Thank you for sharing your story, Hardeep! This is one of the best I’ve listened to so far. Not only do I have chronic throat pain (as well as upper digestive pain and allergy & sinus issues) I can TOTALLY relate to your fearful, worrying, hard-driving, high achieving personality traits. I literally worry (and WORK!) myself sick every single day. I feel like if you can learn to break the cycle, then so can I.

Oh wow. This is inspiring. I’ve been working with some form of TMS for years and years and have had some success but in the last 6 months have had debilitating sciatica/foot and pelvic issues. When you mentioned towards the middle of the video that it seemed like his subconsciously reacted to pressure to perform, I felt a light bulb go on. And it’s so weird because I was literally praying for answers and hearing the word “pressure” all day long. Pressure to perform is a HUGE trigger for me but I didn’t realize that my subconscious was picking that up as a danger signal! I have noticed a feeling of anger and resentment when someone expects something from me because I fear that I will have to perform and I feel panicked. Oof. Good stuff. Thank you!
@AtHomeWithLulu2 жыл бұрын
I really appreciated Hardeep’s story. I identify so much with the pressure to perform that he perceived coming from his parents as well as the pressure he put on himself in adulthood. Thank you, Hardeep for your honesty and vulnerability!

WoW. Just wow. The pressure to perform, related to original childhood trauma is also what seems to trigger my brain 🧠 and therefore giving me disabling pains /symptoms for almost 18 years now.. although I connected the dots on a conscious level, and that feels great .. reading your comment makes me realize that now the only thing I have to put in place is getting that safety message into my unconscious brain.. knowing that I can be in control of the amount of pressure people and myself put on me, and that pressure doesn’t mean danger and pain.I feel the same anger you describe when there is a real or imagined pressure put on me.I will start to tell myself every time I feel that anger: calm down, it’s just an old pattern you follow here, don’t do that, I’m stronger through what I lived in the past, I choose to let go of this so called pressure and go on living my life in alignment with my true self, so brain there is no danger, you can stop sending these protective pain signals, they are not needed anymore.. I’m gonna continue in a more relaxed way with what I’m doing now etc.. I hope my English was good enough to express what I felt after reading your beautiful comment ! And I’m sure you will see that bright light at the end of your tunnel soon. So that the severe pain can become a memory of your/ our past and the strength we got out of this hell serves us to create a wonderful future and heaven on earth ! All the best with your healing ❤️🩹

Hardeep and Dan thank you for this. Hardeep our stories are so similar. I am a teacher, taught public speaking to others and a mental health therapist First my throat pain started, but led to difficulty swallowing, reflux, feeling like I was choking all the time and loss of voice. At one point I had 30 different symptoms. I went through about six months of hell. Doctors thought it was LPR, ENT saw damage to my throat on exam, another ENT thought it was muscle tension dysphonia and I almost went for surgery like you. I thankfully first found Sarno, then Schubiner, Gordon and then ended up taking PRT training myself. I now work in a pain clinic seeing clients every day who have had similar journeys with chronic pain and chronic symptoms, but this video is the first time I have heard from someone who has a similar story as a public speaker with throat issues related to neuroplastic symptoms. I should add that Dan's videos were an early significant find for me on my own journey that helped bring a lot of healing and comfort for me. Thank you both!!!

Initiating the pain response--that's when I really started making quick progress. I struggled with chronic lower back pain for 2 years. After reading Dr. Sarno's book and watching Dan's videos, I began intentionally bending or leaning over because I knew it would trigger the pain and then I would just hang out there and coach myself, reminding myself that I couldn't stay in this position if there was something genuinely wrong with my body. I was safe. It was all in my brain, there was nothing physcially wrong with my bones or nerves or tissue. I would curiously explore the pain and think of shapes or visions that it felt similar to. In my lower back, it would feel like sparkly champagne or bubbles and in the shape of a coral reef or a balloon. This helped my unconscious view the sensations as light and playful and totally harmless. It took only a few days of doing this maybe 5 times a day to pretty much entirely eradicate the pain that I was intentionally triggering. I've had some lingering minor pain in my hips, but now I'm applying the same method to that area and I'm starting to see progress. It's only been a few days, but I'm 100% confident in what I'm doing.

Pain or symptoms is signal to conscious that unconscious has perceived something as danger. Job of conscious is to inspect it without panicking and report that everything is well, to unconscious. But unconscious mind is like 4-5 year old child who learn by repetition. It need numerous examples to learn even basic thing. Luckily, Super power of this child is that they never forget anything once learned. This is my preliminary understanding of TMS from this video.
