2 & D-day. For reference: the music video "Agust D" shows the blonde, original version of himself who then goes on to become the king in Daechwita. He is the killed by the scarred, black-haired Agust D who is the cop in Haegeum... who eventually gets killed by the latest version of Agust D. My interpretation is that every version represents a dark part of Yoongi and his past that he lays to rest with every album, sort of saying goodbye to his trauma or vices etc. I could be completely wrong but I really love how cinematic he is. Love your reactions by the way 💜

I love all the songs though. But these for some reason made me feel more. When i heard this for the 1st time i smiled. This MV speaks his truth. I am glad Suga talked about it more. I think the more u speak about it the easier it gets as the years pass. I am sorry he went through so much. I am sad he did not reach the door. I think this song is tricky. I think the MV enhanced the song a lot for me. Good visuals. Loved the feels. I am an empath so i take it in. Suga was sharing his trauma, his painful memories. I was not aware his mom had heart surgery or that his dad battled cancer. I wonder if his bike accident occured in the same year as everything else. We know Suga survived it was a miracle. He had a dislocated shoulder that he kept hidden from the agency. He had mental health issues from trainee days. He writes about his story in earlier songs. U should listen to his 2 mixtapes. Both are great. He injured his already damaged shoulder later on after debut. They advised him to get surgery. He held off until 2020 when his shoulder gave out completely. Yoongi dealt with so much pain for so long. We were all so glad he finally had the surgery. He was doing rehab 6 months maybe longer. The guys missed him so much. The more u watch the more u will learn their stories. They are so strong all of them. They are our strength and we theirs. my interpretation is that the suga with the scar is the trauma that is haunting him. in the last videos he tried to kill him (get rid of his trauma) but truth is, it will never truly die. so here he is locked in a room, reliving his trauma again and again, not able to leave the room. the natural response is to try to kill the trauma, but it rather be leaving the room, outside trying to find peace, instead of locking it away. also yes, the accident really happened. it was predebut when he was a trainee and had a delivery job on the side. but he couldnt tell about the accident and even the members didnt know about it until years later. he perfomed all these years with an injured shoulder and having pain while dancing of course. I think 2021 (?) he finally got surgery and can finally perform without pain

I never thought he would connect 3 MVs together. 0.0 That is brilliant. Suga is such a genius. I love it. Suga during the premier said to listen to Daechwita, Haegeum, and Amygdala. So that's what i am going to do. Powerful song. I like that we continue the story from Daechwita. But this song is more violent. Geez. He is such a savage! I liked it. Good rhythm. Suga is a visual. Excited to rewatch the MVs in order like he suggested. Good spotting the Joker reference i missed that. Ur reaction was many of us. He is such a boss! Hugs. -NY USA 2019 Army 💟 Borahae ARMY *KEZ* said on 4/21/23 So Haegeum means allowing/unlocking something that was forbidden. His whole album is overflowing with his emotions, and not only does he talk to himself in his album, he talks directly to the listener (especially with one particular song, where it almost feels like he breaks the 'fourth wall'. I've experienced it via a movie before, but never by song, until now) there are ARMY translator accounts on Twitter, so if you want to listen to his album on Spotify or Apple music etc, you can have the lyrics pulled up to help you understand what he is expressing 💜 ScreamCheeese said on 4/21/23 Haegeum also means “to liberate” or “to release” from bans, restraints, or something forbidden. You also really need to see Daechwita!! You’ll understand a lot more of this MV and it’s just as amazing! Just a movie-like. Min Yoongi is a genius for a reason 😩 Plants healing said on 4/21/23 Haegeum has two meanings. The first is a traditional Korean stringed instrument used in this music "this song's a haegeum", and the second, as the lyrics say, "a new kind of haegeum" means "unlock". Yoongi uses both haegeum in his lyrics. Addison McDorman said on 4/22/23 Haegeum: the English lyrics & the meaning. Haegeum is a song about unlocking our new potentials, freeing something previously forbidden. The word “Haegeum” has a double meaning. On one side, it’s a traditional Korean string instrument that has a very peculiar sound, but this is not the authentic meaning Agust D/Suga intended originally. Haegeum” means “allowing/unlocking something