Questionable call? A nice thing about the womans game is it's so slow it's easy to see the fouls. Not only was the offensive player moving her feet before, during, through and after contact, but she extended her arms to block the upper body of the defender, hitting her with her extended arms. Easy call and had to be made.

Classy response ladies, and good game. Good example here for all, real players don’t wast their breath complaining about calls, they get on with what they can control. There will be plenty of others lining up to criticize refs calling an off ball offensive foul 45 ft from the rim with 4 secs to go in a hard fought and very close game.

Yes, it's probably time we took some time to recognize the class this team has exhibited throughout the season. Every single game they went into down the stretch there was a mixture of optimism and pessimism from various sources. But, not from the players. Their will to get the job done despite all odds will be the memory we will always have of this team. Once the dust clears and eyes are bright once again, this team will be regarded as ONE OF THE FINEST TEAMS IN UCONN HISTORY. In behalf of all UCONN fans, we truly loved you and we will never forget you.

Sometimes refs let fouls go in the final seconds. If there had been A no call & the Huskies won..then the other team would have a equal gripe about it. Also Unfortunately there is an interest in the best storylines to happen in $ports, so like in boxing, you really don't want to leave it up to the judges.

The nerve of that ref to call that foul at that part of the game. During those first 39 minutes of basketball many more obvious fouls went uncalled but the ref saw a need to decide the outcome of the game, unbelievable and it just shows how sports have become so scripted sense online betting has come into sports. The NCAA also wanted iowa and s.carolina for the ratings at the expense of uconn.

That was a legit call but it usually doesn't get called in that moment, right or wrong. But if it comes down to one play at the end, that means that there were a lot of missed plays earlier in the game. I think everyone would have preferred seeing UConn at least putting up a shot attempt because of how hard they fought back. They handled the 'L' WAY better than other players and teams. Much respect! Keep your heads up ladies.

@@rosacarroll6977 well, the refs weren't the reason that UConn was in that position to begin with. I won't deny any theory that the NCAA would prefer Iowa to win, though UConn isn't a bad team to move on to the next level either with their history and fan base. And then there is any gambling possibility that might have potentially influenced the outcome. But again, if the Huskies were up by 10 points at that time, that call wouldn't have altered the outcome whatsoever.

It's all about the dough! South Carolina is already in so which matchup fills more seats and attracts more viewers? USC vs Iowa is the revenge game. Iowa knocked them out of playing the title game and ended their undefeated season last year plus Caitlin Clark is the biggest thing since sliced bread this season. Nobody gave UConn a chance to make it this far with a depleted roster let alone defeat USC to whom they have already lost when they still had Aubrey Griffin and others. How many besides the faithful are going to watch what is considered to be a fore gone conclusion? So how do you influence the outcome? Officiating, foul calls and penalty shots are the only option short of bribery. Is there any evidence of such a bold assumption? Without free throws UConn wins by five points. UConn is accessed with eighteen fouls but Iowa only nine. Quite a difference in such a closely played game. But the penalty shot difference is even more one sided. UConn shoots only four free throws while Iowa is rewarded with fourteen. They make three and ten respectively. That gives Iowa a two point win and the questionable call at the end to preserve the desired outcome.

UCONN gave up a strong lead. With all that went on in the game it is questionable the foul should have been called. Great game though I was so on the edge the last 5 minutes. That's why I like college BB.

There is nothing questionable about the call. It's an obvious, blatant illegal screen and offensive foul and there is no reason whatsoever to not call it. For the "let the players decide, not the refs" faction the proper response is: Which players are you talking about? Do you mean the defensive player legally trying to stay with her opponent? Or do the rules of the game get suspended in the last few seconds of a close game for just the offense, and do you gift them an open shot obtained by an uncalled illegal screen and offensive foul? My response is the players did decide - Marshall decided it with her tenacious defense, and Edwards and Bueckers decided it by not running a routine screen play properly and then attempting an illegal screen and committing an offensive foul. And they did it right in front of the referee who properly called it immediately, without any hesitation. Suspending the normal call of an obvious offensive foul in the last seconds doubly penalizes the defense. Proper defense can only prevent a score, but the offense can win if they score as a result of a no-call offensive foul. As for the play itself, neither Bueckers or Edwards ran it properly. Edwards never attempted to set a real screen. While in constant motion, she stepped into Marshall, and pushing off with her back leg, brought her arms up and elbowed Marshall in the chest, using the leg drive and the push with her arms to push her off of Bueckers. Bueckers, for her part, went out too high on the court instead of taking Marshall sideways, then cut too quickly, not giving Edwards time to set her feet, and her cut was too far away from Edwards. The proper way to run that is to cut as close as possible to the screener and force the defensive player into the screener's chest. Being so far away from Edwards forced Edwards to move into Marshall and that is the illegal, moving screen, which she then compounded by using her arms and elbow to shove Marshall. Championship teams execute properly at crunch time. Uconn did not.
