Brought back bloody horrible memories of me doing pretty much the same and i recall the deathnail was adding the HP at the end. I'd become complacment and left the PP in one time out of many in which it's previously been 100% fine.... the absolute biggest takeaway is do not walk away from your pond when your treating with PP. Very brave of you to post the update so fresh after it happened ...i know when something goes wrong it can become a blur when your trying your best and emotionally the tank will be empty for some time. I made a vow to make sure I looked after my koi no matter and 2 years later i closed my pond but had karma as they went to a knowledgable buyer who had a great setup. You seem like a good lad, so i can only wish you the best ... hopefully you'll still with it and get quite a few jumbo tosai end of March 2023 and enjoy them really growing. BTW I know HP neutralises the PP treatment ...but if your fish are floating and absolutely on their last legs i'm still not sure if the best solution is to put those koi quickly into a seperate vat of water which could be aerated.....rather than throwing in HP which strips loads more oxygen from the water. ....and invariably will kill a koi that's at the very limit of hanging onto life.

I still can clear as the light of day remember every bit of the disaster 2 years on... i don't know ...make a plaque to remember the koi, or a painting, or plant a tree or ...buy a punch bag whenever the memory comes back. But the truth is the rest of the koi will get over it ..so will you ...as the world just carries on regardless.... just take some time for yourself to aid recovery.

In the past, British predecessors visited KOI breeders and brought back a lot of things they had seen and spread, but strong fungicides such as PP are used only by people with a certain level of experience or advanced skills, and are not common chemicals used by everyone in Japan, as they are in the UK. I think it's a bit too easy for too many people to use them. In Japan, it is recommended to use salt at key points during the season, or to implement a balanced annual schedule without frequent KOI purchases to avoid using such agents as much as possible.
@koifishjohnny2 жыл бұрын

@@koifishjohnny I'm going to go to a bit of an extreme here, but I don't think British hobbyists should refer too much to what their Nishikigoi predecessors said. I think I'd rather have a lot of reference to carp farmers in various parts of the UK because they have more in common.

On 11k litres I'd add 22g as a standard dose that's 2ppm I've dosed up to 4ppm and that I had to neutralise which would be the equivalent of 44g on your pond .. I'm not sure whats happened with your measurement because in oz you wouldn't have had enough in that bag ... the only thing I cam think is you've read 126g as 12.6 that would be possible with a bag of pp that size

This will all be a distant (bad) memory soon. Sorry about this Johnny. My only recommendation is to always have a known weight - can be anything like a stone or something that is similar to the weight you are dosing. Might sound daft Johnny, but have you tried rein acting weighing out the power to what looks like how much you used? I'm not totally convinced that it's purely down to yourself overdosing with PP. PP is usually used anywhere from 1.5ppm right up to 4ppm which by your calculations would be 44g at the top end. How warm is/was your pond water? could have been down to severe Oxygen depletion if the water was relatively warm before hand. Just a thought anyway buddy, absolutely devastated for you. Nice to see you being transparent about the situation and I hate to think how I would feel in your situation. 😥

What can I say mate , s@!£ happens , but I’m not going to never mind/it happens/ not your fault etc , just respect for showing it , but some key points to consider are , you have done this a few times before so if the dose was to much , I would of thought something would of clicked when you saw the amount , so it may not of been the over dose , it could of been a warm muggy night and the pond was already depleted of oxygen from its normal level , Never walk away from the pond even if you have somebody watching unless they know what to do, HP is the best at neutralising pp and adding o2 to the water BUT you don’t need to add it slowly in an emergency just get the whole dose in , even if it wasn’t enough to do the job fully it could of been enough so that it gave you more time to get the koi out , But a great alternative to HP is sodium thiosulphate, or dechlorinator, and you can not over dose with that and it’s cheap as chips to buy , So chin up and crack on Johnny boy 👍👍😎😎

I use PP every 4 days to clarify and oxidize water. PP is great for water if used correctly. It kills many organic microbes and things in the water. Therefore it also helps increase oxygen for Koi. I treat with a high amount of PP as well. I use dilution of 4ppm every 4 days, so that's 2oz or 56gram. Just make sure you know what you're doing. If you mix regularly, you would know how much is too much. I probably should get a 2nd scale just to be safe though. $20 for a scale can save thousands of dollars. I also have measurement scoops.
