Excellent video David, I'm in the process of building the Walthers T/T. I have it running ok, but the indexing is the problem. I presume yours is all done by eye?

I hope you will not be shocked if I say that I prefer the more convincing and realistic original condition, with its patina and all, than this thickly painted over 'restoration'.

Great job. Now it just needs a country house to go with it. And then you can show it from a distance, where the imperfections do not show.

This is superb I cannot stand the Hornby turntable it is so Bad, but this is so Much better, after watching someone having so much trouble it- I thought surely the best thing is have some ball bearings underneath and that's exactly what you have done with it, yours is just how it should be, thank you for sharing. ✔✔👍👍😃😃

Thank you very much David for your superb tuition on this. It's been a great inspiration to me and I`m determined to eventually get it "hopefully" somewhere near your standard, and I will do it ,even if takes me forever. Then if that happens I know I`m then worthy of being called an "Artist " rather than just a painter.

I had no idea how difficult this was going to be in practice and it brought me down to earth a bit . I am though determined to hopefully get it somewhere near as good as Davids in time. Persistence is everything. Thank you David, I`ll be ever grateful for your superb tuition

A fantastic layout. Great explanation of its story and position in the world. I myself have just started getting into operations on my layout. Having designed my layout for computer operation, with fiddle yards and stations, etc, it soon became a bit boring just to watch the computer control the trains, however , I did enjoy it at first, but wanted to run the layout with a much more hands on operation feel. So I am redesigning my layout to suit. Ive watched your videos many times, thank you for sharing they are a great help.

WHAT NO COMPREHENSION OF THE RULE BOOK !!! The problem with this particular method of operating freight trains is that it has overlooked the complex rules concerning freight wagons. Which includes dozens of rules dictating where each type of wagon can be positioned in any freight train !!!! Indeed the wagons themselves have many markings on them that give hints about the rules. Such as "XP". White lines, & even the colour of BR owned wagons. All of which explains much of the shunting that had to be carried out at EVERY goods yard, marshalling yard & freight Depot, primarily to ensure all the wagons where in the correct position in every freight train. i.e you were not allowed to have a tank wagon of inflammable liquid positioned next to a "Gunpowder" wagon. Further if you had a tank wagon of concentrated "Hydrocyanic acid" it had to be run as a seperate train with two barrier wagons either side of it, and even though "Fully Fitted" was restricted to 30mph. This is because just one molecule of that lethal product was explosive on contact with the atmosphere. So a 45ton wagon full would explode and destroy EVERYTHING within roughly a ONE MILE radius. So was even more dangerous than a Nuclear Flask wagon !!!! A FEW EXAMPLES XP = Express Passenger, a little contradictory, but it meant that this vehicle could be added to a passenger train if and when required, although that would limit the train speed to 60mph. So usually only seen on branch lines or with local trains. VERTICAL WHITE LINES on vehicle corners, indicated a "shock wagon". So not allowed to be hump shunted, and MUST be in the "Fitted Head", or in a "Fully Fitted" freight train. BR BROWN/RED OXIDE coloured vehicles had vacuum brakes & were to be positioned behind the loco, in the "Fitted Head" BR PALE GREY coloured wagons were "Unfitted" so had NO train brakes, only a hand brake. So had to be coupled BEHIND any Brown/Red Oxide coloured wagons. All these complex wagon rules were reflected in the various "Classes" of train indicated by the position of headlamps on the loco. These being classes 4 to 9. Where Class 4 was a fully fitted Express Freight, such as a Milk train or Perishables traffic. Class 9 was a totally "Unfitted" train limited to 30mph due to the fact only the loco & Brake van had operational train brakes ! Class 0 was for Light locos (which could also haul a max 2 Brake vans) !! About 1968 BR changed Class 4 to reflect the new 75mph air braked Freightliner trains.

I have a story to tell about this type of van in the mid fifties i worked for the family firm of plumbers we had one on hire to remove a lead lined storage tank which had burst in the attic of a tenement in bridgeton Glasgow when taking the van back to the hire yard it was early on a cold frosty morning i had not long passed my driving test and not really driven a van with a gearshift on the steering column and forgetting that it only had 3 forward gears i changed down to second gear prior to braking as i approached a t junction and due to the gear ratios and icy roads the van just spun right around ending up facing the way i had just come what a fright i got i then very carefully drove back and put it off hire

I haven't been around for a while David, but your new project should look pretty good; it was good to see it progressing. My ears picked up when you mentioned the word Signal. Sad new about Deresley.I can only imagine how it felt. But your collaboration with John sounds interesting. Over the past year or two, I built a few signal boxes, more for the pleasure than for a layout; having spent a few thousand hours working them haha. I also became a bit hooked with those card model kits of castles and other architecture . All the best with it,

Dinky toy original paint is quite a strong paint. I tried acetone but that had no effect, so i tried a modellers solution of Detol which works a treat. As for a metal primer i use a colourless Tamyia metal primer which you can colour a small bit, so if you scratch the paint work the primer colour doesn't show through it matches top coat.

Hello David, I've just finished watching your Goods Operations #01 and #02. Such fun and very informative. I've now got to try and do something similar with my developing layout. Perhaps first though I should try and get hold of Iain Rice's book that you recommend. 🙂

Your work on the Wearhering has made your Turntable, even more like the 'Weather Beaten and Sunburnt' Example, near me..! As the line runs along the Coast and is very Close to the Sea. It is very much a Case of 'Rust with just a Hint of Paint.!' The upshot being is your Model is even closer to our Example. Nice work Sir with some Great Detailing and Advice. Impressive..! Cheers to all, yet Again..! 😎

This is my next project. And looks like the Dapol kit, (Although not perfect) will supply the Detail I require. I am a Modeller from my youth, so if I can keep my Wobbles under control ( the Joys of Maturity, Yay..!) I should be able to finish the job, (hopefully before Death.) Building a Layout for and with my Boy, we should have fun..! Near to my home in Australia, there is a Turntable, that we would like to Copy. It runs a Heritage Steam train, that uses it in Times of need. Having taken the Boy on a Trip 2 or 3 Times on the Train, in his youth. It will be something to Amuse the Grandkids in the future. ? If we can keep them off the Gaming sites long enough. 🤯🤯 So thank you for the info. Your work looks just Fine and very simular to the real thing here in Oz. Once again Thanks for your efforts in Sharing your Skills. Cheers All, kim in Oz. 😎
