The part where the kingfisher comes together. Finished (possibly?) the detailing of the Kingfisher itself, all that is now needed is the completion of the branch which will come in part 7. Larges brush needed for this stage is a No.4. Good luck to all those who are following and painting.

Absolutely superb David. I was fortunate enough to take hundreds of Kingfisher photos at a hide in Shropshire and have some beautiful photos, one of which I am about to paint. I wanted to see a tutorial to help me (I am a novice) and found this on google search. Absolutely stunning and so helpful. Thank you

Hi there, sorry for the late response - for some reason your comments ended up in my spam file ???? Hope its not too late to thank you for your comments. Great to hear you were able to photograph kingfishers - it sounds like a great day in Shropshire. Hope the videos have helped ... David

I have a new appreciation for detail watercolorists. So much patience and tenacity is needed. As a new painter, I've mainly been watching videos of loose watercolorists, and it's amazing to compare both methods of painting the same subject such as the kingfisher. Thanks for sharing this series.

Hi Barbara. So kind of you to comment, very glad you liked my series. Welcome to the world of painting. Tend to paint more loosely in landscape subjects but have always been drawn to bird painting detail using acrylics. Most of my students are painting in watercolour so I did this for them. Mainly you need a deep interest in the subject itself, this helps greatly with the patience and tenacity. Very good luck with your painting ... David

Very nice David. Hah! I see where your eye for detail with the modeling originated. Or, the other way round. Say, what's with this rumor you have a DVD featuring a Kestrel? My favorite small falcon.

Hi, the paintings came first, although I have done both since childhood. I do like detail, although I do less now in my paintings but like to make up for that with my modelling. I did make a DVD painting a Kestrel some years ago now for the SAA (Society for All Artists) here in the UK. I found the production times a pressure and had to compromise my painting to fit in with the studio and the commercial requirement. I was not happy to do another and was only partially satisfied with the result, it did not achieve the standard I would normally paint. However it is instructional and I have had only positive feedback from it. The subject is a male (European) Kestrel, not the American Kestrel (which I have been lucky enough to see in the US). If you are interested it can still be ordered via the SAA website, or contacting them direct - the link is as follows:- /www.artifolk.co.uk/painting-birds-with-david-hyde-the-kestrel-dvd-7049.html?gclid=CjwKCAjwscDpBRBnEiwAnQ0HQOqBWf9-N-b6x0Flmme26th3GmvPD0HCZzx2t2bMNpPQ_FE0ln-rHxoCHSUQAvD_BwE Many thanks for the comment ...
