I love that you allow yourself to be vulnerable and do a video of something that you are not used to doing. It’s inspiring and it turned out lovely.

Your channel brought me back to watercolor painting, after having moved to acrylics and oils in the past. I like your work and it gives me a lot of ideas to paint loosely, which I wasn't able with acrylics or oils.

Same with me. Used to paint with watercolors years ago. This year I started with acrylics. I just tuned in to Lois and realized I missed the free-flowing you get with watercolors. And I enjoy so much watching the colors blend and move.

A lovely painting. The style is right up my street if you’ll excuse the pun. Many years ago I had a four day painting course with Ron Ranson and his style at the time was a great inspiration to me. Thanks for your excellent tutorials Keith

For someone who doesn't paint much in this genre, you have done a fantastic job. The street really looks wet and I love the way the light is reflected in the storefront window. I also like the colours you used here. You have ALMOST convinced me to try this! :D Thanks, Lois! :)

It happens to us all, but sometimes with a painting we have to push through 'the ugly stage' and can end up with a beautiful painting! Too many people give up at that stage, not realising how close they are to good results!

I really enjoyed this demo. I am not a fan of cityscapes. I do like this piece because it ignites a feeling or emotion which is the goal of real art. I love the simplicity of the color scheme as well as your loose instructional style. I am one who loves color so working with a simple color scheme forces me to be more creative with techniques. Very good instruction. Thank-you for sharing.

That is one of the darndest things I have ever seen. I love it! Love it and wish I could do it. But no...every time I try "loose" I end up with a tee total mess. I wish someone could show/teach me the secret to loose no mess painting.

Is the hake brush special for watercolour or it doesn’t matter?

I have a question - at 3.34 the right is mostly coloured then at 3.44 there is a white square - did you use tissue or something to clear the paint? I’d like to try this but unclear how much of the paper is wet when you start and when/which bits are drier....
@alexandrawestcott76543 жыл бұрын
Sorry to sound pedantic but I’m not good at wet on wet at the best of times! Lastly - thank you for not overlaying this with drippy music!!
@LoisDavidsonArt3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! This was a full tutorial for Patreon and an experiment in making things up as I went along. I just had a quick look and I think the white window area was created by pulling the whole side of a plastic store card horizontally through the wet paint, which pushed the paint to the sides and top and bottom, these then softened and diffused as the paint dried.
@alexandrawestcott76543 жыл бұрын
And I forgot to mention - I love this!

This is both interesting and beautiful, but your work usually fits into that rare category. You're too critical on yourself, the underpainting and details are just right from my perspective.
