Thanks for your help ! I actually struggle with occasional tendonitis issues in ankles knees and shoulders, so my first try at the plank was not really a honeymoon...

You're welcome and thanks for the comment! Unfortunately, people often give up on exercises, like a side plank, when it's uncomfortable. I'm glad you were able to utilize one of these strategies to make it more tolerable and reap the benefits of the exercise!

Thank you. I'm a senior with severe SI joint and shoulder issues, and I really needed to do some core exercises. The standard side plank on the floor was out, as it was extremely painful, but the modified standing ones helped me greatly.

That’s awesome! You’re welcome and thanks for sharing! These mods came from another patient who needed core exercises but had issues with some of the standard moves. Glad the mods help!

Thumbs up for that side lean, hanging side plank! Regular irritates my shoulder and this is a good substitute

But when you are bringing forward your legs for support, you won't be able to bring your hips forward, right? Doesn't that affect your form?
@Reachrehabchiro2 ай бұрын
It depends on where you place your foot and your hip mobility. But yes you should be able to bring your hips forward and bring forward your top leg for support. Play around with the positioning.

I had a labrum tear and never had surgery and ac joint arthritis, what can I do?
@Reachrehabchiro Жыл бұрын
Shoulder rehab. Just because you have a tear doesnt mean you absolutely need surgery - it depends. See a professional.

The side plank makes my back worse. Side plank is worthless
@Reachrehabchiro Жыл бұрын
The side plank can be a great exercise when done correctly. However, if you have an active low back condition it can exacerbate your symptoms. I wouldn’t blame the side plank, I’d get your back examined by a professional to find the right exercises to do based on how your symptoms.
@hammill444 Жыл бұрын
@@Reachrehabchiro I’ve already been examined- by several “professionals”. They were the ones who recommended the side plank. It’s the industry standard- it’s always recommended by every professional regardless of symptoms.

I have done the side plank for years (I'm 55). But lately the upper back, thoracic, hurts. At the right side of the spine, between the shoulder blades. Only when on the right elbow. Not the left elbow. Sometimes, you have to let an exercise go. Not sure where the cause is. Many years of barbell squatting, or what other exercise that might have caused it. Or even barbell and dumbbell pullovers. Those did give pressure in the thoracic discs also. Didn't squat or do pullovers for a few years already. It's always been a bit of a weak spot, spine right between the shoulder blades.
