We stayed overnight there last month in one of their deluxe rooms. We were pleasantly surprised how nice our experience was. Zero bugs, AC worked & smelled great. No musty odors. Room was updated. Beautiful well-maintained landscaping, room was very well equipped. It's worth paying the extra $20 for a bigger room.

My family stayed at SOB once when I was an older teenager (so maybe almost 20 years ago) and I still remember the experience! Watching all your videos I'm always amazed at how chill Gracie is. The fact you can have her outside off the leash and have your room door hanging wide open and she just hangs out. My dogs try to bolt out the door and take off running like we are holding them prisoner against their will! I could never let them outside without a leash.. lol

Nate...just wanted to say thank you for this video. My family just lost our family Golden Retriever Chief yesterday suddenly and I think we are all still in shock. I appreciate the time you are spending with Gracie, your relationship reminds me of what ours was with Chief and this video just helped me feel some form of comfort for a few minutes. We’ve always had cats, but gotta say dogs are amazing. Was in a lovely shop today, a cute dog came in with her people, and she was freaking out, no one knew why. Until it turned out there was a dog treat drawer behind the counter. Turns out she’d been there once before, a long time ago. Cute, and very smart.

Happy Holidays Everyone! Hi Nate! Back in '79 on my way to Disney from my home in DC, I stayed at that motel. It was fantastic! My best memory is the lighted pool at night with my friends. Nate. Great video. I travel your route to my home in PA as well. I’m coming from Savannah GA. Depending on where in PA you are going, I take I 64 west in Richmond to I 81 and take I81 north all the way up to the Pine Grove exit. Way better, relaxing ride rather than going through DC metro area. Safe travels.

South of the Border is now a roadside eye sore, my family that drove down from Philadelphia every year to Orlando and their marker the first night was SOTB, in those days (the 60') it was kept up cheap and clean, had a decent restaurant and a shop with junk souvenirs. They raved about how they loved to stay there. Now it's a roach infested flea bag motel.

I love this place. First time I was there was 1972. Stayed there several times in the 80's and 90's. Just stopped there again this past Sept. They used to have good restaurants and even had casinos for a while. Also stayed there with my 2 kids AND my Dalmation. (named Dice) Post office is gone.

As a kid my family traveled to Florida many times in the 1950's. South of the Border was a 20 X 20' shack on the north side of rt # 301. They sold cold drinks and fireworks. As you were inside, kids came around from the back and placed a South of the Border sticker on your bumper.

You know, Nate… This was pretty normal roadside lodging for decades. They’re bare bones. Usually they are little worn down. But, millions of people have stayed in them over the last 60-50 years. They are not as nice as some of the high end properties you’ve been privy to over the last few years, but they get the job done. We stayed in this type motel all the time as a kid growing up in the 70’s and 80’s. I even stayed in them with my wife and kids through the 90’s and early 2000’s. In some small towns… this is all there is.

I live about an hour from South Of The Border. I like going down to Buc-ee's in Florence, SC then on the way home I stop by and check out the gift shops. It's so sad that you rarely see more than a few cars at a time there.

We stayed at that motel at South of the Border around 1991 and it was a little better but started to get run down. We did like the pool. My son was about 11 and really loved the pool. Oh, they had waterbeds in some of the rooms and we got one, just for fun. I kind of got seasick, didn't like it. When, we lived in Virginia and Maryland for 4 years we drove down to Florida at least once a year to visit my husband's family in Jacksonville. Then when we lived in the Orlando area, we drove back up to the DC area to visit my family. So, South of the Border was a great place to stop. We moved out west in 2003 and have not driven that way since.

Nate, you are a brave soul staying at South of the Border! Back in the late 90’s my now late husband and I ended up staying there because he didn’t book a hotel room as he promised. With exhaustion setting in, we stopped. I was not pleased then. The room we had was in a late 50’s early 60’s A-frame style. As a joke he got a “honeymoon room “🤦🏼‍♀️. It had a king bed with what looked liked a big carpeted packman over the bed. There was a TV and mirrors in that “thing”. I slept, clothes on, with my head at the foot of the bed as the carpeted thing was creepy and gross. Sigh. We have enjoyed your 12 Days till Christmas Vlogs! Such fun getting to know you even more.
