Do you mean callous or actual blister? I've never heard of a blister forming inside the lower lip and I've seen a LOT of players and students, but soreness and callouses yes. The cigarette paper is a good solution and many players and teachers, for example Joe Allard, recommended the same thing probably 70 or 80 years ago. I've done the same thing occasionally over the years, even saw Eddie Daniels use that trick 45 years ago. And having been a Joe Allard student Eddie likely got the idea from Joe.

Yes, callous indeed! I’ve always called it blister, sorry for my English in this case. Yes, the cigarette paper trick is so great😀

Is it wise to force training with out the paper

If you try to play through the pain it will take longer to recover the day after :)

Best solution ever. I have a 5 hour solo gig and I have sore lips from my last gig.

It is great, isn't it? Those long gigs are the worst, I know! Now you can play for longer!! YEY!

@@LondonSaxophoneSchool I tried rehearsing with this hack yesterday only challenge I got is too much saliva makes it so wet it wants to fall off. What to do?

You might need to experiment with finding the right size for you. It takes few tries to get used to it... persevere and you will get used to it eventually😀

Also, if you are doing that 5hr gig you will need to replace the lip protector many times as it tends to break after a while