that was forbidden.” Here is how he explained it in an interview: The word “Haegeum” came to me when I was young. I played rhythm games, I loved rhythm action games. When beating a certain stage, you’d unlock a forbidden song, then you could play a new rhythm. It was a “freedom from the forbidden.” Why don’t I try and break free from those things? This is explicitly confirmed by the English translation of the lyrics in Haegeum: This song’s simply about freeing what’s forbidden but you must remember to differentiate freedom from self-indulgence This song’s a haegeum Get on board now This lively rhythm A new kind of haegeum Marissa McWhiter said on 4/22/23 The second meaning of haegeum is the lifting of the ban of something forbidden. Adding what I think the story is based on things I’ve heard from other reactors...commentaries and what he said in the d-day documentary. First of all he did say in his intro of the video during the premiere that this video is the second of a trilogy. He said the three videos meant to be seen together is Daechwita, haegeum and amygdala ...which is coming up! So I believe the king in Daechwita, the first form of august D, was killed by black haired scar face agust D. But then black hair becomes the boss in Haegeum. He seems to be a police detective or officer that is corrupt. He runs his operation from above the Asian noodle restaurant. New Agust d wants to kill him too! Maybe like in Daechwita it’s because of his corruption. So he invades the headquarters and gets his money. On his way out we see a guy making a phone call to the boss...but new agust d gives him a nod. So I think just like in Daechwita new agust d has a deal with this insider to help him kill the boss. So this new guy didn’t really want the money it was just a bait to get him close to the boss. So like in Daechwita, as he was about to be killed he switches the story and kills the Boss instead. Before the boss gets shot we see the boss smirk. I saw a comment that this could be because he knows that this New guy will also meet his fate! So in the end new guy was accepted by the boss’ men and he was delivered to their headquarters the restaurant where he takes over. The final Shot of him eating with the tool he used to kill a man suggests that the violence will sustain him. So now we will wait for amygdala to see how the story ends! So the song itself was explained by Suga in the documentary. He explains that as idols there are a lot of things they seem to be restricted from doing, acts that are normal for some will become controversies for idols. Like if his smoking at the age of 31 will be seen as wrong then he wants this song to be the start of liberating or lifting some of the restrictions put on them. He also talked about the effect on too much information and how easy to get them also starts to restrict thinking. It’s a very deep song! The funny thing is...this song has triggered a bit of hate from kpop on social media! Fans of other groups are thinking Yoongi was targeting them...or even saying he shouldn’t be against capitalism since he is from Hybe! Lol totally missing the point of the song...or maybe just proving Yoongi’s observations! He’s a genius! The rest of the album is genius! I hope you do an album reaction! Mic mic bungee said on 4/22/23 what's amazing is that in the MV, hanja 解禁 was on the screen which = haegeum, in terms of "to lift a ban" not 奚琴 = haegeum the instrument. WHICH MAKES SO MUCH MORE SENSE because the lyrics talk a lot about judgement, prejudice, and being free from all that. something about it is so raw, and honestly, i feel like it's a big fu to those who try to "cancel" grown idols for doing something normal humans do, like him "smoking" in the MV or just dating, or any issues some fans can't accept. "This song is a haegeum" meaning this song is targeting kpop "fans" who always make a big deal out of things that are not even supposed to be controversial HE'S SO ICONIC FOR THIS. Steve Blevins said on 4/25/23 Please note the split-second image of a hand holding almonds at 13:36. Amygdala feels like him talking to himself. "I don't even know your name". Is he Yoongi. Is he Suga. Is he Agust D. Singer, rapper, producer, son? His accident happened in the rain if I remember correctly so I think he probably is referencing lying there in pain waiting for the ambulance. He's begging his mind to erase the bad memories because they are keeping him trapped. I know the problem with his shoulder from the accident has made things very painful for him and why he is going into a different branch for his required military service. Maybe the running back to the house was that "if I knew then" type moment where you would change it if you could, but he can't and therefore is trapped outside. The past is the past and we can't change it no matter what. It is very sad.
